Without any semblance of modern plumbing. B.Germany used conventional bombs, not bombs designed to create raging hell storms of fire. On the Flipside Japan had a very very traditional culture that saw surrender as not an option, and so they did commit that horrible display of human brutality called Bataan Death March. Germany committed the holocaust. There's not need to dig into how that was a very very very very fucked up moment of human history.

Or since we were fighting Germans and Japanese, find me a US internment camp that was exterminating Japanese citizens in the US.

Thats basic room clearing tactics we still use today, and it was used widely in Stalingrad where there was almost always an enemy just down the block or around the corner. The US and Soviets wouldn't raid a orphanage full of children by grenading it first, they would typically make sure there were actually hostiles in it.

I see all games making every german soldier a creature of death and doom - not even a single game that shows that they are human as well. If you want to keep equal fight, as in baddies versus baddies, go with russians versus germans. We have well-known war criminals on both sides, so no one is going to be annoyed by the fact that germans kill russians and russians kill germans. Horay!

But the Hordes of Soccer moms across the US wouldn't be as okay with that.

Ignorance about WWII, where the "most important" fact is that germans are crying tears and us is dominate, doesn't help.

Reason why you don't get to play as a German in WWII shooters is that you play not as defending, "noble" side, but as the one who is oppressing and started the war. It would not create the same feelings in player, basically.

I have personally found that games like Men of War and other eastern games don't go to such ridiculous lengths to demonize the germans even though Nazi Germany had committed large-scale atrocities toward the people living in the Soviet Union and U.S remained untouched by Germany.
