Yeah I know. They made that very apparent when it was released with no way to communicate with other people other than emotes and no trading system. It's this weird bastardization between MMO grindfest and story driven FPS game with all the good parts of both taken out (sans the gun-play aspect of Destiny, which was okay) What we're left with is repetitive grindfest FPS. Oh boy, what a title worth of over $100.
And no, reading the out of game website archive of lore bits is not an acceptable substitute for having a story.
Sounds like GTA Online.
Have any of you actually played Destiny?
Even though my comment was moreso towards the act of tying "exclusive" DLC to food/drink/etc purchases rather than any kind of comment about Destiny, no I have not.

This has happened before with numerous video games, and the mission is available by 1/1/16 to everyone. Unless whatever is behind that mission is a super good weapon or something it's not a big deal. If that's the case, then yeah it's bullshit.

Why does my fandom have to be proven by being involved in some shit marketing ploy? I'm not going to drink Red Bull to get access to more of a fucking game, nor am I going to pump $40 into Destiny for extra content when the initial game featured very little.
Played destiny for the first time the other night at a friends. It's like they took everything that made Halo so good and threw it out of the window. Yeah, Halo multiplayer was AMAZING (due to everyone being on the same level), but the real star of the show was the campaign. Can't express how excited me and friends used to be to beat the new Halo on legendary Co-op.
Destiny was just a massive disappointment for me, I'm just glad I didn't buy it myself.

Haven't we been down this rabbit hole with Destiny before, friendo?
I have never understood why companies like Red Bull and Monster, who make ENERGY drinks, are partnered with companies whose sole goals are to engage people in activities which REQUIRE NO ENERGY TO PERFORM. If you think playing video games for an entire day is exhausting, go for a hike. Or go to the gym for an hour and do heavy lifting. Or run. Fuck, jump in place for a minute.

Its due to Energy Drinks supposedly providing the "energy" to game for longer without that pesky need for sleep?

I always seemed to play games better with the aid of caffeine. Also got way angrier.
I picked up a copy and it seems like it could be hella fun, but I know how the grind eats away. My brother-in-law plays it pretty regularly and he backs up the claims I constantly hear that the DLC really fixed what it's initially missing, and with the new (controvercially priced) expansion coming up, I can spend $80 to get the game and both existing DLCs now, plus the upcoming DLC, at an equivalent of $20/each. Pretty fair to me even if it ends up having low replay value, but bullshit for people who've bought all this up-front and have the content already.
I really want to love bungie but they've dug themselves a really weird hole with this whole thing
They spent 500 million on this shit game, of course they're struggling
what
jesus fucking christ.
Destiny must have just been Activision literally throwing $470 million in a pit of fire before realizing they need to actually make that money back and then spending $30 million for Bungie to make Halo: Borderlands Evolved.
Destiny shouldn't be worth $60 if they're going to be adding all this shit-tastic DLC for it. I don't care about how good your game is (or rather, how shitty it looks in this case), I'm not shelling out $100+ for your game and picking up cases of Red Bull.
What's infinitely worse is that people play Destiny and enjoy eating the bullshit served to them, as it seems.
The worst thing is - it must have worked for CoD (bonus XP on Monster cans) because I doubt they'd try it with Destiny if it was a flop.
I spent £11 on it pre-owned for the PS4 and damn, I'm glad I never spent more.

That interview made me squirm reading it. How can someone be so blind to the community's very obvious anger at having to rebuy something they already own - and be so blasé about it?

This figure gets thrown around a lot, but they didn't get 500 million to spend on the current game, they were given 500 million for Destiny content over the next 10 years

then you have to consider that it's activision and wonder what percentage went into advertising campaigns

a pretty decent chunk i would say, i just want to see what they spent on the game as it is

They've fixed this in the weekly update.
bungie always makes the coolest collector's editions

i just wanna buy these and throw the game away
EDITED:
I'd disagree with you there. The base game is okay, but compared to the Halo series, I feel like Bungie just completely forgot what makes a shooter fun. I really think making Destiny a Lite-MMO is the main culprit behind the change because it's just lame. Every time I played Destiny, it felt like I was just wandering around shooting dumb AI bullet sponges that stand out in the open which take clips and clips of ammo to take down. The HUB worlds feel boring, and I prefer the more structured maps from Halo, which really made it feel like you were progressing through the world and seeing new stuff (Not to mention allowing awesome setups like taking down Scarabs armed with ATVs and Rocket Launchers).
Playing through the campaign missions in Destiny was the most dull experience of 2014. I only wish I didn't buy the collector's edition...
You haven't even done a raid? Those are the main events of the game. I'll give you that the main campaign is god awful though.
The Crucible has grown on my lately too.

I cared so little about the game, I couldn't get to them. Then I was thinking, "Well maybe if they DLC is good...", but the first one released was critically panned. At that moment, I knew Destiny was never going to be played again...by me.
My brother vouches that the MP PVP is pretty fun, but I'm not interested in the MP of many games (Halo included) (Should be read as Inspector Jones sucks at MP PVP).
The MP was pretty fun, just terribly balanced.
Fuck Thorn.
