Well how many of the cases actually involved antivaxxers? I personally never get vacs or flu shots, not because I'm against them but because I rarely ever get sick and dont feel I need them.

Apparently, most of these cases so far in 2014 were people who had been current with their immunizations. HOWEVER, this simply means that the 2010 outbreak was so successful that Whooping Cough has mutated to better combat the vaccine. Essentially, people not being current with their vaccine in 2010 has vaccinated the whooping cough from the whooping cough vaccine. GG, anti-vaxxers, you're worse scum now than ever, the vaccine for whooping cough was already pretty bad as far as its effectiveness goes (six shots needed, and losing potency after the first year of vaccination), it may as well be a crime against humanity to not receive your full vaccinations.

So we are just supposed to take vaccines and shut up, and not question where they come from, what is in them, if they really work? I thought we were supposed to question everything, to make things better, safer for humankind. Progress into better things. If you knew how vaccines worked at all, you'd understand why we are having this outbreak. The same process that makes a vaccine work, can also work against it if the person isn't current on vaccine's that need boosters. I'll go ahead and use Whooping cough as the model here because it's both topic relevant, and requires a set number of boosters to be fully functional. Now, in 2010, there were large clusters of people without the vaccine in California, along with this, there were many who only had their original three boosters, (out of six total), this allowed Whooping Cough to infect a substantial vanilla base of non-vaccination victims, and then spread to those who had their vaccines, but they were not "current" on their vaccine. This leaves the body's antibodies to be able to defeat the normal whooping cough, but the mutations that can happen were able to easily beat the anti-bodies. THIS means that said better mutated strains survived, and infected more people. Four years later, this mutation comes back, whooping cough is stronger than before because it has been "vaccinated" against the thing that stops it. This would be something probably found out at birth and the side effects of vaccines only effect an incredibly small portion of the population because of this. The side effects for most of those are simply really weak symptoms of your body learning to fight off a disease anyway, which is going to happen. Literally anyone will get a few minor/moderate cold symptoms after getting a bunch of vaccinations, because your body is triggering the required response to actually utilize the vaccine.

Naturally, I dislike government so I automatically dislike everything they do, which may result in blind spots. I also try and have anything that goes into my body be as natural as possible, even though I know it's a sad reality.

It's pretty scary how many of our parents probably have stories of us almost dying when we were small/didn't know better. My mom recently told me that for some reason I was critically ill with something unknown when just barely a month old. Of course the mentality back then was to slap a pill in it's mouth and see if it opens it's eyes to greet the sunrise. What sort of chilled me was that I did. "Against all expectations" my mother was told, while she had been panicking and crying the whole night. It unnerves me that these years I've had so far could've just as easily never been and the world would've been none the wiser. tl;dr Don't take modern medicine for granted. We have the opportunity now to avert unnecessary suffering. Don't squander it with apathy and ignorance.

Reasoning aside, the parents of the kids not getting vaccinated don't actually know what they're vaccinating against. They've never seen how fucking awful a lot of these disease are. They don't have the fear. Its so fucking frustrating. I personally think it should be child abuse to not vaccinate your children though.

It's commonly administered in High School because that's when teens experiment, and have the most sexual and physical contact with people. Also, if we're still talking about side effects of vaccination, the benefits still outweigh the downsides. The only real possible downside of a vaccination is the new virus taking traits off a dormant virus from a vaccination. Overall, life expectancy of humans have improved overall due to vaccination. I honestly don't see why you wouldn't get vaccinated for a virus. The biggest downside to not getting vaccinated is fucking dying.
