god damn it
i had to rma my 670(2 weeks of warranty left hae hae) a few weeks ago and asus told me it would take at least 2 weeks before they'd get back to me
so i went insane after a few days and wanted a new card, i didnt think a 980 was worth the money so i bought a gigabyte 970 instead
almost went for evga but i heard things about shitty build quality and didn't want to take the risk :(
if you really want to you can send it back and state that you didn't know it was actually 3.5gb not 4.
From what I've heard aren't some games not compatible with SLI? Sorry for asking out of context here.
Some games aren't compatible, and SLI can cause stutter in games that aren't properly coded for SLI rendering modes, both are issues you'll deal with if you have two cards.
Got an old beast of a GTX 560 ti, it's run overclocked for the better part of 4 years without a hitch and still comfortably maxes or near maxes everything I throw at it (granted, that's at 1650x1050).
I have 560Ti OCed, what do you throw at it? Cause mine can't max out shit even at that resolution any more. More like barely running shit on minimum.

But you can simply turn off SLI. Most modern games can support it i'm sure, so only utilizing one card isn't a big deal
EVGA cards are rock solid.

And my brother still has the EVGA GTX 460 I had before that, 5 years old and going strong.
When I get round to upgrading will definitely be another EVGA card.
To be fair MSI has been beating out EVGA with the 900 series,so far in terms of quality, but I think that has mostly to do with how heavily EVGA tiers their cards.

GTA V most recently.
FXAA On, MSAA 2x, Population Density Max, Population Variety Max, Distance Scaling Max, Texture Quality High, Shader Quality High, Shadow Quality Normal, Water Quality High. Would put textures on very high but that causes stutters because the card only has 1GB VRAM (framerate stays decent but microstutters everywhere). Haven't touched the rest so I suppose it's not that close to maxed out but still looks good.
Ignoring the suggested memory limits but getting 75-80 fps in benchmarks, probably a bit less than that ingame but very smooth.
Normally I just turn everything to max in new games and then dial it back a bit till I'm getting a good framerate, anti-aliasing tends to be the fps killer.
Edit: Been meaning to get The Witcher 3, by all accounts a really demanding game to run so that will be my gauge of whether its time to upgrade lol

Quality is generally uniform, especially as most of the offering in this gen are literally stock with a special cooler. What matters is support and service, and while MSI has vastly improved in non-asian territories, they are still firmly behind evga and gigabyte.

Actually EVGA's VRM's have been a joke on their normal ACX 2.0 980. I guess this is so they can charge more on the FTW, Classy, and Kingpin where they improve them. MSI doesn't even have a 980 Lightning because they stated they don't see the point in making a Lightning version of a non flagship card, so they don't have anything to upsell.
None that I know of. Same number of pins, same signal clock. Maybe harder to have longer cables?
Have u finished NADC yet
The fact you're shitting on EVGA while praising ASUS in terms of build quality clearly demonstrates you don't understand what the term build quality actually means.
Additionally, build quality on 1 gen from OEM is going to be extremely close to reference; what matters is warranty and customer support, of which ASUS is shit and EVGA is the opposite.
where in my post did i praise asus at all? all i said is that i'd heard rumours (these) about evga build quality issues, and since i had 3 choices which were all pretty much identical in terms of performance, i decided not to go with them because i'm not very knowledgeable about hardware beyond pretty benchmark graphs and thus felt more comfortable following the recommendations of others
i'm building a new computer soon, is the 980ti worth purchasing?

i mean considering that people say they can max out shit with a 980, is it worth throwing in the extra bucks?

Depends - what's your screen resolution? A 980 Ti is generally used for 1440p+ or triple 1080p. If you're just running single 1080p, it's overkill.

I honestly didn't see anything in your post that presented hostility toward EVGA. I've owned four of their cards and one kicked the bucket due to (what is probably) personal error. Other than that, really rock solid.

Your answer is probably in gman's post...

My 970 is currently able to handle anything on a single 1080p monitor. I don't think there's a game that proves otherwise. You probably wouldn't even need the 980, although it's nice to have if you can dish the cash into it.
Meanwhile my GTX 650 TI Boost is still chugging along nicely.
Sure, it won't run any crysis level games on max or anything, but it runs dota and all my other games just fine.

Having a single monitor setup probably helps
nVidia recomends $650 sans tax, in my country that would be 718€ with VAT applied. WOULD being the key word because it fucking costs 849€ here and they didn't even lower the price of the regular 980's :v:
Don't be bothered man - you've still got an excellent card that will last you pretty much the same time as a Ti would.
I hope so. I was holding out from upgrading for the longest time, despite really needing one. The only reason I finally gave in was 'cuz my 460 GTX unexpectedly shit itself for good.

Might get my friend to bring me a 980 Ti from the states next time he visits, costs $920 USD here. :suicide:

I thought you were exagerating, but I just checked a few shops and the cheapest I could find were an asus and, MSI cards with the refrence cooler for 849€
[editline]7th June 2015[/editline]
And the cheapest 980 costs 614€

There's like, a £500 gift limit (pre-tax) for customs, and there's no mandatory declaration to fill out. So even if they stop him he's fine.
Is the SC versions ever worth it?
Is the SC versions ever worth it?
If it's the same price as the non SC. Otherwise no.
