People defending the invasion are wrong because they are trying to defend something that should never have happened in the first place. There are no reasons for us to make excuses for political blunders that took place 40 years ago in the name of defending your countries honor or something silly like that.
Agreed. I was just confused considering that the majority in this thread seemed to be against the invasion.
Agreed. I was just confused considering that the majority in this thread seemed to be against the invasion.
Much of the U.S. Foreign policy back then involved supporting fascist dictatorships that usually involved having the Communists, i.e. 'poor workers, farmers, and oppressed civilians' which pretty much means the entire 90% of the population fighting against the current regime. Cuba's former government was the Batista regime. We pretty much just gave guns to fascists just so they can murder civilians that were labeled as Commies.
Its interesting how they are still using those 40s beetles
The fact they can keep them running says to me that there is a huge untapped wealth of automotive experts in Cuba
Yeah, because for some reason the US canceled the air support the Cuban rebels needed...
Even if the rebels had succeeded, the Cuban people would be against their government. US foreign interventions against popular leftist governments have a history of failure.
It's funny to think that despite the hatred between the US and Cuba, Guantanamo bay has never been annexed or invaded
you need to read up on your history we used to basically own cuba and we sold it back in the early 1900's one of the conditions was Guantanamo Bay was to always be owned by the US
Even if the rebels had succeeded, the Cuban people would be against their government. US foreign interventions against popular leftist governments have a history of failure.
what about Chile? they're now the most prosperous country in south america
[img_thumb]http://img818.imageshack.us/img818/5644/vietnam.png[/img_thumb]
Bomb the fuck out of civilians with expensive ordinance, claim to be victorious. [editline]17th April 2011[/editline]
what about Chile? they're now the most prosperous country in south america
lol, no they're not.
Bomb the fuck out of civilians with expensive ordinance, claim to be victorious.
Your country is not so innocent it's self, is it?
lol, no they're not.
They have the highest HDI in South America but that definitely isn't due to Pinochet or the U.S. it's because the Chilean people rose against Pinochet. [editline]16th April 2011[/editline]
It would have just made it an even greater failure for the US.
Had the rebels succeeded in overthrowing Castro and establishing their own government that wasn't a mob run totalitarian state dominated by U.S. corporations like it was before Castro it wouldn't have been but that would probably never had happened. No matter what, it's still a shitty situation for the Cuban people because it went from a totalitarian Spanish colony to a totalitarian U.S. puppet to a totalitarian Castro dictatorship. I hope in the future they manage to do what Chile and Argentina did and successfully end the cycle of shittiness. The Cuban Communist Party has done some good things in the ways of healthcare and education but human rights and corruption are horrible.
Your country is not so innocent it's self, is it?
Of course it isn't, how is that even relevant? If this had been a thread about China, I would've said the same thing. If this was a thread about Britain I would have called it out for their crimes, if this was a thread about Russia I would call them out on their crimes. Crimes of another dont justify the crimes of someone else. [editline]17th April 2011[/editline]
They have the highest HDI in South America but that definitely isn't due to Pinochet or the U.S. it's because the Chilean people rose against Pinochet.
Generally "prosperous" refers to wealth. And Brazil is miles better than Chile at that department.
"He dislikes america, must be a retard".
One person on this forum said he'd rather defect to North Korea than live in the US completely earnestly. Not everyone who dislikes America does so rationally.
One person on this forum said he'd rather defect to North Korea than live in the US completely earnestly. Not everyone who dislikes America does so rationally.
Not everyone who dislikes the US does so irrationally either, and taking him seriously is extremely naive. [editline]17th April 2011[/editline] And people too often think that when a person dislikes the US he does so because it's hip to hate on it, and whilst I do not deny that such people do roam these forums, they're hardly the majority. The most they ever do is rate a couple of posts dumb and leave the thread fearing their piss poor baseless argument might get torn apart by actual statistics and facts. [editline]17th April 2011[/editline] And I dont hate America for its people, I dislike the US for its government, and the decisions they make. There is a huge difference.
This better not ruin my vacation. Going to Havana in two weeks.
Why would it do such a thing? It happened 50 years ago.
you need to read up on your history we used to basically own cuba and we sold it back in the early 1900's one of the conditions was Guantanamo Bay was to always be owned by the US what about Chile? they're now the most prosperous country in south america
are you justifying pinochet? lol vive cuba
what about Chile? they're now the most prosperous country in south america
First, by GDP per capita, Chile is definitely not the most prosperous country in South America. Secondly, would you use economic well-being to justify Pinochet's crimes against humanity? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chile_under_Pinochet#Human_rights_violations
Now I feel like playing Tropico
