I like how valve turned literally nothing into money.
I mean seriously, 1 hat is like 200 bytes of data, and they can sell some of them for ~20€ .
This is basicly money printing.
I don't understand how this is astonishing in anyway considering nearly every F2P MMORPG does the exact same thing with an "Item Shop."
No actually, The Ghastly Gibus would be the Euro, Ghastlier as silver, And Ghastlierest as Gold.
Okay. I don't really know about hats, but I thought the Ghastly Gibus was rare.
I think that's more based on the average sum that people usually pay for those items.
And who decided the average?
Who first payed it?
Which came first, the average or the spreadsheet?
Who polled several thousand people and mathematically determined that X buds was worth Y?
I can't bring myself to play Tf2 anymore.
No medieval mode update, community items which can only be unboxed or found (fat chance), and £7 weapons from that stupid as fuck company.
This is not the same Valve as the Valve that is giving away the free games and coupons in the Winter sale. This is shallow scum driving what used to be a thoughtful community where you were rewarded for playing for a long time with the best items; hats, into a shithole where the people with the most money or the best scamming skills get the best items. Getting a hat from a drop now is almost impossible thanks to the drop cap which is obviously only there to make more money out of people. Getting good items with keys is like winning roulette with one chip.
I joined a server yesterday and one team had 6-7 premium players by pure coincidence, and mine had 2 (including me). Of course, the moment the gates open there's crit stickies and coordinated fire blowing the F2P crap to pieces. And in the true spirit of the game, the scramble is rejected.
Theres no more real "free" updates thanks to the greed, there haven't been maps added for ages, and we haven't had any new game modes. The only thanks Valve gets from me is for making an enjoyable game pristine for years. Now its dead to me.
For the most part, I agree. TF2 being F2P means no 'free' updates anymore. I honestly should've seen that coming.
TF2 is evolving kind of like how real world currency did. There's the original goods (hats), the things you can trade for goods that are shiny (metal), and the things you can gamble or invest in the hope you get goods (keys). Unusuals are just the goal of the process.
I hate people complaining about how hats changed tf2 and that now the game is all about hats. It's still the same game at the core, but with cosmetic items.
Yeah I agree. Most of the time I can get in a server and everyone just plays the game without even mentioning hats.

Thats just one map, and what we should of got is an update for Medieval. Its nice they put the achievements in, but I can't help but wish for a little something more.
This is exactly why I stopped playing TF2. It went from a game to an economy in one update.
I don't care about the hats either but doesn't mean I have to stop playing it because some people care about hats.
I fucking love TF2. I have $70s worth of shit for a game I've never spent a penny on, and it's still fucking fun to play.
The fact that grr people have hats doesn't detract from that at all.

TF2 is like half a decade old, most games don't even release patches anymore after that long. The fact that Valve even still supports the game greatly, even up 'till now is amazing. Hell, they don't even need to release maps since the SDK is out, but they still anyway (albeit rarely; but still).
if you read http://theonlinesociety.com/2011/12/the-50-million-virtual-millinery/ again, he apparently re-did it and came out with $22 million which still isn't bad
Gabe Newell is the ultimate business man.
If my hats are worth steam games i'm reinstalling TF2
Yeah, here's just a few of the games I've gotten for hats and metal:
Binding of Isaac, Bastion, Limbo, Rock of Ages, Fable 3 + dlc, Deus Ex HR: Missing Link, GTA complete pack, Max Payne 1 and 2, Ghost Master, Titan Quest pack, and probably some more I can't think of now. The only ones on sale at the time were GTA and Fable 3, the rest were bought at full retail price.
Then I uninstalled tf2.
It's so depressing because I just never bought any of the so called super duper valuable hats, because I hate L4D so I didn't get bills hat, and sam and max didn't seem that interesting to me.
Result of me not buying games I dislike and spending 9000 hours on tf2 means I will never get the pyro hat I want (flaming brainslug) because valve are jerks and had to make everything require obsessive behaviour.

Not amazing anymore since they're making enough money off it for Gabe to build a diamond bridge to his palace on the moon.

Exactly! I hate that buds are worth so much these days, yet my Dealer's Visor is worth nothing.
