why couldn't it be rush limbaugh or glenn beck's family instead
Yeah, why couldn't it be someone innocent's family, I know. Why not just put all the republicans in a camp and gas them or something.
Quite frankly, I know this is a forum and all, how its desensitized our views of death... But am I one of the few who thinks its a damn tragedy that this man killed his wife, two children, AND himself REGARDLESS of political affiliation?
It's not really a question of his political affiliation. From the article you can suppose he was a conservative but it doesn't matter. He was obviously paranoid.
The problem is his latent paranoia couldn't have been helped by the (mostly) right-wing media in America painting a post-apocolyptic vision of Obama winning the presidency. I have a friend myself who thinks Obama will literally destroy America, and the only source of his news and commentary is conservative sources. This is why they need to dial down the rhetoric just a little bit. The article is right in that it's hard to blame specific people or outlets, just the entire message needs to be taken down a notch.
Misleading title, and the writer of the article is pretty dumb to say this and the Gabrielle Giffords shooting had political roots.
The Giffords shooting was political. The man attempted to kill her because he thought she was incompetent as a Congresswoman.
Yeah, why couldn't it be someone innocent's family, I know. Why not just put all the republicans in a camp and gas them or something.
Someone actually suggested that in the Mass Debate section.

Seems like a decent enough suggestion.

I don't think you understand the meaning of what I said by, "Regardless of political affiliation". People here on Facepunch are strange, and by strange I mean if you would've replaced the key words in the article that suggest he is conservative with words that would rather imply he's liberal. People would've given far more dumbs to whomever made a joke. But since this isn't the case, and the article DOES suggest that he is a conservative, all of a fucking sudden it makes it ok to start making jokes about people who don't follow the same view point as others should go kill themselves, and their families. Now I can firmly say that if you DO think that gassing/or if you DO suggest that the conservatives around the world should kill themselves- you are absolutely no better. If you believe that the gassing of others is a, "worthy" discussion then you need help.

suggestion as in all conservatives and those who don't follow your political ideology should be gassed? I seriously hope you don't think that is anywhere near a, "decent" suggestion.
I mean seriously, "CONSERVATIVE KILLS HIMSELF AND HIS FAMILY"
>LETS MAKE JOKES
"LIBERAL KILLS HIMSELF AND HIS FAMILY
>Somebody makes a joke, "wow you have no taste" etc
You are getting my two posts mixed up. The "gassing Republicans" thing was obviously a joke; no one in their right minds thinks thats anywhere near reasonable.
But I never made a joke about the dudes family. It's sad as hell.
I will never understand how anyone can find humor in the murder/suicide of an entire family.

Laughter is the best medicine. I guess unless your dead. In which case medicine isn't very helpful to begin with.
nevermind

And should we also tone violence in video games down a bit so that people suffering from mental illness don't go out and kill people? Oh, movies! Movies need to be toned down too! And television? Too many murder simulators on TV nowadays! Let's just continue ignoring America's failing mental health system and desperately shift the blame to things that have NOTHING to do with the real problems!
I think the majority of people in this thread need to actually read the article before posting. If you had, you would know that this man had a history of paranoia and mental illness.

I clearly said the main problem was his paranoia. Like, in the post, that you replied to. Then I said that the tone of news media isn't helping matters. Implying it's a secondary, even tertiary issue. I'll quote it again for you.

You're a jackass who disgusts me. Instead of mindlessly denouncing people you've never met, why don't you bother to actually learn something from this?

At least someone in this place has some damn common sense. Facepunch is horrible with it's double-standard bullshit, to the point where it just comes off as fucked up half the time.

the sad thing is the majority of people in this thread did read the article, and care more about wishing it was Rush Limbaugh instead or blaming everything on Republicans more than the reality of the situation.

I blame most of fox news, rush limbaugh, glenn beck, whoever heads the the NRA, most of the republican nominees, a smattering of the members of congress, rupert murdoch, roger ailes, dinesh d'souza and the stupid tea partiers. I blame them not because they are republicans, but due to my observation of their actions, they are either willfully dense or terrible fucking human beings.

ugh not at all.
it's an expression of how unfair it is that someone should lose their lives over dogma preached by idiots who don't know the impact or severity of what they are saying (rush limbaugh and glenn beck)
Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck thrive on paranoia, and they exacerbate it and feed it more and more, to the point of people becoming convinced that their paranoid thoughts are real and not delusions.

In all seriousness, this is a terrible fucking thing. I'd like to hope this should shine a spot light on the holes of our system of mental health care, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was swept under the rug through politicization.
If I were Romney, I'd be pretty insulted right now. I mean, that's not exactly showing a lot of faith in his campaign.
Sorry mate but your observations aren't worth jack.
why not
why not
Taking a good few steps back and look at what you are basing your opinion on.
Taking a good few steps back and look at what you are basing your opinion on.
Can you tell me why my opinions mean shit instead of stringing me by the nose?
I was hoping beyond hope that this was just an Onion post.
This is disgusting, and these people are insane. Putting politics aside for a moment, this is no damn way to handle a situation like this. It's called expatriation, folks. If you're really that terrified, you go somewhere else (if you can). You don't gun down your family.
It'd be hard to find somewhere as conservative as the US that isn't a shithole, there isn't really anywhere for him to run.

I think you're cherry-picking specific examples to create a reality in which you're more persecuted than you might actually be
