I've seen the video, it's interesting though I believe there's some cherrypicking going on there. We've discussed John Money before, and all these cases prove is that you can't just force a gender on a child anyway. That said I'm nowhere near an expert in the topic, and personally believe both have influences in the formation of the gender.
So you agree that there is a biological component to the formation of gender identity? Doesn't that contradict the idea of gender being entirely socially constructed?
So you agree that there is a biological component to the formation of gender identity?
I mean that social interactions, labelling and such acts on the sexual dimorphism of the child, and through the biased raising of the child into either a boy or a girl influence the formation of the gender.
Hasn't essentially all modern science disproven this theory of gender?

[editline]26th October 2016[/editline]
Hasn't essentially all modern science disproven this theory of gender?
Depends what you mean by gender.
Depends what you mean by gender.
The idea that differences between men and women are purely results of social conditioning.
The idea that differences between men and women are purely results of social conditioning.
Then yes, sort of. Although you're sort of using gender to define itself when you use the terms 'men' and 'women' there, so I can't give you a definite answer unless you clarify your terms.
I'm not even sure what I'm arguing about anymore to be honest v:v:v
It's a difference in labeling, not a difference in the actual ideas themselves. This topic is hard to talk about because the english language itself was not designed to cope with it.
I'm not even sure what I'm arguing about anymore to be honest v:v:v
You're arguing an outdated definition of gender while most other people are referring to the medical version. You're referring to Gender Roles.
It's a difference in labeling, not a difference in the actual ideas themselves. This topic is hard to talk about because the english language itself was not designed to cope with it.
It works fine if you use modern terms [editline]s[/editline] I'm not trying to be overly-aggressive and I apologize if it came across that way but these conversations go absolutely nowhere if people are using different terms.
This thread became very interesting, i must have read it back to front thrice already... There are more then 5 combinations in chromosomes btw, there are even people who have multiple combinations at once.
If you're born with an XY chromosome, you have a male brain, regardless of how you actually think or prefer things, you're still male.
you are so ignorant https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Complete_androgen_insensitivity_syndrome
