This is bloody awful. We lose a huge part of our economy and tax intake, not to mention jobs, and if BP disintergrates then they will stop aid to the spill.
Nothing good comes out of this, except a petty sense of revenge.
I'm still calling on Texas to ban BP from all our Refineries due to the fact Tar Balls have now touched Texas Shores and the fact I was fucking there and felt the shockwave from when BP's Texas City Refinery Blew up back in 2005

Oh yeah, go Texas! Re-writing history and science since 1950!
The amount of :downs: and :bandwagon: in this thread is ridiculous. Most of you don't understand the circumstances, and just read "BP", "OIL DISASTER", "60 BILLION" and "BANKRUPTCY" then went "lol ownt".
"When a bank goes bust, it's not the bankers who starve"
If BP go down the owners/directors aren't going to be poor, it's the employees and shareholders who are going to be put out of money.
Imagine working all your life with BP, retiring then being told that you are not going to receive any more pension money because of an incident that happens after you retire? If anything people should be supporting BP, and trying to keep it from collapse.
itt: americans who think they know everything about the economy because their parents said BP was bad
BP isn't an evil company, it's just they made a mistake and they have no idea how to clean up oil spills.
Huh? No. BP has lost something like 90 minutes of profit on this spill so far. The spill was paid for before it ever happened.
Huh? No. BP has lost something like 90 minutes of profit on this spill so far. The spill was paid for before it ever happened.
I don't know where you pulled this statement from. BP makes around 20 billion a year in profits. The cost of the oil spill for them now is over 3 billion, plus the 20 billion spill fund. That makes 23 billion dollars total as of right now for the spill. That's over an entire years worth of profits. Not 90 minutes.
its actually a good idea assholes are getting what they deserved
Yeah its a great idea for thousands of people to lose their jobs and not be able to feed their families just to get revenge on some fat cat CEOs :downs: (who, by the way are billionaires who never have nor ever will have any trouble at all putting food on the table)
Wake up and open your eyes to the real world. Most peoples lives depend on getting their paycheck every week. you have no idea what massive effect losing a job has on someone's life and their families lives. If someone in your family lost their job and mommy can't buy you your videogames anymore I bet you'd be coming back and regretting your idiotic statements. Also you don't have any realization on what kind of economic impact this would have. People out of work = less people buying things = businesses lose profits and go downhill, and on and on. Grow up
I thought noone went on BlogPunch?
its actually a good idea assholes are getting what they deserved
How the fuck does a whole company that employs 90,000 people deserve to be destroyed for one oil spill. So what if they handled the situation badly? They were put under too much stupid media pressure because the media of today are fucking stupid. If the media didn't flame the Oil Spill incident so much, BP could of just cleaned it up with the help of volunteers. but no, the Media have to over-hype the shit like Swine-Flu, Bird-Flu and Y2K and many other similar things and give a negative image of BP. If enough people volunteered to clean up, it could be spotless by Christmas.
Big companies like BP shouldn't be shut down as they have a major impact on the economy of places, if BP were to be shut down, a fuck-tonne of jobs would be lost in the EU and many other places, we're still recovering from a recession, it would be an economic nightmare and then even more people would lose their jobs and then the country would go bankrupt like Greece and then everything would fall to pieces.
Do you not see the huge repercussions of shutting down such a major company?
Huh? No. BP has lost something like 90 minutes of profit on this spill so far. The spill was paid for before it ever happened.
I don't think so. Every company has its limits.
I feel bad for the fishermen/women. :C
Also, fishes.
This is a fucking stupid idea. Let them clean up the fucking oil and move on, it was a god damn mistake! Maybe the oil would be cleared by now if everyone had stopped fucking throwing their shit at BP and actually helped clean it up.

I half agree with you. It was BP's fault in the sense that they cut corners in order to save money, which led to the accident. However, I do agree that everyone should concentrate on working together in order to clean up the mess instead of bitching at BP. Yes, it is BP's fault and yes, they should be bitched at - but after the mess has been cleaned up. The environment is suffering while men in suits point fingers and shout at each other.
Anyone saying we deserved it is an absoloute cunt. We deserve an oil giant collapsing and causing us to become BELOW a third world country?

The stupid pecentage of the American population have a habit of acting like this is all new.
Oil spills happen all the fucking time in the rest of the world.
Same happened with 9/11 they acted like terrorists have ever attacked anyone before.
Oil is repugnant shite that personally is one of the worst things in the world along with radiation, bullets, war, and jeremy kyle.

Really hope they don't shut down, not because I like the company, but because of all the little guys working for them, we're in a metric fuckton of economic trouble all over the world, don't need to tack BP falling onto that.
The Obama administration has been doing quite a bit to ensure that BP can't shut down, out of fear that they would declare bankruptcy and transfer assets to some other company to avoid being responsible for the cleanup.
@Omali
Oh... I love Obama... He seems to be the only american president in recent years who isn't a complete pisshead

You do realize that if BP collapses, a major part of england's economy and self-sufficeny does too? We'd be plunged into a worse recession and might even take america down with us.

Enjoy living without titanium for the next 20 years if BP goes under.
BP is a great company. I don't see why so many hate them.
BP is a great company. I don't see why so many hate them.
Without them we wouldn't have as wide an amount of automobiles as we do today. We would all still be riding carriages to save money on gasoline. Theoretically, that is, if their oil was literally inexistant.
[editline]03:06PM[/editline]
Not to mention if BP folds a large amount of oil for england will dissapear. We'll be fucked
I am mad that our oil prices are almost double what America's are, and we do not complain half as much.
Well there is still Shell and Petronas
It's because we're not exactly a major oil power.

Hey! I'm sure there will be no economic issues caused by a massive MNC collapsing at a time where economies are quite fragile!
You don't want to see BP die.
People saying "BP should collapse" is fucking stupid.
Let's all pay higher oil prices!

Royal Dutch is bigger than BP.
What needs to happen because of this is not the collapse of BP, but much more stringent regulations, and the need to have better safety measures in place. One such things should have to be a second wellhead already nearly drilled out before any operations can take place, so it can be turned into a relief well in a matter of days, not months.
Also, it may do some good to split BP in half, and replace the management, this way you have less economic repercussions, and a good shakedown of the company, and those responsible will be properly held accountable.
I hope if BP goes under that Britain isn't affected to heavily. Britain doesn't deserve to be pulled under with BP.
