Writer of comics reboot reveals Wonder Woman is gay
yeah i get that. i mean, i already gave superman as an example because lois lane is a part of superman as a character just as much as superman himself. but, ok, if DC announced aquaman wasn't grieving over his lost wife, but was actually grieving over his lost husband, how much does this change a god damn thing? it's superficial. i guess you can say "representation of gays!" but, like, what if aquaman wasn't originally gay? you're just forcing a gay skin on a not gay thing, and then wiping your hands and calling it a day. it's lazy and boring.
i get that a lot of it has to do with pandering but do superhero comic readers actually give a shit about this? is whether wonder woman is bi, gay, gender queer, identify as purple haired robot, etc actually engaging to the normal readers? i thought marvel lost a lot of money on pandering so why is this still a thing?
I'm just trying to address your question on why comics have relationships at all.
And as far as making a character gay in a reboot universe who generally isn't? I might be a bit miffed it affected one of those quintessential pairings, like Superman and Lois Lane or Green Arrow and Black Canary. For the relatively "unattached" heroes, though? Eh, whatever.
As dumb as it sounds, it does make things more interesting for some people. I wasn't much into comics but tried reading this once I found out that there were hints towards Harley and Poison Ivy being a thing:

Its not because I thought it was sexy, more so it was interesting to me (and really cute).
DC has a lot of gay and bisexual characters, they're just never made a big deal of unlike a certain other comic company.

Yes. Also into being dominated and suspended, which, not surprisingly made it into the comics quite a bit.
Marston thought his kids would be living in a matriarchal meritocracy, so towards that is what he wrote. Also lived with four women and was married to two of them, at the same time.

Not really even sure why this is news.

Are you trying to argue that this:

Isn't the best way to reveal a character's sexual orientation?

Brian Michael Bendis better fucking hope Ike Perlmutter lives forever because the day that dude croaks is the day Disney descends on Marvel like the wrath of god.
[editline]1st October 2016[/editline]
Not even Marvel Studios likes Marvel Comics btw.
Kevin Feige had to go to Bob Iger and request the creative committee, which consisted of Kevin and a few of the comic companies higher ups including Ike, be disassembled because they kept being duncecaps behind the scenes. Thats why the Inhumans movie got thrown under the bus so hard, it was Ike Perlmutters idea because he wanted X-Men back but he doesnt want to play nice with Fox.

Look at Civil War 2 sales and tell me how long Brian Michael Bendis has left until they fire him.
Finally. And I don't think DC is going to pick him up, so he's basically toast.
William Marston, the creator of Wonder Woman, is a fucking crazy figure. He was a major supporters of the feminist movement before the 40s, and thought that comic books could help educate young people, and created wonder woman as a result.
But at the same time, he was a polygamist, and quite an asshole to his wives. His kids hated him.

the mainline Batman title sells at minimum three times the amount Civil War 2 does.

N-No! B-But Ultimate Spider-Man!
Also, Bendis writes for the tv show too.
What's considered Marvel's prime in the modern age (Post 80s)? I'm interested in picking up some Spider-Man stuff in particular but I kinda wanna avoid the shit needless to say.

I believe the original Ultimate Spiderman in the 2000s was considered good? I'm not a comic book fan but IIRC that's true.
EDIT: I think a lot of people liked the original Civil War too.

Oh fuck no, its still despised to this day and is generally considered the start of Marvels shitspree from the last half decade. Nobody considers Civil War close to good.
Theres a hundred and one reasons, the biggest being mischaracterization, character assassination, and convoluted contrived plot points to justify those two and getting everyone to fight eachother. Like Iron Man turning into a cunty fascist, Reed Richards and the Pro-Reg suddenly turning into nazis and throwing people into super prisons and creating robot Thors that lead to the death of a superhero, Spider-Mans unmasking and subsequent One More Day and One Moment In Time debacle, Penance.
The only reason they did Civil War 2 is to cash in on the movie, which is actually good because it treats the characters with respect, because otherwise theres no reason to do a sequel to an event that hated.
And then they're also doing Clone Saga 3, a sequel to the most universally despised arc in Marvel history outside of Ms. Marvels rape baby being her rape babies baby daddy.
Oh fuck no.
Uh, oops sorry. Shows my lack of comic book knowledge. What did they do in Civil War that fucked it up, because it seems the concept was a good idea?

