1. They had no knowledge of the existence of such a weapon. 2. There was only one enemy bomber, so nobody felt much of a need to get to the shelters. May not have prevented all casualties, but it would have saved around 17,000 according to estimates. The people who ordered the attack expected the civilians to take shelter.
My apologies, I quote, "On August 1, 1945, five days before the bombing of Hiroshima, the U.S. Army Air Force dropped one million leaflets over Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and 33 other Japanese cities warning that those cities were going to be destroyed within a few days", but it had no information of any nuclear weapon.
Well who attacked first? The answer is the aggressor. You figure it out. Sure, you might say "o lol well da us FORCED dem into da war!". But there is always a choice. Japan's choice was to stop its imperialist expansion, or continue suffering oil sanctions.
WHAT?! What's this logic doing in here??
i was hopin for a war
No. What I mean is, the average citizen, at the very least, dislikes and mistrusts America. Add that to a history of mistrusting foreigners, and you have some problems. What my question is, is our opinion correct? Was Japan really the aggressor? I know that makes me sound paranoid, but the habit of questioning what I know is what led me to convert to atheism after all.
Not really, only the angsty kids totally distrust the USA
Most misleading title ever.

ITT: People justify a bomb that can kill millions of people in one hit.
ITT: People justify a bomb that can kill millions of people in one hit.
If it saves a billion people in a billion hits, then yes, I support it.
ITT: People justify a bomb that can kill millions of people in one hit.
ITT: Close minded people thinking based on illogical emotions and not the looking at the big picture.
itt: People justify a bomb that can kill millions of people in one hit.
murder is never justified we should all use words and never weapons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i'd imagine it's one of these two http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanislav_Petrov http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vasili_Arkhipov (they both stopped separate nuclear launches)
yeah, the second guy one of history's great unsung heroes
They thought the Enola Gay was doing recon for the coming attack.
Key word
DESTROYED

murder is never justified we should all use words and never weapons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
why are you saying this as if its a joke? murder is never justified.
why are you saying this as if its a joke? murder is never justified.
To save others I'd say it can be.
To save others I'd say it can be.
Then it's not murder. Killing can be justified in many cases. Murder is not, and that is why it is murder.
To save others I'd say it can be.
i wouldnt classify that as murder i dunno. semantics are a bitch
Aliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnns!!!!
Then it's not murder. Killing can be justified in many cases. Murder is not, and that is why it is murder.
Oh then okay, I was just thinking as murder as...killing other humans, but okay then.
This is why we need no nuclear weapons in the world.
Nukes keep rational powers in check that would otherwise have less of a deterrent when going to war. This is precisely why the Cold War didn't end in us blowing each other to pieces.
This is why we need no nuclear weapons in the world.
Think about the term "speak softly and carry a big stick". We found the biggest stick. Sadly, others did too. It's not like they are being used often. Nuclear bombs are horrible weapons designed to kill. That's what war is all about my friend. I am not saying I support killing.. and I'm not saying I enjoy war.. but why not hate the smart bombs I've seen dropped on the enemy? I've seen the videos from over in Iraq (I am a USAF aircraft maintainer.. sometimes they show us. It's not just youtube stuff) They are guided by hand (or hand controller to be specific) and you watch it from release until impact. What about the other types of bombs used overseas? Collectively, they are still just as deadly. This is war, and this is how things work. I encourage you to keep your values and morals about peace, but I wouldn't get your hopes of over anyone putting their stick down anymore.
Nuclear weapons also killed plenty of civilians in Hiroshima.
Did you know the firebombing in Tokyo killed more people than the nukes did?
Well who attacked first? The answer is the aggressor. You figure it out. Sure, you might say "o lol well da us FORCED dem into da war!". But there is always a choice. Japan's choice was to stop its imperialist expansion, or continue suffering oil sanctions.
Moot point, the nukes were direct retaliation for Pearl Harbour, and Pearl Harbour was known to be a target before the attack happened but nothing was done to prevent it. If the US wasn't being negligent and actually preventing itself from being attacked (jeeze where have we heard that before) the nukes would have been unnecessary.
Nuclear weapons also killed plenty of civilians in Hiroshima.
even more civilians and Troops would've been killed if they hadn't been dropped, it can be speculated
If the US wasn't being negligent and actually preventing itself from being attacked (jeeze where have we heard that before) the nukes would have been unnecessary.
That makes no sense. If I was prepared to take the bullet then I wouldn't need to fire back?
"Then came word that the Air Force mistakenly shipped fuses that are used in nuclear weapons to Taiwan in 2006 in crates believed to contain helicopter batteries." Their secretly giving Taiwan nuclear weapons to use against the Chinese
It looks like they lost communication with several nukes. No but seriously what happened to that meme?
