Ya, the response will probably be months. Either that or it will respond too quickly and be something like an automated message.
I hate to sound like a downer, but I feel like they not going to listen to the petitions at all.

See that was my initial reaction, but then I realized that the white house made the site and not some pro-pot site.
Doesn't mean they will listen, but they did make the site. Unless they made it just so Americans can FEEL like their voice is being heard, which wouldn't surprise me to say the least.
This seems like a good idea. Assuming they actually take the petitions seriously.
If a petition gets 5,000 signatures within 30 days, it will go into a queue for the Administration to review and respond. We will do our best to respond to petitions that meet this threshold in a timely manner, but it may take a few weeks to issue an official response. All responses will be posted in this section of the We the People platform, and if you signed a petition that we respond to, you'll get an email from the White House to with the response.
Looks like the marijuana petition must be responded to considering it gained 6k+ people in (5?) hours.

I know I suck at writing. I hope you guys agree anyway...
This is pretty cool. I hope the extraterrestrial one goes, so at least they can comment on it.
Pretty good timing considering how I started the school year recently and we talk a lot about democracy and American government in my government class.
Someone should make a petition to get rid of subsidies on corn.

Go here to put term limits on Senators and Congressmen!
The one to remove Under God from the pledge grew by 300 when I refreshed the page.
Holy shit, the Marijuana reform petition is now over 10,000 signatures.

Sign this one. And the pledge one too.
The Patriot Act served it's purpose in the immediate time after 9/11, and has not been used wrongly as of yet.
HOWEVER I do believe it's overstayed it's welcome and no longer needed; it's time to repeal it. Having something so volatile sitting around with the potential to be misused oh so easily isn't a very good thing.
The Patriot Act has been used mostly for drug crimes, not terrorism.
ban the possession, sale and distribution of shark fins.
This petition is for the ban of the possession, sale and distribution of shark fins nationwide. On July 1, 2011 Hawaii became the first state to ban the possession, sale and distribution of shark fins. Oregon and Washington soon followed with a similar bill in California awaiting signature from Gov. Jerry Brown. On January 4, 2011 President Barrack Obama signed the Shark Conservation Act. The bill was passed through Senate with unanimous consent. The bill prohibited the removal of fins at sea and sharks to be landed without their fins attached. As attempts to ban shark finning become more popular worldwide, the United States could set a huge example for the rest of the world. Populations of many shark species are data deficient and current conservation efforts are lacking.
Don't make this a joke.
Erm, I thought the marijuana petition had over 10k of votes, but now it's around 3 and a half?
Don't make this a joke.
It's not.
Is there a petition to immediately withdraw all US military personnel, combat or otherwise, from Iraq and Afghanistan?

This is just stupid. I can understand removing "One nation under God" from the pledge, but removing "In God We Trust" from our currency would take unneeded effort just because a few kiddies are butthurt over a sentence.

They're removing a sentence from currency. HOLY FUCK THAT WAS DIFFICULT.
They're removing a sentence from currency. HOLY FUCK THAT WAS DIFFICULT.
But they could be making much better petitions that don't waste people's time.
But they could be making much better petitions that don't waste people's time.
What's the goddamn point of a "WE THE PEOPLE" petition site if you're just going to belittle legitimate issues as a "waste of time"?

Because 4 words on a coin that has little or no value right now is a legitimate issue.
Because 4 words on a coin that has little or no value right now is a legitimate issue.
are you denying it's unconstitutional?
Because 4 words on a coin that has little or no value right now is a legitimate issue.
its the principle behind it :downs:
It wouldn't be that big of a thing to fix either. They make new coin designs all the time. You just have to make one without the sentence then slap it in the mint and you're good to go. All previous coins could remain in circulation just like the old bicentennial pennies.

they act as if they're going to call in all "In god we trust" coins for a million dollar remodeling.
It'll probably cost a few papers for reports and a new stamped design, which they do all the time anyways, and then bam, new coins.

also, love how the ones regarding marijuana/hemp are so hugely popular
people really want this stuff legalized.
