If anybody's actually interested as to why this is, here's the actual Attorney-General answering questions:

It looks like we might end up having a three strikes ISP policy if they get their way.
LET US PAY FOR GAME OF THRONES
FUCK

i want to give them money and theY WONT TAKE IT
The fact of the matter is, is that iiNet won a landmark court battle that stated ISP's are not responsible for what their users download
So technically iiNet could sue the Commonwealth

I torrent the show, then buy it on bluray later when it eventually comes out. Seems like a fair deal to me.
I have three options.
Wait 8 months for it to come out on DVD.
Pay $50 a month for Foxtel just to watch one show.
Pirate it an hour after it's released.
What the fuck does he expect me to do?

If the article is correct, they can only provide "legal incentives" to get ISPs to do it voluntarily. With how difficult it is to track people down due to sourcing IPs from torrents and the fact nearly every ADSL user uses dynamic IPs, they would have to provide a pretty big incentive to get anything done.
I don't really see it happening since they don't have an incentive big enough, especially if it is viable to not go with it and there are ISPs who do not provide warnings, they will suck up all the customers who are worried about piracy.
maybe there's an endemic problem with the system instead, i mean when everybody is doing something illegal then maybe possibly there's a problem with your legal system or the way people obtain digital media there
Nah it's clearly the Australian mentality. We're all a bunch of cheapskates.
Get rid of foxtels fucking monopoly
Besides in Australia even police officers pirate so I doubt highly this shit will be enforced
i can verify this i have a friend who's dad is a detective its true

I can attest to this.
Hell, I live in Portugal, a small ass country going through an economic crisis and we get Game of Thrones on cable the day after it airs in the US. Why can't Australia keep up?

Australia, "Because fuck you!". At least when it comes to digital media.
I don't understand how stupid the government can be. If they want to crack down on this, then add more fucking services. Not everyone wants to waste cash on foxtel.

Have some self control maybe? Why do you have to watch the show right now?
This thread is first world problems to the next fucking level.

On the other hand the limitations he presents exist for no real technical reason, they solely exist because someone wants to have a monopoly on running the show.
And now this shitty method gets even more legitimacy because government officials want to reinforce it.

Because people like the show? People like talking about the latest episode? People don't like the fact that iTunes won't even see Season 4 in Australia for a while? People don't want to spend $100 a month just to watch one show?
And it is a first world problem. We're a first world country, and we don't have a choice on how to watch something.
well, its not like cracking down on it will do anything, people will become harder to catch.
if they are really going to go ahead with it ill just buy a vpn

also i have foxtel but still download game of thrones so i dont have to wait for it. theres like a 4 hours gap between where it airs in the US and when it airs in australia
