Nor should you try to pin the blame entirely on the police.
uh, no I should, they attacked him for zero reason.
And tasing someone with a heart problem is an even MORE life-threatening situation.
Which of course begs the question of just how much the police knew about his situation. Yeah, he's on life alert but for what reason? Is it severe?
I'm sorry that I can't see a single damn thing that this guy did wrong here. Seems to be the blame is entirely on the police. [editline]7th March 2012[/editline] These guys who have barged into my house and started tazing me clearly know what's best for me.
He pressed his life alert button, and would not respond when the operator was asking if he was okay. At that point the cops get involved and it's too late for him to say "I'm fine go away." He should've opened the door and gave them an explanation. [editline]7th March 2012[/editline] Why was it his niece couldn't talk to the officers or the man and help calm down the situation?
Why was it his niece couldn't talk to the officers or the man and help calm down the situation?
Probably because it was assumed things weren't exactly fine and dandy in the house.
Which of course begs the question of just how much the police knew about his situation. Yeah, he's on life alert but for what reason? Stop defending this, you know just as well as we do how bullshit this is.
And this is why UK police don't have guns.
Probably because it was assumed things weren't exactly fine and dandy in the house.
So you go in and tase him? That's fucking stupid. Cops were obviously trigger happy.
Surely if you're being attacked you should defend yourself, even if it is police. If I was being tased when I thought I was doing nothing wrong I wouldn't just take it.
Some people can filter out the electricity and regain control really quickly, some drugs also do this, pcp if I remember right, there's probably videos on youtube with this. But I've never heard of anyone with fucking heart problems being able to withstand tazers, mainly because they can't pump the adrenaline fast enough.
you still dont pull out a weapon on the police. good or bad youre going to be shot.
You don't tase people with heart problems.
"Grabbed a knife and charged at police officers" more like "Got tased and fell near a knife"
They didn't shoot him for going near a knife, they shot him for charging at them with one, slight difference.
they still shouldn't have tased him in the first place. What part of "this man might be injured, therefore we should tase him and shoot him with beanbag shotguns" makes ANY goddamn sense?
And if you, a trained fucking police officer trained in cqc, can't grab the knife of a fucking 68 year old with heart problems, with your kevlar fucking gloves, you need to go back to the academy. Hell, it said that they had shotguns, damn things are awesome as a stick to hit something out of the hands of people.
Nor should you try to pin the blame entirely on the police.
They knew he had heart problems, they didn't handle this professionally at all.
They knew he had heart problems, they didn't handle this professionally at all.
And they riled him up, not calmed him down, the fault is 100% on the police.
And this is why UK police don't have guns.
Pretty much. The last time the police shot someone it sparked one of the biggest riots in British history.
Does anyone here think that maybe the guy didn't grab a knife and that the cops are lying? How could there be even 1 such heartless bastard in the police force let alone a whole squad of them. Grabbing a knife or not.
A 68 year old man with heart problems and who can't walk more than 40 feet magically withstands taser shots and grabs a butcher knife. Jeah, I dunno. I find this a bit difficult to believe.

Grabbing a knife or not.
They pretty much are lying, a tazer, if you have a heart condition pretty much utterly destroys your heart beat for a couple of seconds, maybe even stopping it in some cases, I seriously doubt he would be capable of fighting after that.
stuff like this makes me really glad that UK police don't carry guns. I've read so so so many articles about innocent people being killed by a trigger-happy and stupid policeman and that shit shouldn't happen after the first few people are shot
I'm guessing if he did pick up a knife it was something to do with PTSD from being in combat. He probably had an adverse reaction to the guns being out and (possibly) the flashing lights and noises etc. and his heart problem would have made things worse. Nice mishandling of the situation, officers...
I still find it odd that police were even there. I apparently line in the one corner of the country where ambulances show up in a medical emergency instead of a police squad!
Maybe he was wearing thick clothing that didn't let the tazer's needle reach the skin? Maybe he was using one of those incredibly thick robes.

So you go in and tase him? That's fucking stupid. Cops were obviously trigger happy.
You have to assume all scenarios, perhaps they assumed he was delusional from his heart problem due to some odd reason? And as far as I know the Taser in said scenario is by far the best option to bring someone down if they're delusional if you want to avoid physical harm. Last time I checked police equipped with fucking shotguns use kevlar armor
The dude didn't handle it well but the cops had more than enough non lethal options.
Last time I checked police equipped with fucking shotguns use kevlar armor
The protection from stabbing in Kevlar only goes so far, and you cannot protect all of the body, he could have easily sliced open the thigh of an officer. Just have to consider all probabilities, even if I disagree with their choice.

You don't just bust in the doors and tazer an old man because he said he was fine.
