"We are happy to announce that we are going to use this money to resurrect Steve"
That's just $45 billion, though. Not even half. What of the other $55?
In my opinion? They'll probably just sit on it. You can't go wrong with massive, fully liquid cash reserves.
Just ask Lehman Brothers.
I wonder what would happen if they took a plane above New York City/Atlanta/LA/Ect. and dropped 1 billion in $100 bills
Lots of murders.
No thread on what they did yet?
I heard dividends and stock buy back, not too exciting.

exactly this.
apple could go on with this money without selling a single iphone or ipad or anything for a good couple of years
I'm sure they'll spend the money on something new and revolutionary.
PFFFT, haha, no, they'll just release another iPhone and iPad that's exactly the same but repackaged and continue milking the cows.
They will build a giant temple apple store shaped like an apple the size of the great pyramids.

either that or they could make a solid diamond statue of steve jobs.

He's got a point. With the dosh Apple currently have, they could be doing what their fans think they do and start innovating. They could be researching new technologies to be used in the computing industry for the benefit of everybody. Better batteries, better touchscreens (MS may have beaten them to this is they can get their 1ms delay tech into a device), audio, visual and haptic technologies. If they want to push mobile computing, they should actually put effort into making it something more than it is currently.

And not just restrict it to themselves (who am I kidding, of course they will!).

Now we know where all their products come from.
They will put Steve Jobs in a Mac.
FOR SCIENCE.

you're not supposed to go poop facing the wall
Apple is the most valuable company in the world because of more than just having a bunch of "sheep" and suing people all the time.
Granted, Apple does have it fanboys, and they do sue a lot of people, but you can't attribute their amazing success to that.
yes, literally the worst thing that can be done with that money is giving ipads to schools.
That is one of the worst things.
"Literally the worst thing" would be like, using that money to make robots that find adopted children and tell them they're adopted. Or that kill orphans. Or that tell adopted children they're adopted while killing orphans.
They should FINALLY make a minigun that makes you a blog and updates your killcount.
No, no, I know, I know.
Make iBlewUpTheMoon.
Now.
So what was it?
They are going to copyright the color white.
Seriously, this is a lot of money so they should choose wisely how to spend them.
So what was it?

Apple has said it will use its cash to start paying a dividend to shareholders and to buy back some of its shares.

Wow, how... boring of them.
But hey, a half-trillion dollar corporation is never going to do anything crazy.
It's going to be the Apple science enrichment center
scientific testing for the greater good
With Steve jobs' audio recordings encouraging his workers in their search for science even after death and everything
and to top it all, everything will be managed by a Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System based on Siri
