I think it's really ignorant to state that Jesus Christ never existed, despite the numerous physical records of him -- when at the same going on to complain about Christians not using facts.
It's obvious that Jesus existed. The question isn't whether he existed. The question is whether he was a holy man or not. For sure, he was a benevolent man, but the myths surrounding him are so extreme that his intentions are twisted beyond belief.
Awesome I love all those physical records you have of him there in your post, really great detective work there. Totally obvious that he existed, otherwise, he wouldn't be in the bible! amirite or amirite

I don't think Tacitus read the Gospels
Xenu was shining his magnificent light upon the wisemen to guide them to what would one day be their savior so something something something I didn't think this through yet.

Doesn't sound very concrete, but hey I thought this part was pretty interesting
"the earliest surviving manuscript containing the passage is an 11th century Christian scribal copy"
[editline]22nd December 2010[/editline]
Then again even people like Cristopher Hitchens think it's more likely that Jesus was real. Not sure why. His argument went something like since everything about Jesus in the bible is such a gigantic load of shit he HAD to have been real, otherwise there would be less shit and more believable.
What if it was a flare or something?
facepunch atheists lmao
Some of them are pretty bad, but I don't see what's so wrong with the people in this thread...

most of the records of jesus have been proven wrong. its mroe likely that jesus was an older religions figure but then put into christianity or perhaps he was a real guy and the amassing things other guys did was put on to him.

When did being atheist become a bad thing?
Would just saying theist somehow refute and demean the things theists do?

Romans wrote a lot, but most of it not in stone. You can't find manuscripts dating from their own time. Almost every written piece of work we still have was copied by Christian scribes. History is guesswork.

here it shows that like jesus horus was born of a virgin by god who died and was resurrected 3 days later showing that jesus was just based off of this guy and probably never existed.

And Cyrus's early life follows a pattern almost identical to Oedipus's. The latter is a fictional character, the former isn't.

oh so your saying huros was real and jesus was some weird fairy tale?
I could see if there were small differences but dont you think virgin birth, the name son of god and the 3 day resurrection as a little strange. not to mention not just horus but many other religious figures also went throw the same things.

He's a troll from the oify. He posts "facepunch atheists lol" in every religion thread, and has been doing it for a very long time.

Yes, the similarities are uncanny. I also find a Jewish sect worshipping Horus very odd. I don't think such a sect could've emerged without some inspirational leader, who was probably this Jesus guy. If he was crucified, he was thought to be their leader by the Romans.
Lets talk about science instead before this goes to 6 pages and at least 2 people get banned

Apparently the historian community isn't centered around skepticism as much as the scientific because to treat something like Jesus as fact and have pretty much all historians accept it without any solid evidence is pretty ridiculous. I guess that's why the History Channel can get away with showing 100% absolute bullshit every minute it's on air.

christianity took many things from other religions. why not there prophet too?
Its very obvious that jesus wasnt the original guy but was changed throw the game of telephone over time to suit different religions.

most real historians call the parts with jesus in it fake and have so for 100nds of years.
I'm 100% certain that Jesus Christ existed. Again the question is whether he was really the holy man people thought he was (which I doubt) or just a really good person (which I don't doubt)

like I said before, he probably didnt even exist or if he did he did nothing at all he did in the book.

I can't wait to see my hardcore christian classmates faces.
we fucking get it you're cool, you're not average you don't believe it god, holy fuck you're the most hypocritical people I know
you're so ridiculously liberal and complain about crazy ass Christians representing all of religion, religion was basically the reason why math, trigonometry, education lasted through the middle ages, if it wasn't for religion we wouldn't have a bunch of wars, but we might not even be here.
edit: as you can see from the post above
who the fuck cares, why don't you prove to him and be a better person by "turning the other cheek", no that'd be impossible wouldn't it?
religion was basically the reason why math, trigonometry, education lasted through the middle ages,
Yea but wasnt religion whjy the middle ages or "dark ages" started in the first place and the only reason why people who descovered things were apart of the church was because only people arpart of the church could get resources. oh and the killing of any scientist who said anything that didnt agree with the bible didnt help either.
I don't understand why it matters.

Christianity is not all religion. Hell, to even lump all Christians into one group is incredibly short sighted.

I'm not arguing this, just saying.. Only 4 historians mention him existing(Outside of the bible) and none of them mention miracles of any sort, or even the correct name, and one of those 4 isn't even real, it was made up by christians.

Egyptian mythology was popular outside of Egypt, especially in the Roman empire, so It wouldn't be that big a surprise.
However, I think that Christian mythology steals more from Mithraism, but I'm not certain.
Religious debate!, it's on! ding ding round 1.
Come on, can't we save this goddamn thread for later? It's almost Christmas, and you're arguing about fucking Jesus.
