I don't think there is any need to shout over the internet regarding this issue. iPhone don't backup to the SIM card (or more importantly to a file, so you can store the data on the microSD card at all times) because they are designed for idiots who have no need of an actual file manager on a mobile phone. [editline]4th September 2013[/editline] It can play MPEG files the last time I checked; the iPhone cannot even play an MPEG file that comes in an attachment.
Google wants SD cards phased out. The SD card argument won't be a thing in a couple of years.
Another huge problem for me was the fact that android versions of apps always had delayed releases compared to their iPhone counterparts. Also, some of the exclusives, like Mailbox, were too hard to pass up on. Developers still target iOS first because even with the growing Android market share, the app profits on iPhone have remained at 75% despite being 25% of devices.
Android has far better app compatibility than iOS. I can install Facebook on a phone that's 3-4 years old, yet I can't install Facebook on an iPod touch that's about the same age.
ok cool but you're still going on about highly unlikely events and the lack of a tiny and mostly outdated feature that practically nobody uses and calling a phone shit because of that like yeah we get it you don't like the iphone but your reasoning for it is stupid and tiring
By the same reasoning making any backup of your contacts and data is a 'redundant' feature; just because it copies data in its most raw form and without some online service behind it (whoever heard of companies discontinuing online services) it doesn't make it outdated. It is data, that can be used as long as it stored and backed up in some form.
Google wants SD cards phased out. The SD card argument won't be a thing in a couple of years.
i'll take a cheaper and thinner device over an sd card slot any day. if i want to carry large files around i have an external HDD and a flash drive also by the way android doesn't have a default file manager :~)
Google wants SD cards phased out. The SD card argument won't be a thing in a couple of years.
Where do you base that from? From everything I've seen the cards are becoming better nowadays. I'm sure they'll be replaced by better solid state memory at some point. But having an actual file manager is still a key advantage of Android over iPhone; and it relates to more than just the microSD card (i.e. mount a USB drive/external drive and copy files over to it).
here are some things usually used to insult apple that are missing on a nexus 4 (aka the good android device) is missing file manager (yep) office/pdf viewer 4g sd card external battery yes you may get some of them from the market but just in this thread we had somebody say that android is fine out of the box
you can still back it up manually though, just not onto the sim
How can you back it up manually without using a computer and without relying on a 3rd party application?

Google says its too confusing for users B. Google wants to cater to more security professionals, so an SD card is a 100% no-go.

Admittedly, a file manager/PDF viewer is missing from stock android.
here's ios for example
i'll take a cheaper and thinner device over an sd card slot any day. if i want to carry large files around i have an external HDD and a flash drive also by the way android doesn't have a default file manager :~)
I think for things like photos and videos it is always nice to have the microSD (not necessarily to have it so you can swap them out, just so that its seperate). Phone memory isn't at a point right now where it can do that. Well you can always view the downloads folder by using the google apps store (Apps > Downloads) from my understanding.

Nice work.

[editline]3rd September 2013[/editline]
I think for things like photos and videos it is always nice to have the microSD (not necessarily to have it so you can swap them out, just so that its seperate).
you have never had a compatability issue on android? how?
No idea, maybe because android's apps work on far more versions than iOS's apps.
Where do you base that from? From everything I've seen the cards are becoming better nowadays. I'm sure they'll be replaced by better solid state memory at some point. I switched from an Android phone to iPhone and I haven't missed having a file manager at all. It's just a different system, with Apple focusing more on a cleaner, compartmentalised system.
Three popular apps. I remember a time when all three used to run like butter on this device. (iPod Touch 2G MC model)
Mac OS X is the same shit too; if you have a computer and haven't updated to the latest OS the most basic software will not work (I imagine its part developer fault and part Apple's fault, but its still stupid)
Android has far better app compatibility than iOS. I can install Facebook on a phone that's 3-4 years old, yet I can't install Facebook on an iPod touch that's about the same age.
This is mostly just because Android is so fragmented, it's very annoying that you have to target ancient android versions when developing an app if you actually want a lot of people to be able to use it. Meanwhile on iOS over 90% of the userbase are on the newest version. This isn't really a fault of Android though, it's shitty vendors not releasing updates.
And yet most of these apps run up to the standard they do on my iPhone 4, which is running the latest version of iOS. Nice work.
not really they doooon't if everything was fucking rewritten to run on proper android sdks, we'd have less shitty apps seriously half of android apps look like shit
Apple runs on product cycles and less on the previous device, it's nothing fucking new guys
Mac OS X is the same shit too; if you have a computer and haven't updated to the latest OS the most basic software will not work (I imagine its part developer fault and part Apple's fault, but its still stupid)
almost entirely the developers fault. it's not like microsoft doesn't do that with DirectX, lol. look at BF3
And yet most of these apps run up to the standard they do on my iPhone 4, which is running the latest version of iOS. Nice work.
Well does the latest version of FB run on Eclair/Froyo? No. And that's what it's like comparing it to iOS. Devs won't make apps using the older APIs because all of the new API calls and features that apple has added. Android devs are forced to support users still on OSes like Froyo.
Three popular apps.
almost entirely the developers fault. it's not like microsoft doesn't do that with DirectX, lol. look at BF3
I've used Mac since like Mac OS 6 I think, and its always been the same; the updates are always ridiculous. So maybe its just something the developers have become accustomed to.
Mac OS X is the same shit too; if you have a computer and haven't updated to the latest OS the most basic software will not work (I imagine its part developer fault and part Apple's fault, but its still stupid)
Updates are only 30$ though, its really not too much of a hassle with the sort of new features you get. Stuff like Airplay and Airdrop are extremely cool and useful.
for iphone devs it's fucking EASIER to write ios 6 apps instead of supporting old shit because of iphone sdk and objective-c changes hell i'm trying to be a developer and i would sacrifice old versions of an os if it means that i'll have a better app that's easier to maintain
yes let's blame developers for using new sdks to make better apps obviously they should support devices used by 1% of iphone users
Apple have the choice to allow software upgrades for older devices. I'm pretty sure iOS 5 could run on the iPT2G with acceptable performance. (not the iPhone 3G, that has much worse specs than the iPod Touch).
