Nope. From the pagan celebration of Oestara (Spring solstice) whose god was symbolised by the hare. Nope. From the middle-European Sinterklass.
Isn't it Western European? Last time I checked it was mostly celebrated in Germany, Belgium and Holland. And I think it might-be Sinterklaas and not Sinterklass.
I've always thought that a lot of Christians don't live up to what Jesus taught. I agree with the pope.
Hey guys I'm catholic that must mean I'm insane :downs:
Yes well if you believe in bible mythology then I would consider you pretty insane.
Fuck off pope i'd rather receive a shitload of meaningless gifts than to spend all day in church god the torture
He has gold coming out of his anus what the hell is he on about? [editline]25th December 2011[/editline] "Guys stop buying useless things"
The pope is the utmost authority on not wasting money on extravagant excess.
Fuck you pope. I work around the clock with shit salary and then you want to take away my only joy on this planet? Fuck you pope. Poop
The Pope Mobile should be a windowless van.
None of you care about some pretentious meaning bollocks. It's just a nice time for everyone to be happy, relax and share gifts. Things evolve. Deal with it.
yeah consumerism sucks we should replace it with religious dogma instead much better...
Well consumerism doesn't fill the collection plate, you see.
I say Atheists get Mars. That way we can have a day once a year for our independence from stupidity. Then i'll shut the hell up. Until then i shal rage and troll. RAGE AND TROLL EVERY 25th of DECEMBER! MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. No but in all seriousness im catholic. :) Just liked to give you all the present of anger.
stop posting please
They are nut-jobs. In an atheist perspective of view, tied with many different anthropological views i have come up with. Anyone who believes the son of the supposed creator of the world was born from a virgin mother in a barn is in every way a nut-job. You'd have to be brain washed or have no concept of human biology and geometric formations to even consider these ideas. Yet most human on this planet are simplistic specimen who see no need to change there lives from "everlasting" (aka. heaven and jesus, creationism, 4000 yr old earth) to "realistic" (ending and nothing, long form evolution). Im a realist who uses science and observation to clearly define my world. I spare no emotions for animals that live in a conceived dream world. It's what i do for a living. So yes, they are nut-jobs. Do i say this to their faces? NO. I have manners... online on a gaming forum which non of them go. YES, because i like to rage. SO live with it.
Oh wow you're an idiot. You not only got the birth of Earth wrong, you got how long the Earth exist wrong, you are wronger than wrong. If you are raised with the idea of God, and everyone around you does, you start believing too, because why are you the one with the different ideas? Maybe you would be wrong then, everyone believes in God so shit, it must be right! Have some damn respect you idiot, and be rightly informed when you go bash something. Also I'm an atheist raised in an atheist family, who was went to an Catholic Elementary School, who likes to read his bible sometimes because I like the stories.

Ah Christmas, everyone's favourite festival of capitalism
stop being superficial *sits in golden chair wearing ornate robes*
Christmas is supposed to be religious, and that's it. You shouldn't be asking why Christmas should be more about religion, because you aren't even celebrating Christmas, just a traditional holiday that you derooted. And there's nothing wrong with that.
Dec 25 is a celebration about the winter solstice in a vast number of other cultures. In addition, its the birthday of horus and several major holidays in pagan religons. Christians decided to move their celebration of jesus's birth to dec 25th in like 500ad to combat other holidays that took place on the same day. Basically, Christians took the horus out of christmas. bastards. [editline]25th December 2011[/editline]
"Oh no, people believe what I don't believe! They're nutjobs! They even have lawn decorations!"
Christianity is some insane bullshit if you didnt notice. Very few Christians actually act christian fortunately. [editline]25th December 2011[/editline]
You're only enforcing the stereotype. You're treating them as second-class people based on their personal choices and opinions on unproven theories, opinions that do not affect you if they don't shove them down your throat. You need to grow up.
Ill protect the right to be religious every day of the week, doesnt meet they arent insane. If you forced people out of their religions they would just have the same religious mindset about something else. Have you read the bible? people actually believe this stuff actually happened. Its fucking hilarious.
If you are raised with the idea of God, and everyone around you does, you start believing too, because why are you the one with the different ideas? Have some damn respect you idiot, and be rightly informed when you go bash something.
Meh, my stance is that you can show respect for the human, but ridicule the belief. If people take such offense to the idea that another idea may be wrong, then thats their problem and they are conflating the two themselves.
Well I can say that as long as it is not too commercialized then I am happy to say buy two or three nice things for you family. But it should not be over two hundred dollars for one person. Christmas is really about being together and having a good time, having some nice holiday cheer and feast. That is what I see in Christmas.
The head of one of the wealthiest and most decadent institutions on earth which is based around a broke hippie who walked around preaching and helping people in need is telling us we're not getting it. Uh huh. Okay.
