Ukraine rebels hand black boxes to Malaysian officials
For this the cockpit voice recorder would provide more useful info than the blackbox, since we are all but sure it was an external threat.
an airliner wouldn't be able to detect a missile being fired at it anyway, so I doubt that would be that much more useful
They probably handed it over because there's no incriminating evidence on it against them, so might as well look good and help international investigators.
So why IS it called a black box?
Because valve would have grounds to sue the airline industry and bankrupt them if they were called orange boxes
So why IS it called a black box?
Since it used to be black, they just called it the black box. They still keep the name because it is well known name in the world.
If you refer to Black Box, most people will think of the CVR's in planes
Do you think we should assume that if the investigation does not point towards the rebels that evidence must have been tampered with?
That would be rather irrational.
it would only be suspicious if parts of the wreckage was missing. that would indicate that there was an attempt at hiding evidence, otherwise it would be irrational to suspect. like, if major pieces of the hull were unaccounted for that would raise red flags.
So why IS it called a black box?
Haven't you heard? Orange is the new black.
Dude holding the recorder in that pic looks like a badass.
I can only sum premises and come to the conclussion that somehow the Ukranians fucked up hard.
If and only if the rebels had access to the recordings/info makes this conclussion somehow...realistic.
Think about, if you know this proves you blew a plane...why give it away...why not make them...."dissapear" such as if they were stolen
The blackbox will not (and cannot) prove who shot it down. The only thing it will be able to show is if it instantly exploded in mid air or fell from the sky mostly intact.
IMO, given the apparent debris field (another thing that investigators should have access to, but it seems its being cleaned up) I would assume it was destroyed in mid air.
Meanwhile, the Russian news outlets say that Ukranians have shot at the investigators, who were forced to return to rebels. The plot and propaganda thickens.

Source?
Looks like Canada's beefing up its sanctions. Russia will soon be starved of raw materials.
Russian source only, so bear with me:

Apparently as Malawian experts have arrived, Ukrain airforce bombed the road they were traveling upon. Experts were on their way to the crash.

And a citizen of Russia.
And a citizen of Russia.
A lot of ukranians have dual citizenship, as far as i know. Or do you mean that he has russian citizenship only?

The latter.

Also when something is "Black" it has a different sort of 'feel' to it if you get what I mean. It's catchy.
Recorded evidence is Blackmail.
When you record peoples phone numbers in a book it's a Little Black Book.
So Blackbox seems fitting.
Okay let's see what we got here
"никогда не собираюсь дать вас, никогда не собирается подведет, никогда не собирается бегать и пустыни вы"
"never going to give you, never going to to give up, never going to run and desert you"
cryptic russians strike again
Soo here's an interesting situation. Adding this up to a recent Russian Defence Ministry briefing (link to post, please read it before doing conclusions http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?p=45456619#post45456619), where they presented images that back up rebel's theory regarding Ukrainian jet in sky means that Rebels pretty much confident in their version.
Black boxes editing is out of question, i worked myself as ground handling supervizor at Vnukovo 3 airport an we had a lot of chat regarding topic with various techs and pilots - it's not like you can simply plug a blackbox in your usb drive and peek in in. You'd need special software and time input to decode stuff.
Here's a googled up english article regarding black boxes.
http://science.howstuffworks.com/transport/flight/modern/black-box.htm
As add up from myself, i don't think they would even try to open them up. Leaving marks on containers would raise suspicion even more.
Also, add this up with delayed departure of flight experts from Kiev, silence of Ukrainian Dispatchers regarding flight and few reports of continues bombing of villages surrounding crashsite this puts Ukrainian military in far more counterproductive sight.
Also, Refrigirator train is going to Harkov.

Wait, I thought those were called Yellow Pages... :v:
There's probably no information on who's responsible for the crash on it anyways so they just gave it back.
There's probably no information on who's responsible for the crash on it anyways so they just gave it back.
They would not be able to check that (seriously, i just explained that in post above)
Rebel's theory is based on jet's presence near plane. And as i wrote previously if there was jet then it would probably get mention in pilot's chatter. Every buk version just needs chatter to end abruptly without notice of missle.
Soo i'd say there going to be infromation one way or another.
There's probably no information on who's responsible for the crash on it anyways so they just gave it back.
The flight recorder takes in tonnes of data from every sensor on the aircraft. Luckily, there are ways to figure out what happened other than having a readout saying "Pro-russian missle inbound!!". You could, for example, hypothetically listen to noise from outside the aircraft to determine wether an explosion occured nearby and how far from the plane it happened.
Edit
Footnote: the Buk missle system detonates its missle some distance away from the target.
I wonder if they have the ability to modify the black box.
I hope it hasn't been tampered with.
Oh of course not.
Come on.
It says "do not open" there, how could they?
Dude holding the recorder in that pic looks like a badass.
He reminds me of Mike Ehrmantraut from Breaking Bad. This guy:

Yes it's just you

Can't see if it's satire or you actually did not read my post regarding black box.
Also, just reported:
Ukrainian military keeps bombing near crashsite
http://en.ria.ru/world/20140722/191102839/Ukrainian-Air-Force-Strikes-City-Located-in-Ceasefire-Zone.html
And two more news but not translated yet.
First is that Malayzian representatives confirmed that boxes not modificated
http://ria.ru/world/20140722/1017045333.html
And other is that boxes will be delivered to Britain for decoding (wich is both good and bad for unbias investigation when you think of it)
http://ria.ru/world/20140722/1017057680.html
Hope english articles will be up soon.
Also, Apparently train with bodies DID go to Donetsk first where Malayzian representatives checked it and only then was send to Harkov.
