I've used Mac since like Mac OS 6 I think, and its always been the same; the updates are always ridiculous. So maybe its just something the developers have become accustomed to.
yeah it's the same shit man
Mac OS X is the same shit too; if you have a computer and haven't updated to the latest OS the most basic software will not work (I imagine its part developer fault and part Apple's fault, but its still stupid)
Yeah, maybe if you're incapable of not using the Mac App Store, just download stuff from websites. OS X isn't as rigid as it sounds. And iTunes supported PowerPC machines for a while after the Intel Switch.
Updates are only 30$ though, its really not too much of a hassle with the sort of new features you get. Stuff like Airplay and Airdrop are extremely cool and useful.
Wow airdrop. Only works on macs.
I can just plug my android into any computer (Mac/PC/Linux) without installing iTunes or having to use some fancy OS feature.
I mean its still nice that its wireless, but its ridiculous the iPhone can't be mounted in an easier manner.
Apple have the choice to allow software upgrades for older devices. I'm pretty sure iOS 5 could run on the iPT2G with acceptable performance. (not the iPhone 3G, that has much worse specs than the iPod Touch).
it just has a slightly faster cpu
plus iphone 3g fucking crawls on ios 4
ITT: Technology sucks

I didn't say it was the same shit; its just that the updates are done in a really stupid manner in my opinion, adding to that the changeover from IBM to Intel.
I think Apple brings a lot of the shit onto itself by having so many proprietary technologies though. It just makes upgrade paths unnecessarily complicated in a lot of cases (probably to a lesser extent nowadays, but before it was pretty ridiculous).

I can see the reason Apple disabled wallpapers and multitasking on the 2G, but I see no reason why it was dropped at 4.2.1 and not 5.1.1.

There are other programs you can use to sync your iPhone. WinAMP even let's you put files on the thing. Of course, you still have to have itunes installed that initial time. Even then iTunes really isn't that bad, other then it's bloat if you just renable the sidebar. And I don't have to deal with it that much, after the initial putting music on.

I remember when I couldn't get iTunes to install and then actually run on 3 completely separate installations of Windows XP.
No error. No dialog. It'd just sit in task manager doing nothing.
Good times.
Nowadays if someone needs me to install iTunes to help with their phone I pretty much just write off my windows installation and format it pretty soon afterwards.

Airdrop is the wireless P2P protocol between computers (and will be on iPhones in iOS 7). If I'm sitting in a car beside someone I can send them files without fiddling with cables, or USB drives.

Have you actually read their history?
And things may be looking up from their recent times, but we'll see how they do with this upcoming announcement, and whether they can actually bring something new or interesting to the table.

Well at least there's something we can agree upon. iTunes is the worst piece of shit software that I've ever had on my computer.

You mean PowerPC to intel? It wasn't done that terribly. For the first Intel Machines there was a version of Tiger that ran on intel, and a seperate PowerPC version. Then Leopard was released, and the same discs work on bother PowerPC and Intel. Meaning, they wanted to make it easy so you could go out and buy an intel mac when you're good and ready, and your files and everything else will work. Then Snow Leopard stopped support, but you could emulate PowerPC programs, as a message to devleopers saying "Fix your crap guys, PPC is being phased out"

considering that even microsoft moved to apple's system (which is actually pretty good)...
do you really think that apple should instead do shit like microsoft which is still supporting a 12 year old os?
apple is trying to make a complete ecosystem which is all apple
their answer to you is "don't buy apple"
because it was fucking SLOW

Exactly. Multitasking and homescreen wallpapers slow the device down, all the other features do not (e.g. the reflective dock and folders)

yeah
the one time they licensed mac os to third parties, they ended up 3 weeks away from bankruptcy
lovely story isn't it?
Shouldn't you be concentrating on driving?
Its still stupid though; it just tries to gloss over the idea of file/data management with "sync".
"sync" this
"sync" that
But when you want shit you have put on your phone out the other end in the way you want it, you're screwed without a third party solution (granted an Android cannot transfer formats and shit by default, but having it be USB mass storage lets it actually be used by a computer to that effect)
It also always particularly annoyed me having to rely on iTunes for music copying ever since I had a early model of an iPod, it was just such a bad way to do it as soon as someone didn't like iTunes.
Shouldn't you be concentrating on driving?
I'm not driving when I do this. That should be pretty obvious.

[sp][Apple] leave me alone its been a long day :c[/sp] Microsoft have done well by supporting XP for 12 years. It's much harder to upgrade a windows ecosystem in a business environment, especially when some software doesn't support it. I've seen cashpoints running windows 2000.

Not if someone else is driving and you're bored on a road trip, getting your brother to send over his movie really is pretty nifty.
I'm not driving when I do this. That should be pretty obvious.
You used a poor example then. Either way, Airdrop is just the substitute for what bluetooth can already do in modern phones (and what it could do in pre-smartphone devices).

well apple isn't the same enterprise player microsoft is
the least bullshit you have to support, the better your ecosystem is
better apps, faster os, etc.

I don't see how Microsoft has moved to Apple's system...
Apple sells hardware. Microsoft doesn't.
I am free to move to another operating system (obviously Apple would never let their precious OS run on non-Apple hardware though) whenever I want to. I actually own my hardware.
