Everybody here realizes that the hospital is arguing - in a court- that they simply followed state law, right? [editline]24th January 2013[/editline] This is kind of what lawyers do
The point isn't just that a hospital is arguing that fetuses aren't people by law; it's that it's a Catholic hospital arguing that fetuses aren't people.
They're also arguing against their own long-standing dogma which they have also argued in courts and tried to make law.
But it's not the law. When defending themselves in a lawsuit why would they purposely torpedo themselves?
The point isn't just that a hospital is arguing that fetuses aren't people by law; it's that it's a Catholic hospital arguing that fetuses aren't people.
Yes, hypocrisy. Do you think religious people are incapable of it?
I don't think I've ever seen, nor do I think I ever will in the future, a better example of the concept 'beliefs as long as they're convenient'. You won't abort a fetus because life is sacred but when you cause the death of a 7-month pregnant woman with twins, they suddenly don't count. Wow.
I would love to jump all over this but sadly this one hospital's administration can't be used to represent the entire Church. It's probably not even affiliated with the Vatican. This is just an isolated thing.
According to the law here, a fetus that is older than 3 months IS a person. If there is a law like that there, then the hospital should be fucked
