There's laws against this type of thing?
Defrauding people out of their entrance fees to the awards, by means of one entrant having a distinct and unfair advantage? Who knew.
This just in, Phil Fish could be a nazi alien ghost
Holy shit did you guys hear?! This news article said Phil Fish was literally a nazi alien ghost!!
So is the FBI actually involved in this whole mess now somehow?
It's only been speculated
This annoys me.
Things certainly must be looking grim for poor Fish however, whom if found guilty will be facing a $25,000 fine and 20 year prison sentence for each count.

tbh it should only really apply if it comes down to like governmental affairs, but when its someprivate company and all that i dont see why the government should get involved.
Because fraud is illegal.
is there any proof of FBI's involvement? have they said anything or are they talking out of their ass
There's laws against this type of thing? As scummy as it is to manipulate the awards like that, legal action isn't really justified
actually legal action is justified because you have to pay to be a part of the competitions
Cant wait for this to explode and flood all the news outlets again.
is there any proof of FBI's involvement? have they said anything or are they talking out of their ass
The FBI has been informed from what has been said by those who found this information. At this stage the FBI won't say shit, they don't give typical police reports and such, so you likely may not hear much from them for a while, either until they're far in to it, or things like search warrants are being executed.
There's laws against this type of thing? As scummy as it is to manipulate the awards like that, legal action isn't really justified
are you seriously kidding me? it'd be unjustified if legal action WASN'T taken. [editline]9th September 2014[/editline] theft isn't any less bad just because someone got caught before they did it, that's asinine. "oh you were trying to steal but we caught you so it's ok now".
This annoys me.
How does it feel to know that you, as a finn, have better English in that regard than the vast majority of natives? [sp]Of course, you're cheating because Finnish has like a million cases and it's second nature to you.[/sp]
maybe some time in prison will teach him to not be a fucking ass to his fans and end up fucking everyone over. i hope he sucks lots of dick in prison
is there any proof of FBI's involvement? have they said anything or are they talking out of their ass
The FBI requested a few IGF corruption videos to be pulled in order to prevent a compromise in the investigation, I think.
The FBI requested a few IGF corruption videos to be pulled in order to prevent a compromise in the investigation, I think.
The videos were pulled but the only explanation has been that they are talking to lawyers. I don't think the FBI are in the habit of telling everyone who is being investigated until they actually have to.
Even with how much i dislike phil, i dont think he should go to jail for TWENTY years for that.
To put it in to perspective Fez apparently sold at least a million copies. If Fish gamed the system to get those sales and the undoubtedly massive pile of money he received from it, you can see how this is a way bigger problem than him just being a shithead.
Even with how much i dislike phil, i dont think he should go to jail for TWENTY years for that.
Agreed, he should be locked up for at least forty.
Is the source not loading for anyone else?
Poor Phil, shouldn't have been a dick, maybe karma would have been kinder.
Anyone else notice that the source links redirect to Google?
Is the source not loading for anyone else?
And I was already beaten to the punch.
Oh man this will be glorious if true. There's no doubt that Phil will drag others down with him.
Thread title should be "Based on an accusation by an internet personality with no formal legal training, Phil Fish could be charged with..."
Thread title should be "Based on an accusation by an internet personality with no formal legal training, Phil Fish could be charged with..."
Its like you can't read 'could'.
i knew something was fishy
Take that, you narcissist hipster. More popcorn, please.
can I get a link to the source that works? the one in OP just redirects me to google.
Thread title should be "Based on an accusation by an internet personality with no formal legal training, Phil Fish could be charged with..."
But gaming is a 10 billion dollar industry, you're on a gaming forum, the FBI doesn't have anything more important to worry about than a rigged obscure gaming festival, etc. etc.
Its like you can't read 'could'.
Yeah, a minor game developer who hardly matters in the grand scheme of things 'could' be prosecuted by the FBI. Obama 'could' be impeached. Apple 'could' go bankrupt tomorrow. These are all things within the realm of possibility, if you ask amateurs with no real experience on the subjects. It's not legitimate to take that kind of possibility and present it as credible (and likely) news.
Even with how much i dislike phil, i dont think he should go to jail for TWENTY years for that.
its 20 years for each count, he could be gone for longer than 20 years
Indie games are the worst part of the industry. There are good ones, but the entire subsection is too volatile
