What good has the religious doctrine brought to the world? Sure there may be Charitable religious organisations but the state could easily provide that without involving Religion and other doctrines. It may also provide hope to someone in a bad situation but hope of salvation is cause to just sit around and die. The payoff of Religion organised and non-organised is heavily outweighed by the drawback. It draws humanity toward a hateful and ignorant view of the universe and causes shit like the story in the OP.
