Can't wait to play Zelda on it
So it appears that this isn't true:
Today a rumor sparked on NeoGAF, based on the allegation that Nikkei claimed that the price of Nintendo’s upcoming console Switch will be 25,000 yen (About $214). Several websites, including many specializing on Nintendo news, immediately took it as confirmed news or a reliable rumor, and posted it as such.
Unfortunately, this is false: Nikkei is indeed reliable when it actually claims something, being the online arm of the Nikkei Shinbun, one of Japan’s most prominent newspapers. Yet, they made no claim whatsoever to have any firm awareness of the Switch’s price point.
The rumor is based on a misinterpretation of the publicly available excerpt of Nikkei’s article, probably misunderstood due to using Google Translator or similar machine translation sources. Actually translating both the excerpt or the full piece (which is available via free registration giving access to ten full articles as month) reveals the mistake.
The article is titled “Nintendo: Focus Price 25,000 yen,” and it belongs to the “Reporter’s Eye” column, which is dedicated to speculation and analysis. It’s not news, nor a rumor. Basically, it’s just the opinion and speculation of the writer.
Aw man. Hopefully it's around that price range anyway.
I can imagine Nintendo biting their nails when they have people going like "yeah 200 euro is just about as much i wanna give for this" while they are planning to sell this for 400 euro :smug:

That price was obviously BS to begin with.
We're talking about a revolutionary modern console/handheld hybrid, attempting things that nobody in their right mind has attempted before in this industry, and they're ONLY charging $200?
Isn't this thing supposed to be able to compete with the PS4 and XBone? I just CAN'T believe that for a measly $200. I mean its Nintendo, so it will probably be cheaper than the competition, but holy shit that sounds too good to be true.
My local store is selling switch preorders for 6000 nok ($700) currently. Is this legal?

They were doing pre orders at a local store as well, 500 euro for the PS4 while it was 400 on release. They refunded 100 euro to everyone who pre-ordered so i guess that your local store might do that as well

Ah ok, that's probably it. I thought I was going crazy when I saw local Gamestop taking preorders for $1200.

I'm still thinking the $300 estimate is going to be spot on. With a tegra and such + the dock and controllers $300-350 seems pretty fair.

It's common.
Basically they set a really high preorder price, but that's just because they don't know the actual price yet.
The price you'd actually pay wouldn't be 6000.
Looks like I'm not getting a switch
because I fucking won't be able to
I'll be legit angry with Nintendo if they pull another NES Classic bullshit (and pre-orders disappear as soon as they appear because of bots).
I think that's the plan, since the pirates finally got to it
You can hack the 3DS on current firmware to run pirated games in about 2.5 hours
2.5 hours is more like the old double downgrade method.
You can do an OTPless A9LH install on the latest fw (11.2.0 as of this post) in about 5 minutes. I mean sure you have the ~1% brick chance but still its fast af. If you do the safe downgrade method it'll take about 40 minutes.
And once you have custom firmware and ARM9LoaderHax installed, it's unpatchable. The entry point starts before the OS even boots.
Nintendo could brick any console with A9LH installed with a new firmware update if they really wanted to. You can brick someone with just userland arm11 homebrew by sending bad instructions to the MCU. Hell they could just fill your keysector with garbage and you're never gonna be able to boot again without a hardmod.
CFW patches would come out within a day or two to stub the bricking code but it would still catch anyone who updated blindly.
Pack it up boys, it's a case of bad translation

Afaik, Nintendo can't do jack shit about A9LH 3ds's, I haven't heard anything line that recently.
If the latest Giant Bombcast is right, Nintendo ATM is slowly killing the 3DS by not sending enough to retailers to match demand.
Wow, that sucks. I'll be moving into a small dorm soon and was planning to make my 3DS my main gaming platform. The switch isn't exactly as handheld or nice to have in such a place.
So will the Switch be a Current or Next gen console? We're only 2 years away from having the same time distance that we had between 7th and 8th gen consoles.
For Nintendo's standard, it's Next Gen console.

The 3DS is pretty cheap at the moment and it is currently my favorite platform to game on. It still is worth the investment and the games are getting cheap as well.
Hell... Majora's Mask, Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time and Animal Crossing would set you up for like 3 months of gaming

Ok now I feel old.
I still remember the Advance coming out thinking it was the baddest assest shit.

I already have one though, more worried about future games not being released.

Hm well then i guess that it is ending soonish, especially when the Switch will become their new handheld successor. Put custom firmware on it and then you can throw emulators on it, its really a perfect device for SNES games and such
get me some n64 games on there and I'll bite hard.
Virtual console is going to be such a massive selling point with this, it's such a dream but if it has every major NES, SNES, N64 and GameCube all at relatively affordable prices that'll push me over the edge to getting this on launch.

You poor naive man, you'll take your drip-feed of three games a week and you'll be grateful for them not starting from scratch again.

Yeah, I'm not expecting decent virtual console, but it really would be an amazing and they've totally got the opportunity.
It also:
- isn't portable
- doesn't have a touch screen
- doesn't have a battery
- is twice as big
This is also nintendo we're talking about.
They have enough money stored up they have no issue with selling the console at a loss, and they'll make it back with super mario party + LOZ + mario kart.

They claim it wont be sold at a loss:

People are starting to turn against her because she leaks literally every bit of information she gets regarding Nintendo, the question is, why should we as consumers mind?

That's really weird. I like her because she helps better inform me as a consumer to make better purchasing decisions that give me more bang for my buck by giving me details on products I am interested in (PS4 Slim comes to mind).

She basically keeps blacklisting herself from companies, just to get us info. Not sure why people hate her for it, it's a dumb move, but it sucks for her and the companies, we're the people who benefit from it.
