Yes, it's a pre-order incentive, but there's nothing wrong with it. Valve is a business and their entire existence is based around selling games. To not make an effort to get L4D2 sales would be to deny their very existence. :v:

Why? The halo situation was very different from this. The reason people were split between "sides" back then was because not having a halo branded you a cheater and many people felt that they weren't cheaters. There was also no way to obtain a halo other than not being a "cheater" in the first place.
This hat doesn't brand anyone anything; it's just a fun gift for people who pre-ordered L4D2. Everyone can pre-order L4D2, so it doesn't separate anyone from anyone else.

I hope the first point was sarcasm. As for your second, a "wall of text" is a huge chunk of text that isn't separated into paragraphs. I make sure to break mine up quite a bit. It's very readable if your attention span is longer than one minute.

I don't really play TF2 much anymore, so I still don't regret buying it retail.
