No, it isn't. You're born with a skin color and you cannot decide what color you are born with. However, sexual orientation is a choice you make, and if you choose to advertise your sexual orientation you should be prepared to handle being rebuked by people who disapprove of your orientation. This is more like being banned for saying you're a fan of a hockey team that several xbox live members hate.
Not everyone makes the decision to be GLBT. It's not like a switch where you can just turn it off. I have many homosexual friends and relatives, from what they've told me they've been like that all of their life.
She wasn't banned for being a Lesbian, she was banned for harassing other players.
How the hell does stating that you're lesbian in your profile harass other players?
How the hell does stating that you're lesbian in your profile harass other players?
because a lot of people will be offended by it
because a lot of people will be offended by it
So me saying "fuck you mother fucker" over xbl is less offensive than writing that you're lesbian in your profile?
yes
yes
How so? Please explain in depth how yelling vulgar words which are censored by the FCC on television are less offensive that stating that you are lesbian.
because the words are being yelled, while "i am a lesbian lol" on your profile is in writing

Also, when I glanced at it for a second I thought your profile pic was a picture of Nicolas Cage XDD
because the words are being yelled, while "i am a lesbian lol" on your profile is in writing
What's the difference? Does writing ensue less/more of an importance? Last time I checked words do not change BASE meaning from being written or spoken (sarcasm, tone of voice etc. do but from what I can tell those have nothing to do with this)
because the words are being yelled, while "i am a lesbian lol" on your profile is in writing
Wouldn't voice be more personal and therefore more offensive than writing, though?
We can't have kids reading that and asking their parents what gay is. What kind of world would it be if people acted as if being gay is a normal and perfectly okay thing?
Why can't kids know? Why does everyone feel the need to protect them from EVERYTHING, specially when they're going to find out in a couple years anyways...
She has every right to say shes lesbian
Voice CAN'T be monitored and thus not bannable, but text can be seen.
How the hell does stating that you're lesbian in your profile harass other players?
No that's the point, the things are unrelated kinda, she was going round annoying people then going "BUT I'M A LESBIAN!!11!!"
Voice CAN'T be monitored and thus not bannable, but text can be seen.
yes exactly
That's too bad. But, still, "Don't ask, don't tell" is a good thing for EVERYTHING.
It is so offensive to say that, I used to do that as well until I saw the light through all the beatings and anal torturing the gay away christ organization gave me.
No that's the point, the things are unrelated kinda, she was going round annoying people then going "BUT I'M A LESBIAN!!11!!"
You don't know that, no where in the OP did it state that. Chances are some guy looked at her profile because he heard a girl voice and saw it.
They shouldn't mention that they are gay then there would be no problem.
They shouldn't mention that they are gay then there would be no problem.
It shouldn't be considered a problem in the first place
She deserved it. Everyone here's like "omg microsoft is anti gay!", no, she was flaunting her sexual preference around in her game name in attempt to be edgy and probably stir up shit with other players, that's why microsoft doesn't allow sexual preferences to be in gamer-tags. The media's just putting a stupid spin on this shit like they always do, don't buy into it.

Besides even if she was doing it to be edgy she still shouldn't get banned for it. It's like banning gurant for having a dick as his avatar (he doesn't anymore, but that's because he's a mod and can have better things)
We can't have kids reading that and asking their parents what gay is. What kind of world would it be if people acted as if being gay is a normal and perfectly okay thing?
Cuh. We can't have parents raising their children properly! Instead we'll lie to them and destroy anything that requires explination!

And for those of you saying "Noone forced her to put her orientation up" and other such flawed arguements. No one forced other players to look into her profile and make the complaints.

My jew friend got banned cuz his gamertag wuz phatjew.
It shouldn't be considered a problem in the first place
I find it a problem when people mention their orientation to me with no asking, no matter what orientation they are. Sex belongs in the bedroom.
I find it a problem when people mention their orientation to me with no asking, no matter what orientation they are. Sex belongs in the bedroom.
Stating your orientation is like stating that your german or irish, and it is not something that is limited to the bedroom. If you disagree please explain in full detail why. Stating that it's not like that because german is an ethnicity and lesbian is a preference does not work. Preference and ethnicity are both groups which both support an identity.
Stating your orientation is like stating that your german or irish, and it is not something that is limited to the bedroom.
I honestly have a small problem with people stating their race, as well. I have a problem with it because it's a little like bragging. It's not it really matters.
I honestly have a small problem with people stating their race, as well. I have a problem with it because it's a little like bragging. It's not it really matters.
Ahh that makes sense. it's still not something you should be persecuted/banned for though.
Ahh that makes sense. it's still not something you should be persecuted/banned for though.
Definately not.
