The fact they've publicised it means they will give some to charity, probably a few million to various different trusts. But for the most part they will be pumping the money back into the company to make more money. Once the shareholders have skimmed off their bonuses of course.
It's starting soon, hopefully they will be funding something that will inspire people.

If apple actually built something like this, as in something that would help the environment or in some other way be an enormous benefit for mankind. Apple would become so much cooler.
Because they're one of the few companies with so much cash that they could do something like that (with the help of others of course).
