What the hell is a TV license? Does that apply if you have a TV or what? What if you use TV to play consoles on it? Do you still have to pay?
Virtually every nation has a tv and radio license which is paid by owners of a tv and is used to fund public programs like the BBC or whatever national one you have.
Kinda surprised to see cable TV go out of fashion. On the other hand, I knew it was coming soon or later. As far as I know, watching live TV in the Netherlands is still in fashion. But on the other hand, I've use to have a cable run to the TV in my bedroom, but I never used it and I took it out because there wasn't enough space to run another LAN cable through. I don't even miss it. I only watch TV downstairs with my parents after 9:30 PM, or sometimes when I'm having a quick meal.
legitimately baffled that there are countries that do this sort of shit
Yes, we also have this. However, our government also tried to implent it on computers because its possible to watch TV shows over Internet. It's really retarded that they have this system. I never watch SVT and I'm not willing to pay some shitty license so Britt-Marie 87 can watch her shitty morning show.
We had the TV license man come around recently. He didn't believe that we all just used Netflix, and so had to check all the TVs in the house weren't connected up to the aerial (which is standard procedure). But the odd thing was, he seemed surprised when I suggested TV might be going out of fashion
But what does all the furniture point at?
I'd have cable if I didn't have to pay out the ass for one channel that's in a higher package. To watch the Premier League in America you have to have NBC Sports which is often an upper tier package.
But what does all the furniture point at?
The TV that's used to stream stuff.
I use my TV only to watch porn on the big screen. Haven't watched TV itself literally for ages.
We use the TV all the time, my girlfriend mostly for Good Morning Britain, we watch I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here and XFactor but that's mostly it, unless there's a right good film on for christmas or something. If there's something specifically we wanna watch though, I just stream it. Still, we don't pay TV Licensing because they can't figure out where our address is, it doesn't exist to them (It's a self-built cottage) so that's nice.
Virtually every nation has a tv and radio license which is paid by owners of a tv and is used to fund public programs like the BBC or whatever national one you have.
No we don't. You only pay "license" if you want cable.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_licence#United_Kingdom
I've always found that to be a particularly stupid law. Yeah, I have a TV. Yeah, I have a dish. Yeah, I watch TV on it. No, I don't watch the BBC, I watch free channels on a satellite that anyone can connect to. Why THE FUCK do I have to pay?
Usually as soon as you sign up to Sky/Virgin Media you get a letter asking for it, that's what happened in my last house anyway.

- The invention of the internet. - 102 channels .. but nothing to watch. - The News/weather are now send live to the computer and most handheld-devices. The computer have basic taken over what the TV did in the early days .. just like how the TV took over the radio.

I don't watch TV but most of the content I watch is from TV programs.

of course the daily like these goons bugging people. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2587588/7-000-homes-block-visits-TV-licence-enforcers-Growing-numbers-taking-advantage-legal-loophole-means-threaten-sue-collectors-tresspass.html
My great evening today: -Don't pay license they said, -Nobody checks they said. *Knock* Knock - "Hello do you have a TV license?" Me: "No, I don't have TV" Inspector: "Mind if I check your house for a TV set?" Me: "Go ahead." - let him in. Inspector: "Okay all clear thank you". That was a visit at 9 PM. Up to today I only heard rumors they catch you out when you're at home. Thank god I don't have TV. However - I am not saying I don't want one, when I get job and move to my own place I would buy a 50" Smart TV as soon as I have a chance. There is just something about having TV and being able to click through shitty channels :v:
I only watch movies or play games on my TV, current programmes are so boring.
If it was possible to watch AFL (Australian Rules Football) on my computer (without using a dodgy streaming website) Live I would have no use for a TV.
Usually as soon as you sign up to Sky/Virgin Media you get a letter asking for it, that's what happened in my last house anyway.
Then you send a letter back/call them up saying you have no TV.
Then you send a letter back/call them up saying you have no TV.
I think it was something small like £5p/m or something but yeah, I'd do that if one suddenly turned up now.
If a license costs 145pounds/y then it pretty much is a subscription. That's what, ~12/mo? Why not go unshady and ask for a subscription instead of all these pedo goons and extortion?
I think it was something small like £5p/m or something but yeah, I'd do that if one suddenly turned up now.
I think it's closer to £12 a month, it's like £135 total over the year afaik well unless you're in a house share then I think it might be split
I think it's closer to £12 a month, it's like £135 total over the year afaik well unless you're in a house share then I think it might be split
ah yeah it was cause we split it
ah yeah it was cause we split it
Oh you mean 5 pounds. I thought you meant 5 pound pence which seemed like a good deal.
Easiest job in the world man, just imagine it. "I'm from the TV Licensing agency, tell me my right of access has been removed and not to come back." "Uh, your right of access has been removed?" "Great well you'll never be seeing me again, peace."
I haven't watched TV in years. I'd never dream of paying for cable. Over Thanksgiving I spent time with my family and at their house they would have the TV on all day, blaring commercials and edited programming and it was literally mind melting.
That's because if you have a TV you have to pay TV License, even if you never watch BBC. You by law have to pay for channels you never watch.
No you don't. You're only required to pay a license if you watch live broadcasts. Or recordings of live TV. You can literally own 1000 TVs and not pay a license so long as you dont watch live tv. Not that they can tell if you do anyway
