Fucking hell, I keep feeling all the same emotions as I did years ago when I was just 6-7 years old
Reading this, it absolutely sends chills down my spine. At the time it happened I was 4 years old and had no Idea what was going on. Reading back on forums, of massive historic events happening, posts being made in real-time of the event. It is just mind blowing. It makes me think, will something ever happen of this magnitude ever happen again? And how would it unfold on todays modern forums.
Something like what happened at Boston. There will be the people spreading gore pics, the people like-whoring on Facebook "this is the guy that is responsible for the attack, like so he goes to prison", and the people spreading news/rumors.
I remember when I was walking out the door to head to school and my mom mentioned that someone had crashed a little plane into the WTC. They thought it was an accident. I remember thinking that that didn't seem right. I remember looking at the screen and seeing the smoke. I remember when the teachers told us and wheeled in the TVs. I remember when all of the rumors were circulating, especially the one involving the capitol building. I remember rememebering that my dad had told me that the conference he was at was right across the street from the capitol building. He had been exaggerating a bit, but I didn't know that, I also didn't know that the reports of an attack on the capitol building were false. I remember crying like a little bitch.... [editline]17th April 2013[/editline] I also remember eating in a restaurant in the basement of the WTC around August 2001, the staff there were really nice, the sandwiches were good, and I think all of the walls might have had neat murals. Thinking on it now, even if the same people were there (we were the only customers so we talked to them throughout our meal) they probably got out fine. Cool.
Wow guy on page 13 called it
Not to belittle the signifigance of these events, but you do realize that this means a whole slew of "anti terrorist" and probably "anti violence" laws will be passed through congress. Any "anti terrorist" laws will be given almost a blank check to do what is necessary. I'd be surprised if in 6 months you'll be able to make a domestic call without it being monitored. That's the way terrorism works. It's not the attack that hurts most people. A couple of hundred people die -- every death is tragic, but the truth is the real tragedy will be the loss of freedoms for the survivors.

<Al> now now we don't know it was a terrorist act yet. It might just be a practical joke <Raz> OH SADDAM HUSSEIN, YOU CARD! <Raz> YOUR JOKES ARE ALWAYS THE BEST!
I'm glad you posted this. Being 7 at the time I never really did care much about what happened. I never stopped to think about it in a serious light. I don't remember what my day was like, but I remember the hopes of not having to go to school due to a frightened mother. Disappointed I ended up going to school anyway. I remember in the following week making a block tower and knocking it over with my friend with paper airplanes (for this I feel terrible). I remember asking why they would be so stupid to jump to escape the flames. Reading this is like reliving it in a modern perspective, with matured opinions of the fate of the lives of others. And with the recent bombing of Boston, it really reflects the scale of destruction that went on that day. I feel awful comparing my reactions of that day to others, no matter how old I was.

A small amount of people talking, good grammar, no memes... no smart devices with cameras and an internet connnection...

Jeez that's cool as hell.
I was just 5 years old when this happened, yet I still remember watching the news when it went down - it was 5 or 6 PM in my timezone. God damn.
9/11 introduced me to how vulnerable people are, and how fucked up people are. It introduced me to real death. I watched the entire thing on the news live because I coincidentally missed elementary school that day. I remember my completely shocked reaction when I realized the gravity of the situation and when I saw the people jump from the building. I was emotionless and it made me think about the world when I was only 6 years old. It fucking changed the course of my views growing up as a kid.
Not sure, though there's also this: http://archive.org/details/sept_11_tv_archive The videos seam to be split up into 30 minute or so chunks here rather then 30 seconds.
The craziest is when the second plane hits - when people realize that there's no way this could be an accident. Edit: Oh dear god, I watched the Russian one, after the South Tower collapsed, the newscaster is barely staying calm, and is almost mumbling. And for all I know, that could've been the same channel I watched when it happened. Time matches up, at least... Edit 2: And then seeing news from before the attack, everyone is just so chill and naive :suicide: Like CNN, for example, one second it's fashion week, the next, well, you know.
I wonder how many threads Facepunch would have if it happened nowadays, the Boston Marathon one had 2,000 people viewing at one point
well the crysis leak one had ~7000 guests so... As a patriotic American, every time I read or hear about this awful day just makes me feel sick.
The best thread to read before sleep. God damn it all.
As a patriotic American, every time I read or hear about this awful day just makes me feel sick.
It makes me want to go through the shining finger sword routine and then punch Bin Laden so hard he explodes, but that's probably just remnants of the kid in me from then.
I remember asking my mom why they flew into the buildings. Then it came down, they said people were dying and my grandma pulled me out of the room so I couldn't see it. Reading this sends chills down my spine, I remember that feeling of "What the fuck? Why?" then the anger, frustration, and fear. It's all flowing back into me now. I think I'm going to go lay down now.
If anyone is interested, the BBC article has been archived: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/1537469.stm
Not to detract from the serious and well written article, but the layout of the BBC website 10 years ago was fucking awful!
There will be retribution. There will not be immidiate acts against whatever country we see fit. We will wait untill we have intelligence, good intelligence, and then we will study the best way to retaliate. I'm sure any country in the world harboring whichever terrorists did this, are certainly not going to stand up for their safety any longer. If they do, I'm certain we will either attack that state, or just ignore them as we go after ther terrorists. This IS war. _____________
posts like this make me sad
This reminds me of the archive threads on newgrounds forum
Gets real sad around page 7
Excuse me? Did I miss something? [editline]17th April 2013[/editline] Okay, what the fuck Page 2 already has a guy pointing out it is highly possibly Osama Bin Laden. One page later a guy says "WATCH BUSH START A FUCKING WAR" what the flying fuck? how?
I was in year 6 at school so was just 10 years old and the next day people were saying that there would be a war. I'll never forget 11 September if only because of the events of that day, we were walking home from school with two friends when someone in the year above (high school) came over to one of the people I was walking home with and wanted to fight with him over something that he had said. My mum was walking on the otherside of the road and ran over and stopped everything and walked the boy I was with home and his mum said to mine "have you seen the news, something awful has happened in America" we rushed home, BBC news had replaced the usual schedule

Definitely wasn't expecting that last part. Poor guys

I know this is a bit of a long-shot, but uhm; any Danish kids here remember that episode of Snurresnups Søndagsklub the Sunday after? I remember this really... Weird experience of watching Bubber explain what happened, complete with scale models and asking children who watched the news to explain it with him.
Jesus fucking christ. They detonated a bomb at THE PENTAGON. THE FUCKING CENTER OF US MILITARY INTELLIGENCE. I'm hardly a patriot, but this kind of shit makes me want to sign up for the Marines and go murder some fucking Ragheads.
Thought this snippet was interesting

If it's shocking to hear that on a 11 year old recording, how traumatizing was it to hear it live?

[QUOTE=Derp Y. We went over there, we destroyed them. Not just terrorists, we blew up and bombed and invaded everything those middle eastern people know. The sleeping beast's retribution was truly furious
