Dual source: Obama administration issuing new deepwater drilling ban

I'd normally have a beef with something like this, but seeing as how it's only temporary, it doesn't seem too bad.
On the other hand, this could have a negative effect on our oil supply. Short term of course.
We're not Canada or Norway.
That's not a good reason not to take such safety measures.
In fact, that's an absolutely moronic reason not to take such safety measures.

American exceptionalism. America does it best, and america is the best.
/retardation.
My biggest problem is that we could loose a shitload of money on this.
As opposed to losing an entire coastline? I'd say that's a fair trade

Don't you know anything TH89? Money is better than anything and everything ever.

Well you have to think about in the long term. Just because one rig had a problem doesn't mean one of the other some 3000 rigs will. As much as I would like to loose our dependency on oil shutting it down will be a huge mistake, even temporarily. Oil companies simply wont run idol rigs and will sell them off. Once the moratorium is lifted, we will have lost a large number of rugs and jobs in the oil industry. Thousands, If not millions of people along the coastline are in this industry and loosing jobs on a mass scale wont be good for them ether.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Lets get hydrogen and nuclear all up in this bitch.

Just buy more coastline from Russia.
I'm not saying I don't support some kind of regulations, just not this. As a future marine biologist what this spill has done as sickened and infuriated me, but we don't just drill this shit for kicks.
Broke my automerge.

they ain't using their northern coast at all. prime real estate
I think reading Ragy's posts made me dumber.

This thread is nothing for that.
Are you on drugs? The United States ≠ Norway or Canada. There's a reason we have been the top country.
top country in what? prison population?
The United States is the top country in my opinion. The achievements which have been made
One important achivement in american to the next. Basing a country on achivements is retarded. Josef Mengele made a few important medical advancements, does that mean he was a good guy?
our economy
it's in shambles
top medical research
That would be Ireland and France
opportunity
you have a massive unemployement rate and a massive poverty line. Oppurtunity? not much.
democracy
lol
technology
That would be Japan and Germany
freedom and rights
unless you're gay, under 18, not white, poor and Christian
etc... It goes on. The United States has been the big kid on the block and will be for some time. It's all just a matter of opinion.
The big doofy bully on the block that ran away from his rich upper class father.

you do have highest murders, prison population and infant mortality rate, that's for sure.
You don't need to keep issuing two links per news posting.
You're actually inadvertently acknowledging Fox New by showing that they're covering something just the same as a more liberal network.
Amusing, given your attitude towards them.
As for the topic itself, I don't agree with a drilling ban. This will just potentially shift where the spills will happen, invariably still allowing for damage should another spill happen elsewhere. And really, I don't think it's a good idea further enslaving our fuel supply to another country. Think of the potential for abuse.
dude glaber, you just got called out by jenkem
ice cold
Drilling is safe.
not really, accidents happen quite a bit
Stop right there, do you even know my attitude towards Fox News?

I love the US a lot too. I was born in Canada and have duel citzenship. But I prefer the US. However, we have a lot of drawbacks. We are not the best. I can't explain why I love the US, that's just silly patriotism. But dude, holy shit you are digging yourself a hole deeper than the oil wells we should be talking about instead of this.
what is it about patriotism that blinds people? What is the appeal to ignore the bad and blindly love something. something as mediocre and shitty as the us
Depends on what kind of achievement it is. Nationalism is extremely powerful, it's what brought Germany to what it was. If the people love their country, the country will do well and achieve much. You can have a high quality of life, but if people don't actually love their country and believe in it, it's not what it can be.
nationalism also killed my great aunt and her children along with 6 million others.
