Modders were being cheated out of money for the profit of Valve and Beth. My opinion may not be, but that is objective fact.
Oh look there you go again, Its was an optional service, that you could choose to use. Apparently this makes you "being cheated out of money" even though before that you where making no money, and you can choose to continue doing so. This is not how you present something objective, The world is round is a fact, and 1+1=2 is a fact. "Modders were being cheated out of money" is an opinion, even if it relies on that somewhere somebody in the world is probably stupid enough to think that 25/75 is a fair share.
What was it, a little over a month ago now that they decided to try and sell fucking mods? Yeah, no. They don't come even fucking close to caring about customer satisfaction over profit.
I still don't like or trust Valve, but refunds are a nice gesture. But only if they actually work, which seems to be the case right now.

Please, tell me how that isn't being cheated out of money. [editline]2nd June 2015[/editline]
I still don't like or trust Valve, but refunds are a nice gesture. But only if they actually work, which seems to be the case right now.
A nice gesture would be refunds for any game you own no matter when you bought it or something. This is covering a basic function of any half-decent marketplace. They don't deserve praise, they deserve to be chided for taking literally over a decade to add something that literally anyone decent has on their store, online or physical.
Here I was hoping people would finally forgive Valve for the paid mods scandal.
It shouldn't be just 2 hours. This fucks over people with shorter and cheaper games, but lets people with more expensive, but stretched out games free. a 5 dollars 3 hour game shouldn't have the same time limit as a 60 dollar 8 hour game.
would be nice if devs could set the time limit themselves
You can't do that, and even if you could that's pretty shitty. It should be based on the price. 8 minutes per dollar the game costs, or something like that.
? that was way more than 14 days?

Requests are considered on a case by case basis and are not typically issued for purchases of released products that are more than 14 days old, or if the purchased product has more than 2 hours of playtime. For in-game items the refund period is 48 hours and the item must not have been consumed, modified, or transferred.
This is the response I got for a request I just put in, for a game that really wasn't what I expected that I purchased a while ago. So it seems they do look into it. [editline]2nd June 2015[/editline]
If only I could...
Try it, what's the worst they can do? [editline]2nd June 2015[/editline]
If only it didn't have the 14 day purchase period. Most of our steam librarys would become empty.
They will asses ones outside of the 14 day window on a case by case basis.
It's not a "nice gesture" it's finally complying with fucking EU law.
No its not, we opt out of that right by ticking the box when we purchase.
No its not, we opt out of that right by ticking the box when we purchase.
Pretty sure you can't opt out of statutory rights by a check box?
How did you do it? It straight up doesn't allow me to put in a request for one I purchased a while back.
I went via help.steampowered.com and just located the game and selected it, selected "it is not what I expected" and pressed "I would like a refund". [editline]2nd June 2015[/editline]
Pretty sure you can't opt out of statutory rights by a check box?
You tick a box saying that you agree to waive your 14 day withdrawal rights, its very common in consumer law for people to be able to waive their rights.
No its not, we opt out of that right by ticking the box when we purchase.
How is that not illegal, though? [editline]Edit:[/editline] Normally I don't comment on ratings, but I really would like to be explained why it's dumb to think waiving away laws protecting you as a customer should be illegal.
So... is it possible to refund something that is outside the 2 week period, but less than 2 hours played? Because I want to get rid of Kenshi. It's a garbage Early Access game that I had the unfortunate luck of getting pulled into.
How is that not illegal, though? [editline]Edit:[/editline] Normally I don't comment on ratings, but I really would like to be explained why it's dumb to think waiving away laws protecting you as a customer should be illegal.
Because its explained on the previous page?
They didn't have to do this, they were already fully compliant with EU law. There's an exception in the online shopping refund law when it comes to digital goods. The seller can ask the buyer to waive the 14 day refund right before purchase if the digital product is delivered immediately after purchase, which is what Steam does. Even after this change there's this clause above the purchase button:
By clicking the button below to proceed you agree that Valve provides you immediate access to digital content as soon as you complete your purchase, without waiting the 14-day withdrawal period. Therefore, you expressly waive your right to withdraw from this purchase.

Does clicking request a refund and the message saying you're not eligible for a refund still send a request to Valve?
So how the hell do I get my 2 year old spacebase refunded, the ticketing system has no option for refunds and is awful to navigate in general.
Is support down or something? I can't sign in and the link in the OP doesn't work [editline]3rd June 2015[/editline]
So... is it possible to refund something that is outside the 2 week period, but less than 2 hours played? I am getting "This purchase is outside of the product return window and can not be refunded." on a game I have only played for 10 minutes.
I am getting "This purchase is outside of the product return window and can not be refunded." on a game I have only played for 10 minutes.
When did you buy it? If it's within the two weeks, it's probably a bug or the system is down. It is launch day after all, I'm sure they're being slammed with requests.

Still waiting for 3 refunds.
If only I could get a refund for Alien Vs. Predator since I never got to start the 2nd mission on Marines. My player character would spawn UNDER the floor of the sewer or whatever it is and would fall into infinity and never die. The game has no noclip or anything so there was no fix for my problem. Reinstalling even on a fresh windows install did nothing to fix it, and I never saw anyone else having the problem online. I guess that's what I get for preordering a game blindly, haven't done it since.

I honestly can't figure out how to make a ticket requesting a refund for a game that I got more than 2 weeks ago. The refund page doesn't work ("This purchase is outside of the product return window and can not be refunded"), the gameplay and technical issues page just leads you in a circle, and basically all the other options just lead me to EA's support, who refused to give me a refund when I first got the game. Is there a way to submit a ticket without going through all these stupid menus first?
How is that not illegal, though? [editline]Edit:[/editline] Normally I don't comment on ratings, but I really would like to be explained why it's dumb to think waiving away laws protecting you as a customer should be illegal.
Its simply because you agree to it, its legal because you have a choice (make or not make the purchase).
So can I just play a game for 1 hour and 50 minutes then just refund it no questions asked?
to be fair I don't think they really knew what they were doing with that one
They sold Aperture tag before that though and not many people complained so they thought BMS would be the same way.
We do not consider it abuse to request a refund on a title that was purchased just before a sale and then immediately rebuying that title for the sale price.
This is the best part

tbh if you're releasing a game that plays for less than 2 hours on average and it costs money you are kinda fucking people out of money to begin with
