I really would like to know how blind he is. I know several people who are "legally blind" but it doesn't really dampen their abilities any.
I really would like to know how blind he is.
Did you read the article?
How will he call for help should the need arise? "SOS, SOS" "We hear you pal. What's the trouble?" "I think I'm sinking. Either that or my toilet is overflowing." "Give us your position and we'll send someone out." "I'm in my boat...in the ocean..." "Uh, can you give us your GPS coordinates?" "Well, the voice enabled GPS was a hundred and sixty dollars and I wanted to bring a kegger." "Can you look around and describe what you see?" "It's dark." "Is it night time there?" "No but it's night time somewhere in the world right now, let's pretend I'm there."
Legally blind is different from total blindness. Just thought I'd point that out.
In order to determine which people may need special assistance because of their visual disabilities, various governmental jurisdictions have formulated more complex definitions referred to as legal blindness.[2] In North America and most of Europe, legal blindness is defined as visual acuity (vision) of 20/200 (6/60) or less in the better eye with best correction possible. This means that a legally blind individual would have to stand 20 feet (6.1 m) from an object to see it—with corrective lenses—with the same degree of clarity as a normally sighted person could from 200 feet (61 m)
[editline]30th August 2011[/editline] I'm legally blind.
Ninja'd by one post. Sorry to rain on your parade but 'legally blind' is nowhere near 'completely blind'.
Hey guys without contacts I'm would be legally blind (except legally blind people are like that with the best possible corrections). It really isn't that bad. I mean I've been on boats without contacts and it isn't that hard to see things. You can see the shore, other boats, and the horizon. I still couldn't sail around the world alone though.. :smith:
Someone should put him in one of those olympic pools with a strong current against him so that it seems like he is moving forever. See how long it takes him to realize hes not in the ocean.
It' says in the article he can see out of one eye(his only eye) but it's like looking down a straw. Common guys read for once.

His service will be honored.