Concept was good, execution was atrocious in pretty much every respect.
And the fact that Runaways is pretty much thrown under the bus for what we have now and the apparent Runaways movie is in KHIII levels of Development Hell is why I stopped reading Marvel. The one great series that was a change of pace from most stories and now [sp]everyone's either dead, became angsty adults, or rebooted to become dead memes What the hell did they do to Molly, Chase, and Nico?![/sp]
This is just as worse as that one time where they had Captain America do this.

Huh?
What, are you surprised that a woman canonically blessed by a sex goddess is lustin after some puss when she's in a sea of it and there aint no dickles to tickle?
Dudes just sayin what everyone was thinkin. Its like if someone said Joker was gay, well no shit.
I never understand why announcements are made about this kind of thing. Just let it reveal itself through the stories.
I never understand why announcements are made about this kind of thing. Just let it reveal itself through the stories.
Cause Greg Rucka would be a better fit at Marvel than DC.
Dude was such a dick he ran Frank Cho off of the variant covers he was doing. Variant covers.
[editline]1st October 2016[/editline]
All these articles are a little misleading, the intention isnt that she's gay, but bisexual.

can you elaborate on this little pill of insanity you laid on me right now
can you elaborate on this little pill of insanity you laid on me right now
Its exactly as described.
She became suddenly pregnant with her baby and the baby turns out raped her before being born so it could be born.
Avengers #200 was some shit.
She became suddenly pregnant with her baby and the baby turns out raped her before being born so it could be born.
And yet a homage to the Killing Joke is "too much" for comic books.
Forgot my take on this; I honestly think WW is this symbol of sexual experimentation. I kind of figured she'd be bi or something akin if her origins and location are anything to go by.
Its exactly as described.

The fuck? Even by comic standards this is pushing it.

The worst part is at the end of the story she "willingly" goes with her baby daddy rapist rape baby as his fucktoy in their own private dimension for awhile.
This is made even more awkward later when writers kind of noticed how fucked this was and started pointing it out which just made it even worse.
She eventually became a homicidal alcoholic.

For real? Reading this feels like its a scene from an awful snuff film. We ARE talking about Marvel right?
Edit: Holy shit its real. What was Marvel thinking in the 80's?
For real? Reading this feels like its a scene from an awful snuff film. We ARE talking about Marvel right?
You're saying that like Marvel hasnt routinely molested their own characters in awful ways.
Spider-Man making a deal with satan, sacrificing his marriage and potential child for his decrepit aunt for example. Or that time he got molested by his uncle Skip.
I mean shit atleast DC was smart enough to veto the Rape of Wonder Woman script in the 90's, the originally intended third in the Death Of Superman and Knightfall trilogy, because it went too far.

Well, the Spider-Man/Mephisto deal was stupid as all hell but at least you can kind of understand why they did it. They wanted to set him back to being single with his aunt again, which is the opposite of character development, and again, real dumb, but that's the outcome they wanted and while there were obvious, much better ways of reaching it than what they did, that's what they did.
With the Ms. Marvel rapist/baby/lover shit though, it's just, anybody's guess why they thought this would be good. Reading into it now, it was apparently intended as a celebration for the 200th Avengers issue?
I don't understand why they even thought the premise was good.

That was pretty much entirely Joey Quesadilla's doing, the same former Editor in Chief and now CCO of Marvel who said and i quote,
"What the fuck is DC anyway? They'd be better off calling it AOL Comics. At least people know what AOL is. I mean, they have Batman and Superman, and they don't know what to do with them. That's like being a porn star with the biggest dick and you can't get it up. What the fuck?"
Which, coupled with other unnecessary attacks on DC for quite literally no reason, resulted in DC refusing to ever collaborate with Marvel so long as he remains with the company, making Spider-Man single so he could eventually hook him up with his OC based on his daughter.
