There are no zings here. Instead of trying for them, perhaps you should actually contribute.
Impeccable reasoning. I'm sure Rockstar's financial team said the exact same thing: they wouldn't have bought cards anyway!
Yeah, no, that's not how finance works.
Hey man how about you actually back that cliche "that's not how X works" response with some actual reasoning. You know, the thing you criticized but you yourself didn't bother with in your post?
You're essentially advocating the "if it wasn't for The Pirate Bay, all the pirates would have bought the thing instead of pirating it" bubble which is for the most part just used as statistical leverage in lobbyism without much truth behind it
There are no zings here. Instead of trying for them, perhaps you should actually contribute.
How about you stop trying? You are the only edgy twat supporting them either for the sake of trolling or being a ~special snowflake~.

I've never said that. In fact, I clearly stated it was potential profit, and I gave it a nominal number, being in the thousands of dollars, considering there's likely to be even more lost profit.
By driving players away from Rockstar's multiplayer service (that relies on people buying shark cards), Rockstar is losing potential profit that is in the thousands of dollars because many players will abandon their service.

If they made a better game, they wouldn't have to worry about "fiveM" because people would actually be enjoying themselves instead of looking for alternatives.

No, I just actually took an economics class in high school and understand what a ToS/ToU is for.
sorry, what part of the ToS were they breaking, exactly?
When you install the game / sign up to the R* Social Club you agree to a set of terms...
Terms that in essence are a damage control measure allowing them to technically be free of blame when acting like total anti-consumer dicks. The fact that they're using such scummy practices alone is reason enough to be dissatisfied with them.
They're essentially a non negotiable permit saying "if we dont like what you do we can be total dicks, ok?", and that's bullshit all on it's own. The thing is that it's commonplace to have the TOS just in case, without actually ever acting on it for the sake of the consumer. So Rockstar technically doesn't have any blame, but in comparison with their peers, or just in the eye of decency towards the consumer, they're dickheads. Nobody is suing Rockstar here, it's an outrage because they're acting like, colloquially speaking, total shitheads.
sorry, what part of the ToS were they breaking, exactly?
The one you see every time you load the game up.
Yeah poor rockstar, now how will they afford their 150M advertising budget.
Haha c'mon dude, you're just being silly.
"potantial profit" is a bullshit term too. Potentially I could make billions today if I won the lottery.
Thankfully, what you think is bullshit is irrelevant.

Thankfully, what you think is bullshit is irrelevant.
And thankfully the things you say don't start being correct just because you act like you must be right. You're full of shit on this, and what they did is explicitly bullshit, especially since they lied about how FiveM function, and banned people who didn't actually break the ToS.

It's not really just what he thinks though. The meaning of "potential profits" is that they might as well - and are probable to be - total bullshit, a.k.a. nonexistent.

They've specifically said they won't target modders staying out of Online though. So they're not standing by their words.

reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, display, perform, prepare derivative works based on, or otherwise modify the Software, in whole or in part;

Sounds pretty clear to me.
I mean I disagree with what Rockstar are doing here, but they are not 100% in the wrong.
FiveM is online
An alternate online, but still online
[editline]11th August 2015[/editline]
My only surprise to this is how long it took for this to happen.

Yeah, but it's not their Online, and doesn't directly interfere with it. It's not a script that's injected into GTA Online, it's an entirely separate, unrelated entity. As far as the vanilla game is concerned, it's a sp thing.

It's something worse than hackers because it's better, alternate online that directly competes with their product. And being the creators, they have the rights to punish players for it.

Well, they aren't, and I don't know what else you want me to say on the matter.
They've specifically said they won't target modders staying out of Online though. So they're not standing by their words.
They can react however they want to each and every mod, regardless of whether or not you people think it's bullshit. I think it's bullshit that my coworker can suck my boss' dick and get promoted. You wanna know what my options are? Quit, try to reason with my boss, or put up with it.
Nobody here is doing any of those things. I think one guy in this thread said he was gonna try to refund the game. Good on him for doing that. The rest of you are just running around spouting "BULLSHIT" to everything as if anybody actually cares. You have your three options.
Quit, try to reason with Rockstar (instead of mindlessly posting about how everything is bullshit), or put up with it.
If you are breaking their terms of use/service and costing them thousands of dollars, yes.
They can't, actually. It's illegal to restrict access to a purchased product like that in the United States and the European Union without offering a total refund, so they can get fucked. I hope they lose millions if they keep this shit up.

People are understandably reacting to hearing this news, get off your high horse
Consumer backlash and negative PR can be just as influential as "trying to reason with Rockstar" or quitting

Rockstar never listens to anyone though. They got their money, and they're going to run with it.

It's nothing at all like that and you'd get laughed at for trying to do that.

They didn't break the TOS, get over it, and stop trying to defend Rockstar's reasoning for banning them
Rockstar never listens to anyone though. They got their money, and they're going to run with it.
I don't disagree but the best thing a consumer can do is voice their anger, spread the word, and change their spending habits in the future, threads like these are a part of the equation

Of course it can, but it creates dissonance between the consumer and the company. Rockstar was never in the wrong by banning them.
They didn't break the TOS, get over it, and stop trying to defend Rockstar's reasoning for banning them
Uhh, yeah, they did. They reverse engineered the game, which the terms strictly prohibit. Try again.

It's sad and all that they banned people related to FiveM project, but lets be real here, most of us will buy VI and possibly on more than 1 platform too.
I guarantee you guys will still buy GTA VI. Rockstar's hype machine has you by the balls.
Pretty much a given, gamers can't protest fucking anything without going back on it at some point. The number of "boycotts" that have been and gone where most of the loudest mouths ended up buying the fucking game anyway is silly.
I guarantee you guys will still buy GTA VI. Rockstar's hype machine has you by the balls.
Jokes on you. I didn't even buy this one, because I made sure to be skeptical, and stayed out.
Will hauserposting replace toddposting as the new "ironic shill" meme?

Loudest mouths are usually also the biggest fans of said series. A hardcore fan can't deny himself the game over some silly boycott.
Rockstar never listens to anyone though. They got their money, and they're going to run with it.
Run with it by making more games that everyone on here will buy anyway even if they say they won't.
I guarantee you guys will still buy GTA VI. Rockstar's hype machine has you by the balls.
what hype machine? I don't own a console, so by the time it would get to me, all that hype would have already died. only reason I got it was because I had money to waste. (was like a month after release) so no, thats not true at all. unless they make some bigass apology and put out some great product, I won't be getting it, simple as that.
