even worse was in 1996, where their vehicles would catch on fire while parked.
Yeah in the 90's my whole family refused to buy Fords and we all drove GM
Now we all drive Fords and my mother has a rice burner :v: Ford has improved immensely since then
What, does the steering literally lock up?
Or do you just lose power steering?
Because if it's the former holy shit
Steering lock probably engages when the ignition switch fails because it thinks the key has been turned to the OFF position.
If the engine just stalled, the power steering and brakes would stop working, but you could just manhandle the wheel and pedals.

With my very limited understanding of A) cars and B) this recall I'd say it sounds like the steering lock is kicking in like you have turned the key right back to the start.
Which if it is that, it sounds fucking terrifying.

Yeah, that really shouldn't happen at all. Power steering loss is no big deal (moving actually makes steering easier) but locking is pretty bad.
I have yet to see an average consumer consider these options.
Corvettes and 911s are pretty common around here. :v:
But don't ignore GM's other cars. The Volt offers most of the benefits of an all-electric with the range of a conventional ICE car. The Impala is pretty much unmatched (for its price) when it comes to comfort (Car And Driver).
I personally wouldn't touch GM's cheapo cars because they're generally half-assed and built by the infamous Daewoo car company, but their new big cars and performance vehicles are excellent - though how they will hold up in a few years is the big question.
My car is on the recall list, but strangely this has never happened to me.
Yay?
