• Is teen romantic fiction bad for boys?

Instead of teaching kids through bad fiction books (like twilight) the ways of life, how about actually teaching them not to be so easily manipulated by the media? Oh, I forgot, that would actually take effort on the parents side.
Twilight is not a good measure of.. well, anything really, except perhaps of how shitty a book you can write and have it become a bestseller.
no, it's not that. it's worse. it (twilight in general) tells young girls that abusive relationships are okay.
also werewolf spirit pedos
Marco patted his belly and leaned back in his chair, content. The entire roasted chicken he'd just consumed sat in his gut, still radiating warmth through his core. He smiled. "Thank you for dinner, Julia. That was great." Julia tore open her blouse and hiked up her skirt, indicating that it was Banging Time. Marco rang the Sex Gong and went to work.
I would read the living shit out of this. [editline]16th January 2014[/editline] Also, I need a sex-gong.
I dont know that many guys who read romantic fiction though...
Well I've heard of one equivalent that was pretty popular among males.
yeah that's a really broad and relatable insecurity good job
I'm a chronic coffee drinker and my yellowing teeth is the biggest source of misery in my life you insensitive prick
Prediction: This thread starts going mod max's way and stretches on page after page until it dies a natural, slow and agonizing, death; or it goes in a direction he doesn't approve of "thread locked. Reason: Crap thread"
Voldemort x Harry fanfiction: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8704528/1/Enveloped-in-the-Darkness This fiction? totally not damaging to peoples emotion..
It's like in Don Jon, where [sp]Scarlett Johansson's character turns out to have an unrealistic expectation of men because of movies the same way Jon has unrealistic expectations of women due to porn[/sp]
Voldemort x Harry fanfiction: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8704528/1/Enveloped-in-the-Darkness This fiction? totally not damaging to peoples emotion..
You kinda did ask for it, what did you expect from a fiction like that?
no, it's not that. it's worse. it (twilight in general) tells young girls that abusive relationships are okay.
Basically this. When a piece of media sucks it is not that big a deal, most things that at people will make will suck for most people. So yeah, I'll never read vampire teen romance. However, why does the vampire teen romance encourage abusive relationships, and why are people more concerned with it sucking than it being potentially harmful? Even worse is fifty shades of grey, which apparently breaks all the rules that healthy kinky relationships established.
Love, passion and romance are often portayed in a very shallow way in pretty much all forms of entertainment. What it takes is somebody to say to the younger audience 'yeah, it's not like that at all, there's way more to that'
yeah shes useless in everyway but she gets the guy she wants
If these books paint "success" for girls as being able to get a boy I'd argue that they're a far worse influence on girls than boys
Wow so "get the girl" is therefore sexist against men? [editline]16th January 2014[/editline]
no, it's not that. it's worse. it (twilight in general) tells young girls that abusive relationships are okay.
Not to mention the whole "I'll kill myself if you won't be with me" [Sp]okay, need to stop making everything hit so close to home[/sp]
The romance in city of bones ruined what would have been a really cool movie
Most dudes have a very different perception of romance than women seem to have. An idealized male romance novel would be too short to publish, because it'd skip all the weird sexual tension and emotional games and go directly from the delicious meaty dinner to the bedroom.
oh man bda its like you understand me marry me bby Also the talk about the sex gong and bang time made me think of this:
I'm cool though, dont need no books for validation. I'm a real sexy boy. I wake up every morning and do powerful kicks and punches into the air as a workout; I like to imagine that my mailman sees me through the open window and says to himself "boy I'm never going to break into that house to steal his seinfeld boxed set." I know Kevin would never do that but i still like to imagine......
Feel free to ignore, probably off topic [Sp]Guys, serious question: Would you consider a relationship that started with and was sustained by "I'll kill/harm myself if you're not there for me/won't be with me"…well, what would you consider it?[/sp]
I can respect this argument 100%, the argument I dont respect is change it for females and not for males and vice versa.
The only argument I can respect is don't change it for anyone. It is a piece of fictional literature, it should not be changed because someone gets affected. Male or female, if you read a fantasy novel and think that is how things are/should be, you're an idiot.
Are these type of novels really good for anyone?
publishers pockets
As a lover of romantic fiction, I often catch myself wondering why I never seem to meet any gorgeous, nice, successful, wealthy, intelligent, funny, sensitive (the list could go on) men in my own life. I can't help but wonder how I would take it if things were reversed - if male protagonists were always shown to fall for beautiful, fun, witty, confident, wealthy, kind girl-gamers, and men began expecting the same in real life. Surely, we'd crush their unrealistic expectations immediately.
I'd reckon that if the roles actually had been reversed like she says, some people would be really angry and probably starting shit.
Male or female, if you read a fantasy novel and think that is how things are/should be, you're an idiot.
Sadly many young adults/kids do on some level accept it as the way life should be. These books are heavily marketed to people who have not fully developed their self identity and their ability to rationally evaluate the messages presented in the book.
How was Bella a self-esteem boost? She was useless at pretty much everything and spent most of the time needing rescue or acting dumb.
Bella Swan is a fucking evil mastermind. The promise of her loose vagina somehow triggers about a dozen conflicts and an all-out war in the span of like four books.
No. No. No. No. Flee. Do not engage. !!EJECT!!
Wow I worded that poorly, I luckily managed to get away from that relationship a while back, I'm just still trying to deal with it. It left me pretty fucked in the head, but to anyone in that sort of situation, take his advice.
(ps it's not targeted at boys you pieces of shit)
(Doesn't work for gaming, why does it work for writing?)
the problem is there is too much crap out there, like hunger games and twilight right now i mean substance wise these books are just crap and conflicting crap too. most of these romance books always show the main character being just bad at everything and everybody else is just as bad, yet things work out somehow. i mean hunger games just makes no sense at all, also i dare you to find a romance author that is a guy, because there aren't many. the only good romances ive read are in books like forgotten realms where it can't be crap because it has to fit in with the universe
Hemingway ?
Hemingway ?
George R R Martin!
