I'm agreeing with Chantz, we adapted to be inside an atmosphere and we adapted to this gravity.
And we can adapt to space as well.
We can adapt to space with no issues really, the problem arises after spending too long in space and then wanting to come back to earth or any other significant gravity well.
We can't do it immediately, but over time, of course.
The thing is after being in space for too long bones lose moneral content and become weaker, muscle mass decreases cause in space you don't need to work against gravity anywhere near as much as you do on earth so the body just eats away at itself, it's fine if you intend to live in space forever but otherwise you're kaboned.
Man, i just can't imagine how disappointing it would be if the first people to fly to the mars would die because of something weird like this.
fook yeah, I'd rather be torn up by zerg ultralisk on mars than get blind because of some stoopid pressure booh :( BE A SPACEFARING MAN, DIE LIKE A MAN, MAN!
On the front page of Facepunch the shortened link said 'Astronaut feels space'
But... what causes this, exactly? The lack of gravity? could be solved easily with the "spinning ring" ship design, for example. Pressure changes could be fixed if they pinpointed what the pressure is doing to us, etc.
we're not meant to be in space
Were not meant to go into the ocean either but every day millions enjoy beaches. Human technology opens up our habitat to worlds that would otherwise be dangerous or toxic. Most animals have one habitat and one habitat only. Humans live on all Longitudes of the earth with ease because we can make coats for cold weather and air conditioning for hot weather. We don't have gills or flippers and yet we have mastered the seas. We will find our way into space in due time.
We will find our way into space in due time.
I'm going to actually use the optimistic rating as intended since I don't think humanity will be around long enough to establish a permanent presence in space we'll be bickering over the cost of it right up until the end
Maybe time to create artificial gravity then. I still can't understand why they haven't added such a module to ISS yet.
maybe because constantly swapping out astronauts with costly shuttle launches is safer and far cheaper than trying to mount a giant centrifuge to a space station
"Female space travelers have not been affected." Suddenly all future astronauts are women.
Zero G lesbian action oh yeah.
we're not meant to be in space
Human stubbornness is a powerful thing, this won't stop us. We shall take space
