So can people just try games and demo them and then get refunds after?
Probably only because people threw enough shit around so Steam PR had to finally do something.

lol at indie game devs seriously, if your game can be beat in 2 hours what are you doing it takes a lot of time to develop video games, seriously try harder also if your game is so bad people want a refund then this is a wake up call telling you that you should not be doing this for income

Portal is only about 3 hours long and it's one of the best games I've ever played.
So can people just try games and demo them and then get refunds after?
From one of their announcments:
We hope this will give you more confidence in trying out titles that you're less certain about.
I wonder if this is a move to show that they're trying to reconnect with us after that paid Mods Disaster?

It's hilarious tbh. If you make a good game then you don't have to worry about refunds period. Even if it's short.

Mind, it shouldn't be too long if the game is shit and you want to review it as such, but 5 mins isn't a very long time.
It's hilarious tbh.
Steam would have a surge of basically lost revenue as people just go window shopping for what they want their money back for. It sucks but it would be incredibly demanding on their cash.
Not so sure that's the case. People who would do "window shopping," would be the people not buying games to begin with. Between not buying games at all, and buying and refunding dozens, net profit would still essentially be zero in both cases. Unless the user finally did settle on a game, in which case Steam would get profit that they never would have gotten from users more willing to risk buying games they normally might not have. Same applies to the 30 second game or whatever, the people who would buy and immediately refund wouldn't have bought it in the first place. Worst case scenario, revenue stays the same. Best case, revenue goes up a bit thanks to riskier purchases being made more frequently, meaning potentially more sales.
I really, really wish I could return StarForge but I bought it like 2 years ago. That thing is a £20 blight on my steam account.
It's hilarious tbh. If you make a good game then you don't have to worry about refunds period. Even if it's short.
Yeah, her last game was good enough that I wouldn't have returned it if it cost money. That said, it was incredibly short; I'm glad it was free and I wouldn't have payed more than a dollar for it.
Awesome time to buy Hatred.
We do not consider it abuse to request a refund on a title that was purchased just before a sale and then immediately rebuying that title for the sale price.
lol, so you can buy a game at 50% off during the summer sale, then either wait for 75% or just keep the 50% one? haha
lol, so you can buy a game at 50% off during the summer sale, then either wait for 75% or just keep the 50% one? haha
If you don't hit the two hour mark I know a lot of people would dive right into a game
I wish I could refund The Stomping Land from my account... I feel ashamed just having it on the list.
I've actually submitted a ticket about this with some hope. I argued that since it was released with the promise of further development, but instead was dropped and isn't even available anymore. I also have the <2 hour requirement.
tbh if you're releasing a game that plays for less than 2 hours on average and it costs money you are kinda fucking people out of money to begin with

Or let the devs specifiy
That won't happen, ever [editline]3rd June 2015[/editline]
tbh if you're releasing a game that plays for less than 2 hours on average and it costs money you are kinda fucking people out of money to begin with

Both games she made are free to play anyways so i don't get why is she complaining
Some people will be dicks and systematically get refunds on extremely short games, yeah. It's an unfortunate side effect, but it really doesn't outweigh the positive side of the refund policy imo. And really, if you feel that Steam's refund policy isn't adapted to your game you are free to sell it through another platform.
Though i kinda agree with her that they should let devs specify the play time Shmups for example could suffer from this since most of them are 30-40 minutes long
Both games she made are free to play anyways so i don't get why is she complaining
I get exactly why she's complaining.
I wish i could refund Watch_Dogs
Changing it to 2 hours or game completed would probably be best for devs without pissing off players. And if the players feel like they didn't get their money's worth, then they write negative reviews I guess.
Imagine if they would have released this update after the upcoming summer sale. :v:
Imagine if they would have released this update after the upcoming summer sale. :v:
Quite sure they released this refund feature just so they can test it way easier thanks to the upcoming sale and the fact people will be buying things more than normally.

If it appears to us that you are abusing refunds, we may stop offering them to you. We do not consider it abuse to request a refund on a title that was purchased just before a sale and then immediately rebuying that title for the sale price.
Looks like they plan to revoke refund rights on a per account basis.
The two hour game thing is a retarded argument anyway, VALVe will be tracking this and I bet if people are abusing it (IE doing loads and loads of refunds) it will send them via the manual route after a while. Plus, no one is going to go through the hassle of buying and refunding a game to play it for free. They will just pirate it. Some of these indie developers need to get over themselves. No one is going to take that effort to play their game for free.
