All new upcoming CPUs to officially support only Windows 10

I still don't see the problem here, you can stay on your old system with you hardware you have now. Do you expect companies to support the OS you use forever? Of course they are going to drop support for them at a point.
does linux work?
I can't see why not.
This article has been on the radar since Januarary, it's only back up again due to recent mentions of the processor working until support dates are hit
So whats the issue with new hardware only supporting Win10 again? Oh right, people who dont want Win10 are crying foul.
There's no issue with it and I don't see anyone here taking issue with it. People are just (rightfully) complaining about Windows 10 because it's somewhat related to the topic. Of course no one expects them to support legacy OSes forever.
Why is it so hard to accept that Windows 10 just does not work for some power users? Your OS is just a tool, and if the tool doesn't work for you, then don't use it. It's simple as that. They're not ~pampered babies~, they have needs that aren't being met by poor design choices and Windows 7 or 8 works better for them.

There's nothing in Windows 7 that I don't have control over now that I did before......
My home computer is W10 and I am a power user able to make use of that OS.
I'm not a unicorn. It's not impossible.

I've already explained why Windows 10 does not work for me above. Many others take similar issues with it. I did not say it was a universal constant; if Win10 works for you, then you are more than free to use it. Acting like your situation applies to everybody is naïve at best.

How about making your own decisions about updates, for one.
8 works better for them.
Honestly if I actually see someone like this I will question everything and applaud with them actually getting used to that pile of shit.
I used it for it's entire shelf-life, and while it was interesting to use, new features were handy, once you try something else (/better), it's easy to see it for what it really was. A poorly designed/solution to bridging the gap between the devices we use the most (pc and phone).
MacOS has something similiar, they have their launcher screen (haven't used it, just use search), and a well established app store for the PC, notification centre and all that jam, and it all works very well with a nice design/UI.
Our mistakes now still make me excited for what they are planning to do in the future

would laugh if they were just using enterprise like everyone on /g/ says to use

I could see someone with a tablet PC or touchscreen laptop sticking with 8 :v: it's not awful in that regard. Plus, some people kinda had to due to driver issues.

I dunno, I say the Windows Update portion of W10 is garbage compared to 7. It's really the only thing I hate.
I've had to turn on deferred updates because the Anniversary update breaks some of my stuff. If this was Windows 7 I could have just unchecked and hidden it and let everything else install.

I haven't had an unscheduled update yet. In a year.
But sure

I'm not saying it does? You were saying it hampers power users. It doesn't.
If you're a power user then W10 should offer just as much control as any other windows. You just need to use the "power" part of power user to access options this time.
i mean if you can barely tell, then I don't get why it's a bad change
Because why bother upgrading something that's by all means is fine and not really outdated?
Win10 isn't terrible, but there isn't anything upgrade worthy about it while there are some questionable design choices and inconveniences. The sheer fact of it being jammed down our throats is reason enough not to upgrade, to be perfectly honest.
The sheer fact of it being jammed down our throats is reason enough not to upgrade, to be perfectly honest.
Yeah how dare MS try to keep everyone up to date instead of having another XP era where half the world is using an outdated OS claiming it's perfectly fine.
Irony of people who refused to update are actually intolerable pampered babies who think the world should revolve around them and stall technology.
Wow, we've reached the "you're a baby! no you are a baby!" level of argument. Lovely.
I'm not saying it does? You were saying it hampers power users. It doesn't.
If you're literally just going to tell me "your experiences and other's like yours are invalid and I'm right" with no reasoning for it, then there's not much of a point to further argument.
Yeah how dare MS try to keep everyone up to date instead of having another XP era where half the world is using an outdated OS claiming it's perfectly fine.
There's a very clear difference between trying to keep people up to date and shoving things down their throats with brute force.
Perhaps Microsoft should look at why people don't upgrade, and fix that issue? Using brute force like they do now is just straight up lazy, and honestly a really unprofessional way to handle business matters, which is really surprising coming from such a huge company as Microsoft.
Instead of finding and examining the issue, and changing their behavior and business practices accordingly, they just try to brute force their flawed business practices into effectiveness.
Irony of people who refused to update are actually intolerable pampered babies who think the world should revolve around them and stall technology.
I refused to update because I'm happy with what I have. My PC works fine and to me, there's no reason to upgrade. People mention "under the hood" upgrades, without specifying what they do. I don't care about performance gains, my PC runs fine as it is. A few people not wanting to upgrade to a new operating system because they are comfortable isn't stalling technology. We aren't punishing everyone else by not upgrading. We aren't intolerable pampered babies, we're just content with what we have. I don't think the world should revolve around me, I don't expect people to drop what they are doing and assist me with windows 7 or whatever.

