Steam would have a surge of basically lost revenue as people just go window shopping for what they want their money back for. It sucks but it would be incredibly demanding on their cash.
If I could refund all the games on my library that my computer hardly runs, I could have enough money to actually upgrade it :v:
I wish this was around when I bought Rome II and all of it's DLC full price and the next day it was 75% off.
A neat idea for steam would be to implement a hidden achievement (or marker) to tell Steam when someone finished the game, and perhaps that could enter the decision if they were to offer the refund.
I imagine this could get abused though, and you know valve don't test games at all.
Even with the amount of shit Valve has gotten recently, this is incredible.
This makes it so I'm not afraid of buying triple A games.
while this is nice and all, and i appreciate the gesture of them removing some sort of "risk" if any, i don't really see the point outside of maybe refunding a completely awful game (eg, mcpixel)
making a purchase has to be an informed decision, especially with the cost of games, and the only bonus i see out of this is the aforementioned
i've never had a desire to refund any purchases from steam
i have had a desire to sell my license rights and purchase something else, but in the age of digital subscriptions, that's never gonna happen
Hey, McPixel was a great game.
I submitted another request to get rid of starforge, since they claim they'll at least look at the conditions.
This is extremely unlike Valve. I'm not one of those people trying to paint Valve as being evil but the circlejerkers drown the evidence away, but if there is one thing that was always a negative point with Valve was sales were final.
does this mean i can refund all the games that i hate?
It's a good gesture, but remember, it took them 11 years to add. Don't start sucking their dick again because they added a feature that any half-decent marketplace, online or not, should have over a decade after launch.
I believe the game creators hate(d) this. Not very long ago, 99% of games were made by rather big companies which had the power to withdraw their popular games and severely affect Valve. Only relatively recently indies and start-ups have gotten popular enough to make the big guys pretty much a minority.
This thing is also a massive legal undertaking, because the game creators need to consent (voluntarily or not).
Also, better late than never.
This is still Steam support though.
By the time they look at your request, the two weeks have already passed.
The refund process is automatic.
does this mean i can refund all the games that i hate?
no, only games you've bought in 14 days time
Two hours? Sucks for people trying to sell short narrative games like Gone Home.
Well in that case, it would encourage devs to make their narrative titles not so short or sucky, which would in turn be a win-win for consumer, developer and industry as a whole.
If I could even log into Steam, I'd request a refund for Cliffs of Dover. I've been trying workarounds since I got it during the holidays and to this day I can't get it to even start. 0.0hrs played.
But, like I said, Steam has apparently been down for the past week according to my attempts to log in.
This is still Steam support though.

That wouldn't even make sense. If you request a refund on the 13th day after your purchase you still requested a refund within two weeks. Doesn't matter if it takes them another two weeks to respond to it. Otherwise, what is the point of offering two weeks? This goes for just about anything.
no, only games you've bought in 14 days time
?
that was way more than 14 days?
What if you bought a game 5 minutes before the sale ended, play for about an hour then get a refund? Do you get refunded the price of the game when it was on sale?
No, you get full refund on what you paid of which you can choose to repurchase it at it's cheaper cost.
Which bring me to they should add a price protection garuntee. Saves the hassle of refunding the game and repurchasing it. It would save them a tone of paperwork too.
How does this work on CS:Go smurfs
They smurf 2 competitive matches and return the game? Seems probable.
If it counts as a Valve game we may be fucked.
I noticed that I had 117 minutes played on Planetary Annihilation, got excited since people got refunds on purchases older than 2 weeks only to find out I bought it from the humble bundle store
If only I could...

If only it didn't have the 14 day purchase period. Most of our steam librarys would become empty.
So how do we try to refund a game that doesn't meet the immediate criteria?
So how do we try to refund a game that doesn't meet the immediate criteria?
contact support directly
People love to hate on Valve, but while they certainly aren't perfect, this is a really nice gesture.
It's not a "nice gesture" it's finally complying with fucking EU law.
I still want a refund for spacebase df9 ugh

Wish I could get rid of this, only have 5 hours in it over the fucking long period of early access it had.
Huh, I can even get a refund on a preordered game I gifted to a friend
Now that would be a gigantic dick move
I still want a refund for spacebase df9 ugh
Oh shit
It's not a "nice gesture" it's finally complying with fucking EU law.
Wait, does EU law state you have to give a refund if a sale on the product you bought is done the next day?
tbh I think it'd be better if it was 4 hours
I've spent an upwards of 3 hours trying to fix bullshit optimization in games before
It's not a "nice gesture" it's finally complying with fucking EU law.
US is part of the EU now? They could've excluded the US.
And yes, Steam needed this since day one.
