That'll stop criminals for sure!
I know that you're not this lucky in the US, but here in Denmark guns aren't needed. And is it actually shown that guns prevent crimes? Sure, people wouldn't be able to defend themselves, but would the situation escalate to the point where they are needed, if people didn't have guns? Generally thieves are interested in the loot, not the people - if they aren't in danger of being shot upon, would they even bring a gun? And even if they did, would they use it?
Our schools (especially Harford County's shitty school system) does not even bother informing the students basic gun regulations and safety. I still believe there should be a required class for basic safety with weapons and other tools which pose a threat to yourself and others. Hell, put it in one of those damn technology classes that is required for us to graduate.
Dude, Harford County schools aren't bad. I graduated from Fallston. Aside from the drug use that plagues every school, it was perfectly fine. Almost better than PA where I grew up for most of my life.
This is exactly why I like living in the UK, a person having that much weaponry in their house is fucking ridiculous, what happens if their mental health deteriorates? what's stopping them from picking up a gun and going on a spree? The UK stops this problem before it even begins.
So then they take a knife instead. Ban knives! So then they use their car. Ban cars! So then they use a rock. Ban rocks! And then they use their bare hands. Ban people! [editline]3rd June 2012[/editline]
I have to wonder what kind of neighborhood you live in where you have an army base of a house.
It's not the neighborhood, its the goddamn City. Look up Rockford Illinois next time you have the chance.

I think we can all agree on that knives are generally less lethal (and more needed in the day to day life) than guns. I really question your mental capacity if you seriously think that is a way to refute an argument.
I really question your mental capacity if you seriously think that is a way to refute an argument.
Well that's a great way to have someone pay attention to your side, isn't it?
It's not the neighborhood, its the goddamn City. Look up Rockford Illinois next time you have the chance.
According to what I could find on first page of google it's not to bad?
According to what I could find on first page of google it's not to bad?
Your chances of being a victim of a violent crime in Rockford are 1 in 67, you have a 1 in 19 chance of being burgled, last year there were 21 murders, 110 rapes, 495 robberies and 1,646 assaults. Rockford has a population of 152,870. It's just fine and dandy here.
Well that's a great way to have someone pay attention to your side, isn't it?
Whatever dumb shit I might write, you still manage not to pose an actual argument. Taking small (and insignificant) parts out of a comment and then trying to attack the credibility of the poster, is generally also a sign of that you really don't have that much to say about the actual argument.

I don't know exactly why I made the "Ban Everything" comment, and I apologize for doing so.

I kinda understand that my concept wouldn't apply there, but it could be a thought-experiment. What if you enforced very strict gun control? Would the amount of murders fall? H

I'd argue that as few guns as possible would be more effective at preventing robberies and murders, than a place where guns are fairly easily accessible. [editline]3rd June 2012[/editline]
Illinois has extremely strict gun control, actually.
I mean: what of they tried to get rid of every weapon in town and started from scratch? Illinois is of course not an isolated city, and it would probably be pretty hard to circumvent so much in such a short time, but it's food for thought, I guess.

Unless you live in a place like Rockford, you don't need a ton of different guns for self-defense. Many gun owners in the states use firearms for recreation, such as hunting, skeet, target or trick. There are, of course, owners who keep their guns close and warrant that they would only use them in self defense. I guess its all up to the owner. Even if it was effective for some odd reason, it would be damn near impossible for the US government to enforce. There would be way too many people in a shitstorm over it.

Beyond that, the fact that you're insulting the guy for disagreeing with you makes you a pretentious fuck with your assumed superior ideology.
The difference is these things aren't specifically designed to kill people
Specifically? A lot of guns are used for hunting and stuff like ranges and clay pigeons.
Why was there even a firearms around the young kid in the first place, If I had a gun i'd make sure it was completely out of the way and hidden.
So then they take a knife instead. Ban knives! So then they use their car. Ban cars! So then they use a rock. Ban rocks! And then they use their bare hands. Ban people!
kids like guns more than all those things. That's a fact.
Specifically? A lot of guns are used for hunting and stuff like ranges and clay pigeons.
Maybe I shouldn't have limited the description to 'people', but nevertheless they are instruments designed to kill. Sport came later
Oh look another death that wouldn't have happened if America would stop living in the 18th century owning guns. They aren't fun, not for a hobby, sport or anything. They're for police and military and that's all. When will that backwards country learn..

I'm sorry wherever you're from put the silly idea in your head that guns are tools used for only bad things.
They aren't fun, not for a hobby, sport or anything.
because nobody has opinions i could say the same thing about golf or major league wall painting or something but somebody enjoys it
that guns are tools used for only bad things
If by bad things you mean killing then yes that's exactly what guns were designed to do. Just because people decided they could be used for fun it doesn't eradicate that initial purpose and capability
because nobody has opinions i could say the same thing about golf or major league wall painting or something but somebody enjoys it
While his post is incredibly flawed, wall painting and golf generally don't kill people, even in the wrong hands.
While his post is incredibly flawed, wall painting and golf generally don't kill people, even in the wrong hands.
that doesn't have anything to do with the fact that they're used (often) for sport and fun, i wasn't denying that guns do, in fact, have the capacity to kill people (or rather the wielders of said guns but that's an entirely separate conversation), and i don't think anyone here is denying that
If by bad things you mean killing then yes that's exactly what guns were designed to do. Just because people decided they could be used for fun it doesn't eradicate that initial purpose and capability
Well of course that's what they were designed to do in the past, and of course the capability is there. But if someone is going to start acting like they're only to kill other people and that there are no other practical uses for them, I'm going to point out how wrong that idea is. They're no longer used for only bad things, and I'm willing to bet that the amount of good they do here in the states outnumbers the amount of violent crimes. Yes they were designed to shoot and kill someone, but we're long, long past the time that that was their only use and judging them on that old idea is a bit silly.
