Occupy Oakland protesters break into City Hall, ransack the insides
Yeah lets start using the military as a police force, great idea.
I never suggested that we send in the Guard. I'm just stating that if they were there they wouldn't gun down crowds of people like people think they would. You're just putting words in my mouth now.
You people have some really black and white views of the world. It's a -THIS IS RIGHT- and -THIS IS WRONG-
Where is the gray zone? There are some really shitty Occupy Protestors who break into buildings and tear the place up, molest women in their tents and other shit.
There are some extremely responsible citizens among them too who know exactly what they're protesting and what they want and exercise their rights without violence or disruption to the general public.
There are cops who beat people, soldiers who shoot people, mistakes are made and power is abused. But there are also plenty of shining examples of bravery and honor amongst both the Police and Military.
Instead of generalizing everyone you should take every case individually. I'm really sick of seeing everyone being put under the same umbrella.
The main problem with OWS is that they never wanted a leader or a spokesperson. Leaving the door open for anyone to essentially "speak for the movement". And because of that, people who don't believe in the movement, mainly conservatives, anarchists and libertarians, have been able to infiltrate the protests and start shit with the police and break windows. This way, the media would focus on them and everyone around the country would categorize these few hooligans as representing the entire movement. No one can discredit them because nobody actually speaks for OWS.
So OWS has basically been hijacked by the people who are against it and now it will die.
eliminated every method of settling the dispute civilly!
Uh... how exactly?
Uh... how exactly?
well, i suppose the biggest thing would be a two party system made up entirely of center-right plutocrats
The thing is, when revolutions happen in the traditional form overseas, we root for them. From Egypt to Lybia, we root and cheer when people take to the streets to break down the powers above that oppress and wrong them. What irks me is when our feelings sour when it happens on our own shores.
The powers that be doesn't listen, but when some of us get irritated and give them a punch in the shoulder, we act that they've gone too far.
If they weren't causing any property damage then we wouldn't need the police out there.
Large gatherings of people usually require crowd and traffic control. That applies to a lot more than protests.
"Let's kill all these people over minor property damage"
The National Guard is commonly used to break up widespread riots using as peaceful a matter as possible. Usually forming picket lines and pushing the protesters away and breaking it up like that.
National Guard =/= kill the people
I'm telling you guys, revolt is impossible unless you have tanks. It's just how the modern world works.
Occupy Oakland hasn't gone peacefully from the start. The City of Oakland's been extremely aggressive towards them from the start.
Taking them some sweet time to get a job, lazy bastards.
Oh yes, like i said the word or implied to say "kill".
the national guard are supposed to be there to distribute balloons and confetti then?
well, i suppose the biggest thing would be a two party system made up entirely of center-right plutocrats
And? If people don't like that then they can go ahead and not vote for the "center right plutocrats" and if they don't like the two party system then they can vote for a third party. There are no laws in place that prevent this from happening.
Everyone keeps advocating government change through revolution despite the fact that we're about to have a universal suffrage election in 10 months and it's really starting to get on my nerves.
Occupy Oakland hasn't gone peacefully from the start. The City of Oakland's been extremely aggressive towards them from the start.
Not really, Occupy Oakland has been a (literally) bloody riot from day one, the city has a right to want to put it under a tighter grip that the rest.
The Tea Party also protested peacefully whereas these Occupy dumbasses destroyed public property. The guns part was excersizing their second amendment rights legally.
Hahaha.
You're a funny man.
Oh wait- you're serious. In that case, open up Google and search for Tea Party threats and acts of violence.
Enjoy combing through the results. Personally, my favorite incident happened last year in Phoenix, Arizona, when they started fighting with each other over immigration. It was pretty hilarious. I think YouTube's got a few dozen videos taken during it. Some guy with a gigantic swastika tattoo on his arm got kicked in the face.
But that other time when they started fighting in Washington, D.C. back in 2010 with the Occupy movement was pretty funny, too, especially when this guy with his kid hanging onto his shoulders started yelling at this black guy off to the side about taxes and religion.

NEW FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE:
NATIONAL GUARD BOT 5000
Killing machine. No chain of command. No moral compass. No common sense. It's only objective is to murder and gun down as many living things as possible.
Coming to an Occupy Oakland near you.
Is this honestly what you imagine when you think of the National Guard? God damn, they're soldiers only two weeks a month, two months a year. They're just average people whom step up to help disaster areas and so on. Citizen soldiers, not killbots.
right on
good. now take down whitehouse.

You're making the assertion, please show me the examples of that.

I don't understand why you so readily defend the system put before you. You know and I know that the only way in hell someone is getting elected is by going through one of the two parties, and even then the real power doesn't even lie with the elected officials.

Are you claiming that one group is worse than another one based solely which one has more acts of violence tied to their name? Or that they're somehow equal because both groups can be connected to an act of violence?
I almost forgot occupy existed because they haven't done anything significant.
the national guard are supposed to be there to distribute balloons and confetti then?
You're such a fucking idiot, I don't know where to start.
I almost forgot occupy existed because they haven't done anything significant.
Occupy Providence's tent city had been up until yesterday. They pretty much held the city hostage until their demands were met, and guess what? They won.
It's of the few Occupy groups I actually respect, because they fought for a specific goal, proposed reasonable solutions to their grievances that the city could actually accomplish, and managed to cause a tangible change for the people hit the hardest by economic injustice: the homeless.
You're making the assertion, please show me the examples of that.
For what? The threats? Okay.

Didn't find the original Phoenix fight video on YouTube, but I did find the yelling part of the Washington, D.C. fight I was looking for:

And a another incident I'd forgotten about that happened in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida between several Tea Partiers and a Union worker:

Neither; just showing that they both do violent shit. People can formulate their own conclusions based off of this fact and interpret it as they please.
lol
one minute Facepunch is calling for armed revolution, yet when someone actually attacks the government they call for an immediate halt to it
lol

I think what we quite need is a revolution - we are at the point that we can't work with the existing system to bring about the change we need. I'm not calling fora reckless, bloody affair, but I hope I don't come off as needlessly extremist when I say that the government needs to be expunged and re-written.
So taking bets, who thinks the police/military will kill the first protestor, or who thinks a protestor will kill a police officer/soldier?
I'm telling you guys, revolt is impossible unless you have tanks. It's just how the modern world works.
The modern world works by popular choice. If and when enough Americans are fed up with the current way of things, they will topple it. And there is nothing anyone at the top could hope to do about it.
Mother of God, Facepunch.
You people have the most schitzo political views on politics, and I agree with Zeke.
Make up your fucking minds
Oakland is infamously corrupt.
but...but...that's against the law! everyone knows that civil disobedience involves following the law to the letter and complying with all instruction from authority!

Yeah, how dare they.
No, I'm being serious. What they've done is seriously fucked up, and there is no excuse for it, so please don't try to make one.