so you can invalidate my experiences but i can't even make a comment on my own?
nice.
Windows 10 is not a tablet UI. Windows 8.1 removed most of the problems, and Windows 10 made the UI actually an improvement.
The upgrade process is trash, though. Like others, it fucked up my computer so badly that I needed a fresh install.
Holy fucking yes. I just had to do a total reinstall because my laptop (originally 8, then upgraded to 8.1, and then to 10) started getting weekly blue screens after installing 8.1 and then by 10 everything just started going bananas. The biggest thing was that after a little while of 10, anything that did full screen (like, tf2 style full screen. Not the full windowed stuff which is farrr better) caused the screen to go black with nothing but the mouse on close. After around 10 minutes, the computer restarted and went to the login screen but had a 2 by 2 inch square of white noise (with rainbow colors) that was transparent. (You could see the mouse and stuff behind it).
Edit: now it runs almost better than when I first got it.
Upgrading to Windows 10 was my biggest mistake in technological decisions. Loads of bugs, incompatibilities, issues, tablet UI, etc. Thank god you can revert.
People who constantly hold the "omg just upgrade already" rhetoric are intolerable pampered babies.
This still confuses me. I personally know no one who has upgraded to win10 and has any big dealbreaking problems except for the usual touchpad not working properly. I personally had more problems with win7, for example wifi stops working after 10 minutes no mater what wifi device I use. I just don't get it.
I use 10 on my new laptop and keep my desktop on 7. I don't know why but having my desktop running 10 just feels wrong to me. 10 is better for laptops and being mobile methinks. But who knows, I may end up enjoying 10 more the longer I use it.

Wait, you mean to say... different people, with different computers, can have different experiences with an operation system?
I'm frankly shocked and appalled at the very implication.

I had just about every version of windows break on me one way or another, it happened with XP, 7, 8. It was always fixed by doing a clean install. The upgrade process is prone to breakage on older installs and i bet most people just didn't bother going a step further because of the already poor reputation of the OS.
There's a very clear difference between trying to keep people up to date and shoving things down their throats with brute force.
With the majority of users being apathetic or ignorant, you have to resort to "shoving things down their throats" to keep them up to date.
Look how long it took to drag people off XP, and consider the ancillary effects of such problems. Webdevs having to maintain compatibility for IE6 and etc.
A lot of people (Even some in this thread) do not see further than the frontend changes in the OS, so while they stick to what they know because it "doesn't offer them anything" they miss out on things like HEASLR, the move to a tickless kernel and so forth.
As someone who is switching to Linux permanently soon, I hope this doesn't affect me. :(
As someone who is switching to Linux permanently soon, I hope this doesn't affect me. :(
It won't; this only affects older versions of Windows and has nothing to do with Linux at all.

The only problem I've so far encountered in W10 were occasional BSOD's since the anniversary update

Yeah, odd that the worst thing I've been told about win10 of all those people that I know who have computers with specs going from shit dualcore celerons and pentiums to computers that costs a car was usually just a not correct driver. Not saying that these people don't dislike win10, some definitely do, it's just that their problems are nowhere near as extreme as those that are mentioned here.
Good job I can keep up with the times, Windows 10 isn't so bad it's just another OS which is simple to use (Free too for me).
There are plenty of powerful processors out there that aren't like this anyway so it isn't the end of the world for gamers/modelers/etc stuck to older OS versions, still a few years before any of you need to worry.

I disagree. Microsoft should solve the issue that makes users apathetic or ignorant.
If people don't se further than the frontend changes, that's Microsofts problem, and they should solve it accordingly, not shove anything down peoples throats.
Perhaps people are ignorant, or perhaps Win10 just doesn't offer people enough to motivate them to upgrade? In either case, it's Microsofts job to inform them, or make Win10 seem more attractive, instead of bruteforcing anything.
