A middle eastern country won, big deal. There obviously has to be something strange about this, damn inferior sandniggers!
There is no point, nothing will be changed.
They won because they had money to throw. :colbert:
If what you're saying is true 25 is enough for a snall nation. Though I've yet to see sources as Wiki says you just can't get drunk in public
25 is not much, and from what I gather now, I've guessed a number too high. I mostly live in a city with just a bit over the population of Qatar, and I can tell you there are waaaay more places than 25. Waaaaay more.
You entrust to my faith in Wikipedia, anyway...
The laws of Qatar tolerate alcohol to a certain extent. However, the few bars and nightclubs in Qatar operate only in expensive hotels and clubs, with Qatar Distribution Company[33] the only importer and retailer for alcohol in Qatar.

Qatar hosted the asian games in 2006
And? The United States hosted a successful World Cup not too long ago.
Qatar hosted the asian games in 2006
Asian Games =/= World Cup
It's the world fucking cup bro.
Hassan Abdulla al Thawadi, chief executive of the Qatar 2022 World Cup bid, said the Muslim state would also permit alcohol consumption during the world’s most watched sporting event. Specific fan-zones will be set up during the event, they will provide alcohol for sale.[15][16]
Hahaha sorry guys
[editline]3rd December 2010[/editline]
Looks like you'll have to find something else to bitch about
It's still going to suck in terms of doing fun stuff outside the matches.
You'll probably have to take a side trip to Abu Dhabi or Dubai for that.

That's going to do wonders for the culture. Even if they do that, it wouldn't be enough.
It's only one of many things.
There's the human rights issues... what about the high average temperature during the World Cup (don't say they will aircon the stadium, they won't be able to do it)... what about their football team, which has never qualified?
So many other issues.
Looks like you'll have to find something else to bitch about
It's got nothing to do with bitching, but all to do with corruption. There is no way FIFA could overlook all the problems, without a little help from a thing called money. They've shown that they've taken bribes in the past, so it wouldn't surprise me in the least that they got it again this time.
im just glad australia didn't win the bid.
That's going to do wonders for the culture. Even if they do that, it wouldn't be enough.
Of course, nothing will be enough for you unless Australia won.
There's the human rights issues...
That's not a threat to the games. Again, you keep forgetting that Saudi is not the Middle East.
what about the high average temperature during the World Cup (don't say they will aircon the stadium, they won't be able to do it)...
Special climate-controlled stadiums.
what about their football team, which has never qualified?
Who cares
Qatar in 2022 just yells corruption. For a country with 1.6 million people, a tiny football community, 110+ national FIFA ranking, never qualified for a WC, 40+C average days during the required June / July hosting, 1 current stadium etc...
Australia or the United States should've been hosting 2022, not Qatar.
Qatar hosting 2022 is the evidence people needed to prove that there are constant backroom deals going on in FIFA. What a joke Sepp Blatter is.
[editline]3rd December 2010[/editline]
I can't believe FIFA would even consider a country where homosexuality is illegal, drinking is heavily restricted... the list could go on.
It's Qatar, not Saudi Arabia. They won't throw you in jail because you have a bottle of whiskey in your hand in the street (unless you're drunk or whatever). You're probably also forgetting about the Qatar Foundation, which forms great scientists and helps preserving the cultural patrimony of the world. Their engineers are among the best in the world. Qatar is an open-minded country
But that's OK, everybody can be ignorant.
[editline]e[/editline]
And before you start spouting bullshit again, I've been in Qatar for a month, and some people I know have been living there for 8 years now. They're more reliable than whatever you could find on Wikipedia.
Oh Putin, you so funny... :allears:
They're more reliable than whatever you could find on Wikipedia.
Well he only used Wikipedia as a source for alcohol, but I later showed him that the FIFA World Cup will permit and even sell alcohol in the stadiums.
I second that.
North Korea: Future host country of the Olympics and WW3.
Does no one else think it's odd that two countries with incredibly high mineral wealth, but with very low individual wealth and freedom of speech won?
Does no one else think it's odd that two countries with incredibly high mineral wealth, but with very low individual wealth and freedom of speech won?
No, because FIFA were involved.
Hey, before you go read at livinginqatar again, I've actually fucking lived there. You get alcohol at most hotels and some restaurants. Stop fucking around talking about shit you've read about on the internet.
I guess if you read what I've written I said that. And having only two different places, licensed restraunts and hotels, isn't many places at all.
I guess if you read what I've written I said that. And having only two different places, licensed restraunts and hotels, isn't many places at all.
Not like they won't build any more to accommodate the traveling people the World Cup in the next 12 years. No sir-ree.
They take it into consideration, really.
So many butthurt football fanatics in this thread.
Ah, a corrupt organization in a corrupt country.
I'm glad FIFA didn't decide to host the contest in the Netherlands and Belgium, or we would have to deal with higher taxes, vandalism and all kinds of other problems.
