If you can't switch because of this (I haven't switched on my gaming PC) https://github.com/10se1ucgo/DisableWinTracking is a nice program.

Last time I tried any of that I couldn't install updates
Terrible search results.
Tried searching for "Z80" and it threw me all the wikipedia articles that are NOT in english
Searching "Zilog Z80" gave me a mobile english wikipedia site
It's just one more click to change the language, but it shows that their algorithm is bad
Google always gives me mobile and foreign language links too. Same with youtube, if I search for a tutorial, the title will be english but the damn description and video is always spanish, german, or french.
Joke's on you Microsoft, my PC is set to use Irish English which Cortana doesn't support, so Cortana can't be enabled on my PC.

dual boot brah
Or even better if your CPU supports it, GPU Passthrough.
Heavily cutting down my exposure to Windows has improved my sanity by magnitudes.

With the anniversary update we're getting ubuntu inside windows 10 so thats nice
Ubuntu paired up with Microsoft to create the Windows Subsystem for Linux, which allows you to use the Ubuntu OS inside Windows.
Its meant to only be command line but someone got a full GUI working

people have been using x servers on it for awhile
although why would anyone ever use unity on windows

I remember the pains of dual booting many moons ago. Might give it a go again.
Honestly I use Windows for 2 reasons nowadays: my windows laptop works better than my Linux one (Linux one is physically broken) and sometimes I like to play games, but not very often. Otherwise, there's no reason to me to use Windows. It's not very good for programming compared to Linux, and I can do anything on Linux that I can in windows except games, which take up a very insignificant amount if my time now
Here's hoping this is a Don Mattick type scenario where it only takes one guy leaving for everything to change for the better.

I'm unsure how this actually works. But there's a language combo box in the settings now
I think it installs it's appropriate language pack so it can be used.
Fucked around with it once

not only that but the ones that are are optimized like piss apparently

It varies quite a bit, some are pretty close to their windows equivelant. And of course occasionally weird shit like this happens occasionally
https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Win10-Linux-Vulkan-Early
And even people using Windows only can still help increase the diversity of games on Linux and MacOS by encouraging companies to use OpenGL and Vulkan instead of DirectX. Games made in those from the start are far easier to port, and can be ported much better too. Engine is probably the most important bit too, which makes it nice that UE4 and unity are getting so popular. I'm pretty optimistic about the future of gaming on Linux, I'm sure it'll be a long-ass time for a hardcore gamer to use Linux only, but for people like me who don't really fit that definition it's becoming more and more palatable.
Where are all of the Microsoft fanboys? Shouldn't they be here by now, defending W10 as the best O.S. ever created and all that?
Microsoft continuing their disgusting tirade of disrespecting user control under the guise that people will forget about being angry later.

we can enjoy windows 10 over 7 but not be blind to the flaws
we aren't trump supporters
So this won't affect people who don't have cortana availiable?
You couldn't really turn off Cortana to begin with. Even if you disabled it in the options, the process still runs. And trying to kill the process immediately spawns a new Cortana process.
Been using Classic Shell since day 2 of release with it's superior Windows 7 style search. Cortana has been enabled the entire time and the only time I ever saw it was when my friend wanted to see if it worked and I successfully Binged Adolf Hitler.
Gotta love Microsoft removing even more user choice and requiring third party programs to make basic changes to the OS.
I wouldn't mind Cortana so much if it could utilize Google instead of Bing.
I wouldn't mind cortana if she weren't brain dead retarded. Google nail'd natural language more than anyone. Cortana cannot understand even slightly different sentences.
As an example.
"whats eight times four?"
"I'm sorry I didn't quite get that."
"What IS eight multiplied with four"
"Say it one more time"
"fuck off"
"Got it"

I can't find Cortana on the task manager
So either I'm blessed, or it's very, very hidden

It's this one but a couple of seconds after you close the start menu it just suspends and drops to 128K of memory usage like so.

it's unsupported in my country
I Win
i fucking hate cortana, it opens skype for me all the time for no reason. even when i dont have a mic plugged in.
Talk about sensationalist title. Using Cortana is an active choice you have to make, nothing forces you into using it if you have other means of searching. This is like complaining you can't disable the start menu because you've decided to use the desktop icons only and want to remove the other options of accessing your files and programs.
There are LOTS of things to complain about regarding W10 but this seems really petty.
It's a shame that Microsoft hates options, it seems even Android and iOS allow disabling their digital assistants (although I don't know how "disabled" they truly are); however I don't get why people hate Cortana. It's not as helpful as I'd like (most questions are just a bing search) and probably not quite as good as others (I've never used them to comment), but it's still much faster for performing supported actions than doing them manually, if you know how to use it.

That sounds like you didn't have internet, or something was misconfigured, as anything it doesn't understand will just do a bing search.

There's certainly particular phrases missing (for example, it understood "multiplied by", but not "multiplied with"), although for the most part it gets it. I mostly have issues with voice recognition on account of my poor microphone, but I usually just type my queries anyway; voice is only useful on phones.
It's not like Cortana will be useful unless you have your Win 10 installation connected to an MS account anyway (which I don't).
My only gripe with Cortana is that it likes to eat RAM whenever it's not being used, but looking at my Task Manager now, it's not even using 1 MB, so I guess MS finally optimized it some (it used to use like 70+ MB while just idling).
As long as Cortana doesn't pester me to connect to an MS account while searching for a program to open, or displays ads, I won't really care. Once that happens, I guess I'll just roll back to before the anniversary update.

This. I'm using Hungarian so she cant be enabled on mine either. Same goes for a bunch of other win10 features that were somewhat controversial.
