Some religious people have taken that stereotype to be something they can use as an auto-win button to dismiss any debate or discussion. I've had it leveraged against me quite a few times.
the most amazing things for me, are the horrible explanations you hear when people try to explain why that must be how he looked like, which range from the racist, to the hilarious or both(he had blue eyes and blonde hair because he was powerful, was one such explanation), idk, maybe the person though jesus was a super saiyan or something. :v: [sp]this is from an actual manga btw[/sp]
Had that same idea as soon as I saw that picture without reading your post :v: But weirdly enough, Jesus is never depicted as a muscular man... A bit, yeah, but not like a Cadillac of men.
BREAKING NEWS: Fedora sales plummet as atheism sees decline.
How does wealth and education correlate with religiousness? Pretty much all of the high ups in the Republican party are rather wealthy and educated, but they still are often very religious.
You can lead a Republican to water but you can't make him think
Its sad no one recognizes the present western mind set and cultural form as an inheritance of Christianity and Jewish with touches from the Muslim world, specially in Spain.
racism against immigrants doesn't help one bit, especially when directed even at those who seek to fully integrate with european culture, which has the cascade effect of discouraging others from even trying(like the roma in france which can have trouble even getting one's son to school depending on the area), and then decide to just band together since they feel excluded which could then create other problems(like muslim communities using their own internal laws and shit).
Frankly, in Eastern Europe most Roma don't even try to integrate, since they already have their own society, and have had it for centuries. Problem is, that society's values and inner rules clash with that of the majority's on multiple points, and those who integrate into the greater society can become ostracized among them.
No it's from Metal Gear Solid 2. Who is T.S. Eliot?
This post blew away the entire thread.
And this is why I'm annoyed at people who advocate letting the population of the western world decline. It is very true that we are currently hogging the earth's resources, but a decline in population also means a decline in the comparatively quite enlightened (because let's be honest, the average person in Europe is quite enlightened compared to what is standard in the poorest parts of the world that are experiencing a population boom these days, especially with many of their governments actively maintaining bigotry and ignorance) attitude and society that allowed us to advance in civil matters to where we are today.
We'll be fine, don't worry.
So some people around here think what Habermas has said is dumb. Nice
Frankly, in Eastern Europe most Roma don't even try to integrate, since they already have their own society, and have had it for centuries.
Although, as they seem to be a first generation, I can't 100% assert his: The same happens to some degree with the Chinese here in Argentina. They don't want to learn the language and they seclude/live inside their own neighbours. Idk man, the Paraguayans, Bolivians and Peruvians all don't have a problem living "mixed" with others in an area. I never heard of the "Paraguaytown", but yes of the "chinatown"

It's a real shame those kinds of people have appropriated Dawkins the way they have and that he automatically gets associated with them by people, yeah he's stuck his foot in it a few times but that is actually a pretty good book
I never heard of the "Paraguaytown", but yes of the "chinatown"
The difference between Argentinians and the Chinese is much larger than the difference between Paraguayans and Argentinians is. When the cultures are too different minorities form their own communities and try to resist integration. With cultural groups like Filipino's, Western Europeans and the Japanese in North America you don't see this as much and I think its because of how similar their cultures and countries development are.
This isnt much of an issue. Populations in developing world are growing rapidly but will slow as the countries become more developed. While becoming developed the population will get wealthier and more educated and as a result will become more atheistic.
But if the people leave the developing countries and emigrate to the western countries because of all the problems there wont be anyone who tries to solve the problems in the developing countries.
But if the people leave the developing countries and emigrate to the western countries because of all the problems there wont be anyone who tries to solve the problems in the developing countries.
Alot of immigrants return home and use their learned skills to benefit their home countries. They also send back money to help their families.
This isnt racism.
I don't really see how its racist to point out that the Roma in general don't have any interest in settling down or integrating.
