shit there's hardly evidence suggesting that gender roles go beyond social creations
nuh uh boy monkeys like toy trucks case closed
It got pretty vicious, I think I was called a misogynist a hundred times
I'm going to guess you said something about it being important for women to do "womanly" things like cooking and cleaning or something about feminine and masculine gender roles being important.

No, I was saying that there are biological differences between men and women, i.e. men tend to be stronger due to the presence of testosterone, this is a fact. And I said that our "gender roles" often tended to grow from these biological differences.
Yeah Zeke, Sanius, thisispain, the whole gang was there
Thinking gender roles are important is inherently misogynist because gender roles were created by men

"Men being stronger" means very little in modern society
*sigh* how tired I am of the word misogynist
Look Elecbullet, I don't think anyone's going out of their way to insult you here, but you keep backing into a corner and taking some kind of weird "no it's my opinion we can't discuss it and I won't allow it to be challenged" position.

And how was that relevant to the structure of a family?
Right now I'm just trying to avoid getting into it because from what I remember the last one was unpleasant. Can I enjoy my time on Facepunch or do I have to be sucked into a new massive argument every week, as seems to be the case.

Well you DID say that a conservative christian household is better than a liberal one in San Francisco
Saying that here is fighting words
Rather I said that I, personally, would prefer it.

If you don't want to have your views challenged (the prelude to an argument or debate), then simply don't ever post about them, but just know that it won't change anyone's opinion of your views.
The thing is i can make one single post in In The News, or Sensationalist Headlines, as it is now called, and things just spiral out of control from there.
Look at my first post in this thread.

Slavery had a disastrous impact on African-American families, yet sadly a child born into slavery in 1860 was more likely to be raised by his mother and father in a two-parent household than was an African-American baby born after the election of the USA's first African-American President.
Christ, people
Can someone note the decline of family values without it meaning explicitly that they believe things were better back then? She's not saying slaves were better off so stop agreeing with me
All I did was tell the OP he was being foolish with his thread title, which exaggerated what she was saying immensely to make her look much worse.
And things just spiralled away. Am I not allowed to make posts like that?

Of course you're allowed to make posts like that, but if you expect people to hold back their opinions or avoid starting any debates because they might offend your Facepunch experience, that's just unreasonable.

yeah but remember when i disputed that conclusion because the study didn't even make that conclusion
oh yeah that was great wasnt it

uhh
So I can't say anything. Stop forcing my opinion.
I'm not forcing jack shit. You came in here and defined some family values garbage as:
[del]The idea of a kiddy having a mommy and a daddy, which is alien-sounding I know[/del]
however that's not the point of THIS thread, so i will reduce that statement to
the idea of a kiddy having two parents, which is alien-sounding I know
What I am telling you is that if you genuinely don't want to get into an argument about it then just revise it to the third line and let it go. Instead you've been a passive-aggressive twat about it and invited an argument by way of continuing on about how it's not "safe" for you to talk about or too off-topic (it's not, irrational beliefs and the effects they have on political positions is directly relevant to the thread topic.) You genuinely want to avoid discussing it, then you don't leave us little hints inviting us to call you out on it, you shut the fuck up.
I'm trying to be nice here. You dropped a landmine and said "oh fuck I didn't want to talk about this landmine", I'm trying to tell you how to pick it up or keep that shit holstered.
Let's define left and right
Which sounds more like anarchism hmm?
Yes let's define schools of thought devoid of the concept of a state by similarity to schools of thought involving a state.
That's as logically fucked as the people who say atheists "hate God."
Can you really say that the Tea Party is far out of the political center of our society?
Yeah, actually, considering election results and surveys, they're at best a fifth of the country.
Will you not agree that it's generally better for a kid for his parents to not divorce? Therefore, it's not a good thing that divorce levels have gone up.
No. Having seen several and coming from one, I'd argue there's nothing wrong with them- they teach you that people make mistakes, that not all relationships are the eternal bullshit stories tell you they are, that "family" is properly defined by who you personally place value on rather than who you're tied to by blood, sperm, and scars...innumerable lesssons were pulled from the one I was in alone, and without it I wouldn't have a father that cared about me or a brother at all. And while that's clearly anecdotal and not a solid argument, neither is any defense of the concept that divorces are objectively bad beyond that they can make some kids get clingy or emotionally frustrated. Some people also get that way their first time dating, it doesn't mean you should be opposed to it. Coming to terms with how you feel about things and moving on is an invaluable life skill, and if anything the problem is with social stigmas against divorce rather than with divorce itself.
However, in general, it's not a good thing.
What happened to you not being an expert on this nor having any objective information on the subject?
And just because this unfortunately did turn into the rip on elec hour, I gotta ask- Why do you have any love for this "ideal family" you speak of? Can you present a rational argument in support of it? Have you ever criticized the concept yourself? I don't think anybody here wants to go "bwahahahaha your beliefs are shit go die", I just want to know why you hold fast to something you clearly can't defend and haven't thought through fully.
You gotta be skeptical of the things you like irrationally, bro.
On another non-shitstorm note:
Bachmann also wants to outlaw porn.

great
great
I'm going to assume that was sarcasm.

all right look
When I posted that a kid should have a mommy and a daddy, I did not mean to offend those of us who thought that male-male households or female-female households were completely valid. It did not even cross my mind. That, however, is how people interpreted my post.
So i edited it to reduce it to the latter statement because I don't want to make any claim about the validity of LGB parents, which I cannot back up. I am legitimately sorry for posting that.

I think I can see porn, and I can respect that, but you can't even touch it because it's impossible to outlaw.
All the horny lonely angsty teens would rage.

Looks so.

yeah, I'm not excluded from porn-watching. For better or for worse.

What do you think of polygamist households
"It takes a village to raise a child", right? Surely lots of parents could do even better than two.
What do you think of polygamist households

Again I won't make any claim on either side because I'm just not sure. May I do that?
I don't get the "demonisation" of single parents, I never had a father growing up (for some pretty damn good reasons), and I turned out fine.
Why do people do this? They always point out the exceptions which do not invalidate the general rules.
I remember when I said "Men are generally stronger than women" and JohnnyMo said he knew a few women who could beat the shit out of him. Great. Exceptions.
I'm a black kid in the 1860s and I can assure you guys I have a strong family. My mother and father will be together forever or until Master sells my daddy to a neighboring plantation.
Wait, what am I doing writing? It's illegal for me to have been taught to read. And Master doesn't give me any free time. Sorry guys I have to go. I have to get up early for 12 hours of backbreaking hard labor with the only thing to look forward to is being able to dream when I sleep.
But it's okay because I was born into a stable household, or is it the household stable because Master wouldn't allow my mother to soil his fresh linens? At least I can work beside both my mother and my father for the time being. I wouldn't want to have human rights in the 21st century as long as I have them! (for two more weeks)
But it's OK because you're missing the point of what Bachmann said, blinded by staticman's stupid Sensationalist Headline.

I'm wondering if your dislike of exceptions to anything is related to your ideal family concept being that every single person is the same in every way.

I don't think it is a rule that single parents are bad, it's repeated a lot, but mainly by people banging the "family values" drum.
