Because any credible astrophysicist would tell you how interstellar travel is practically impossible, and unless some bloody fundamental things that we've already got hammered down well change dramatically, then interstellar travel simply won't exist. Ever.
haha I agree yo ;D
but yeah.. Anything can be out there.
also this is not mass effect.
About FTL = impossible, cause it's a law of the universe.
The thing about laws is, that it only applies if you're caught breaking it.
I'll just leave it here ';..;'
The laws we use aren't necessarily true, sure they're the best thing we have but we could still be wrong. Besides, just because we can't distort laws of physics doesn't mean it isn't possible.
That said I don't think Alien life forms would have been that developed to get to us, otherwise they would have probably seized our planet as a second home due to it's conditions.
in a universe this big there is other intelligent life.
but there is some question in why they should even give a fuck about us.
The same reason we give a fuck about them.
I don't understand how people can bring science into these kind of things.
The Science people talk about is "our" Science, that does not make it right, sure it looks like it works, but it LOOKS like it to US.
Unless god himself comes down from the sky and says "gravity is real and works just as you think" then we won't ever know because what we "think" is the truth is only our human view on it. Gravity appears to work yes, but to how we, as humans, see it working. For all we know Gravity may be a living entity, and our human minds can't comprehend things that are this advanced.
There is every reason aliens can exist and can visit earth, taking into account the above, our "laws" of the universe may be completely false and aliens can indeed travel from one point to another in an instant.
Not to say I think they visit us everyday or even have, and that's not to say they would even be smart enough to do anything like this. However thinking we are the sole life in the universe is just close mindedness to a level of extreme I can barely comprehend.
And then trying to back it up with science, human science no less, just makes me think that if aliens haven't visited us it's because as a species they see us as such a fucking waste of space and there time it makes me feel bad to even be a part of it.
Personally, I think people bring science into everything because that's what we as humans have (for the most part) come to accept as reality, and to have something defy what we see as reality scares them as they no longer have a view on what real is, and, in our human instinct, to know and want to learn we can't stand to have our view on what's real shattered so wholly that we throw anything into the mix just so we can avoid this.
The belief that Aliens have visited Earth stems from the incorrect belief that aliens would actually give a damn about us, or better yet have any reason to visit our relative shithole of a backwater planet.
they might be interested in us the same as we're interested in them, any way, i personally (a bidding 14 year old scientist whose watched too much horizon (a British science TV program)) think that space is smaller than we think, just repeating its self from the past although its still pretty big(because dimensions are looped) so either there isn't as much space for alien to evolve or it isn't as hard as we think for them to get to us.
also whats wrong with aliens not to evolve on a planet, just some sort of space insect (how that'll work is up to your imagination)

Thanks for the input, generic New Age hippie.
Because even though the whole point of science is that it is the epitome of human objectivity, you're going to pretend it's subjective.

You forgot that part.
:siren:THE POST TO END ALL FTL POSTS:siren:
The aliens, if they have a spacefaring civilization, don't travel ''faster than light'', yet if they are advanced enough, they probably are able to cover large distances instantenously through space-folding using things like artificial wormholes.
The idea of FTL is quite impractical, and if it is possible, it would also be immensely dangerous to travel at such speed and a lot of energy would be put to waste.
Also, king of page 8 :v: :downs:
Everyone saying that going near the speed of light would crush humans, think for a second.
It's not speed that kills you, it's the CHANGE in speed. As long as you accelerate slowly, you won't die.
a small civilisation like ours can in no way think they have found the "laws of the universe".
a little planetlocked civlisation like ours? arrogant
we have a long way to go
But we have formulas that have worked pretty good for us right now. I don't think we should look down on the human civilization either. We have after all managed to come pretty far, just think about it.
10000 years ago we were just cavemen not even knowing what fire was, now we sit here in front of the computers chatting with someone in a completely different place.
You forgot that part.
You missed the entire point.
The whole fucking purpose of science is to answer questions. Scientists accept and acknowledge the possibility of scientific revolution, but IN THE MEAN TIME they don't fuck about with unfounded drivel and conjectural bullshit like what keeps coming out of your head like some sort of mental bowel movement.

this guy is correct
remember this is aliens we are dealing with, aliens, are not humans, they may be completely different. not simply thinking different or looking different, but being completely alien to us, it is like trying to imagine different colours that we cannot see (an odd thing to say, i agree). don't compare aliens to humans, well, i might be wrong, they might be only slightly different, with the same thoughts, the idea of emotions, a brain, etc, but the alien should not be regarded like a human at all and people forget this.
Just because they're aliens doesn't mean they're magic. They follow the same laws of science that we do, and likely have at least similar forms of life on the basic level (cells).

Of course.
Also, for the record, those "Grays", the typical alien stereotype(big head, small body), is a FUCKING STUPID idea. I don't even wanna think about evolution would cause a fuck up as bad as a vertebrate like that. I see aliens as more Human-like, with obvious differentiations to suit their enviornment.
Oh, and I think I would just laugh if aliens truly did use "flying saucer" designs. It's an impractical design, and, once again, FUCKING STUPID.
This would be awesome if real.
Of course.

Well it all depends. You're thinking of their evolutionary traits as applied to our environment. Maybe they developed on a low light, low gravity planet and as such are very pale and not traditionally shaped.
I also doubt that anything that's not from earth will look anything like a human or have human characteristics.
Providing aliens are real of course.
Of course.

Well, I think the concept of "grays" generally is that they may be smaller and weaker, but they're incredibly intelligent. I'm not saying they exist, I'm just saying that there's not really any logic in saying it's a stupid idea when no one really notes the specifics of their biology (because they don't exist).

Yeah. And, like, what if fish are actually made of water, and water is made of fish?
And the moon is actually a sponge, put there to keep us from finding out the truth?
And like...hands. They can touch anything...except themselves.
this guy is correct
No he isn't, and you should be ashamed for thinking he is.
I can't believe this. I'm actually wishing NoDachi would come back, if only to troll, and I hate him. You guys are that off-kilter.
I love it how we like to think us Human Beings are so special as to illicit intense attention from Space-Faring Civilizations.
Look, if they gave a damn about us, they would've done something, if they want our planet for its resources/slaves, they would've done something. The fact that nothing has happened either means aliens haven't visited us, or that they saw us as just a simple Backwater Planet.
I don't give a shit if aliens are coming down here. If they are, they can hang with us
And we're the only prolonged chemical reactions in the ENTIRE UNIVERSE.

Why not?
A horseless carriage? Preposterous!
A horseless carriage? Preposterous!
Hear, Hear, good man! I also hear of these strange boxes that can capture the very essence of a person, then paint that image onto a piece of paper with unnerving accuracy!
A horseless carriage? Preposterous!
As far as I know there were no credible scientists who ever claimed things such as cars were impossible.
Cars do not defy the laws of physics and they never have.
Good Lord! The very essence of the human soul being captured? Harken, I hear strange rumors of light being created without aid of flint nor tender. Blasphemers all of them these men of science!

Nuclear Fission was theoretically possible in the 1920's, but any respectable scientist back than who proposed it would actually work were usually laughed out of the Institute.
