This. I never understood why people complained about EA so much.
I dislike them due to the rape of C&C series.
And we all thought EA was bad, it seems EA have improved while activision have gone down the shitter, from actually publishing decent games back in the days. Except starcraft 2 and Singularity and probably a few more I have missed.
EA's stayed the same, it's just that the activision hate has drawn the attention away from EA somewhat.
Play Station :3:
People of the future might not know any of our games :ohdear: This will render large segments of popular culture (e.g. A large portion of Newgrounds flash videos) unintelligible to people of the future :ohdear:
Why the hell are you guys discussing wheter activison is a good or a bad thing for games? That has nothing to do with the OP! Anyway, I guess if games would be more accepted as culture or as a part of it, more actions would be taken to preserve them.
Atari 2600 still running, though one of the controllers is a bit wonky.
EA's stayed the same, it's just that the activision hate has drawn the attention away from EA somewhat.
EA did a lot of DRM, and reversed DRM and so on. And you're not 8 years old for disliking EA. We don't like activision now, they're an oversized company sitting on a lot of great developers, so is EA, yet it seems EA has given a tad more freedom to their developers now, from what I last heard. And of course, every command and conquer fanboy will rage over that EA didn't keep publishing westwoods games, but instead bought them up. But command and conquer fanboys are dying with cnc4 anyway. This is a topic that can be discussed, but I don't have anything against EA, Activision is only because they overprice everything, shit on the PC platform, best example is MW2 with no dedicated servers and no modding. But whatever, this isn't a rant thread.
Fuck yeah Jaguar. I think I lost all the games for it though. I played Dragon Lair and Doom on it, however.
Blizzard had already done pretty much all the work before Activision bought them. Just because they own the game doesn't mean they made it.
Activision made the choice to push for an idiotic "social networking" experience with RealID. Activision also made the choice to split Starcraft 2 into three $60 editions, add $25 mounts and $10 pets to WoW, and more. It's safe to say that Activision is trying to ruin the game industry and whore as much money as possible. And unfortunately, the raging masses of young idiotic teens are eating the shit right up by purchasing $15 map packs and buying all the Guitar Heroes Activision releases. And they make like five GH games a year.
This is really interesting... I've never even thought about this before how cool... and scary. Should bust out my genesis.
why is it such an issue to you that people choose to pay money for content calling guitar hero players young idiotic teens is more of a reflection of yourself than them
You can't blame one company for the destruction of "video game heritage" because they only make things for the present, they are not actively going to seek out and destroy the old. Putting all the blame on one company is like trying to put the blame on one person for WW1.
WWI was Germany's fault, so sayeth the treatise of Versailles
still got my genesis, nes, 64, and snes.
its true, activision has ruined the gaming heritage. they dont even make good games anymore. sorry bud, you can keep on believing what is wrong though.
How the fuck can you even post like this You're trying to force YOUR opinion on him, as if he gives a fuck what your opinion on the matter is.
It has always saddened me a bit that my kids probably won't be able/won't care to play some of my favorite games from my childhood.
I miss my N64
I miss all my old systems. Everything but my SEGA Gamegear is busted from overuse. Even my special PS1 that could play imports and copied disks!
I miss all my old systems. Everything but my SEGA Gamegear is busted from overuse. Has anyone ever thought about a rereleased old console with net connection, and all games as DLC? that would be pretty cool
Had the Amstrad, Atari 2600, Super Nintendo, Sega ( I think genesis ). I know I'm missing one but the Amstrad screen broke, Atari stopped working one day, same with the Super Nintendo but the Sega still works- OH Nintendo 64! That still works. I can still play Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine on the Sega, it's really quite fun. :) [editline]03:17AM[/editline] I also have Mario All-Stars and the classic Mario games for the Super Nintendo still. I heard Mario Kart can go for like £400. We have two copies. [editline]03:18AM[/editline] Nostalgia!
I had a Sega Mega Drive(Genesis for you Americans) with the whole Sonic games collection. Then my dad decided to sell it along with the games without my knowledge, one day I arrive from school and see a Playstation 1 where my Mega Drive was. Talk about having mixed feelings, I was happy I had a Playstation yet I was sad that I lost my Mega Drive. [editline]03:43AM[/editline] Then again I remember that my Mega Drive was on it's last moments, sometimes didn't read games, many times it would freeze while playing, blowing and Q-tip did nothing. I guess if I still had it, it would probably be bricked and sitting in my closet, just like my Playstation is right now, sister tripped on controller cords one too many times. Fortunatelly, thanks to the miracle of emulators, I can still play my PS games.
Atari 2600 owners unite
For about 10 years I thought my 2600jr was broken, then I realized I just had the TV on the wrong channel :downs:
Hopefully James Rolfe will answer this call-to-arms as well. After all, he's the AVGN, and he's got a massive collection of games from long-lost aeons.
I miss my N64
I remember when it was nearly impossible to get a terrible game on that system.
I have a CD-I somewhere...
Has everyone forgot about the magical world of Emulators?
Has everyone forgot about the magical world of Emulators?
emulators are fucking terrible.
emulators are fucking terrible.
No they're not :colbert: I can't afford a 10,000 dollar NES so they're the best thing to use to play old games. I'm sorry I wasn't born at the right time, I have the original Playstation though, it doesn't work but I have it.
I used to have an NES, SNES, and N64 that all worked perfectly. But my brother sold them.
