Can you bend over just a little bit further backwards to defend him? Provoked? What a fucking joke. In no universe is physically assaulting and bullying someone into consenting to a search proper police conduct.
Cop wants to do a search. They have two options: A. Get a warrant, or B: Don't do the search. Period. There is no option C: Abuse the person until they consent. It is indefensible in any context.
Cops are still people mate.
You just have to bash the professional exterior, or find a more emotional cop and make him lose his temperament, and BAM! You've got a shitty one sided youtube video with 100,000 views that idiots will bellow about on tumblr, while the poor cop has to deal with shit because he lost his temper, or got provoked because of some assholes wanting "evidence".
I'm not saying there aren't asshole cops existing, I'm saying it's very very very fucking easy to make Law Enforcement look like monsters that jackoff to the tears of innocent people.

Losing your temper is no excuse for assaulting a citizen and violating constitutional rights. This man should never be allowed to serve as a public servant ever again

The actual options:
1. Consent
2. P.C.
3. Warrant
4. Court Order

There is absolutely no evidence whatsoever that he did anything to provoke the officer, and even if he did, that behavior still isn't okay!
God, the bias in favor of law enforcement around here is so strong that people automatically react by assuming there MUST be something before the video that justifies everything and makes everything the cops do a-okay because obviously no cop would ever behave like that without a good reason.

But whose fault is it really?
The Cop himself, or the assholes provoking his temper?
Because yeah the Cop would be in trouble, but what about the ones trying to get a "cop video", out of him?
Maybe the cop wouldn't have lost his temper if folks wouldn't have just been looking for a one sided opinion.
Maybe we should ask IF the "victim's" were provoking the man behind the badge first before having a conclusion.

I'm sure it's very easy to provoke him, then hit the record button during a crucial point in the argument that led to the incident.

I'll say it again because you obviously aren't reading well today.
There is currently no evidence he was provoked.
But we don't even know if the asshole who recorded the video could have provoked the cop enough to get a reaction to record, then write a bullshit story or not. We can't just watch a vid and go "OHHHH FUCK YEAH, I HATE COPS NOW, LET'S JUST FIRE 'EM ALL, FUCK DUE PROCESS AND THE VERY JUSTICE SYSTEM WE HAVE THAT MAKES US A CIVILIZED FIRST WORLD COUNTRY!".
Sastin's quote was , " In 1996, Shawn Glans - the cop in this very video - was driving 3 times over the speed limit, crashed into oncoming traffic and left a guy blind and paralyzed with permanent brain damage."
The actual quote was
"Friday’s incident is not Glans’ first brush with controversy. On March 28, 1996, while patrolling on Smith Bridge Road in the town of Wilton at about 10 p.m., Glans lost control of his cruiser /b][and crashed head-on into a vehicle driven by 45-year-old Douglas McEachron, leaving the father of six paralyzed. Glans was traveling at least double or possibly three times the speed limit of 20 mph when he crossed into the westbound lane and hit McEachron’s 1989 Chevrolet, according to court records."
Quite a difference of quotes there, unless Sastin only edited that quote to make the guy look like some speedster monster out to cripple someone and then jack off to the guy's screams of agony.
quotes essentially say the same thing: he made a mistake and permanently disabled a man. i was understanding of your whole defending of him, but the fact that you're reaching this hard is really inappropriate. i don't care if the cop's "a human", while you're on the job you're a COP. if he can't put aside his emotions or insecurities while on the job, then he deserves to lose his job.

Why are you trying to justify assault? Especially when it was a person of higher authority and responsibility, who knows better.
For God's sake, unless the "context" was anything other than the civilian physically assaulting the officer beforehand then this is unacceptable. If that was the case I can promise his reaction would not have been what we saw in the video. There is no justifying this.
And Starlight, please tell me how slapping a civilian in the face and then proceeding to verbally insult and threaten them and others around them is ok just because they wouldn't submit to a search. I would love to hear your opinion, since you must find this behavior appropriate and acceptable.

I am being hard, my apologies. But these threads quickly run down into "yeah fuck cops m8" territory.
And someone's gotta be a strong opposition, because to circle jerk the idea of "cops are assholes" just fuels bad mojo.

I see your point, the assholes who go out and look for bad cop reactions by being borderline-illegal and just plain rude are a problem. However, not everybody who is the victim of video recorded police abuse went out looking to be abused for fame. We have rights that are supposed to be absolute and when things like this happen, people feel like their rights are being seriously violated. Perhaps blame might fall on both sides, but still, there's no denying that there is a problem that needs to be acknowledged and addressed.

Just curious, but what's "P.C."?
Just curious, but what's "P.C."?
Probable cause.
It basically means that the police have reasonable grounds to obtain a warrant, or do not even need one, under the stance that they have the evidence or have witnessed enough suspicious/criminal activity that beyond a reasonable doubt grants them the right to make an arrest/perform a search or like I said, obtain an arrest/search warrant.

i work in a school and i don't accept 'oh but he provoked me!' from the 12 year olds when they hit each other, why should anyone accept it from professional adults, especially when they're police officers?
