Exactly, thats why I said people are taking religion too seriously , a lot of it might actually have some sort of truth to it, we just don't know for sure. Its silly now-a-days that someone would actually think that some powerful punish you direly if you do yadda-yadda-yadda. Which is dangerous because of how this can be manipulated by others, hence the crusades and the ignorance we see alot of today. It's essentially propaganda.
To be honest thinking that a woman was made out of a dudes rib, really doesn't seem to have a shred of proof or a whiff of truth behind it.
Neither does Jesus, sure there could have been some self proclaimed prophet called jesus who attacked folk selling shit at a church but that's it.
I would think that someone that is in as poor health as Mr. Hawking seems to be, he would be trying to prove the existence of God rather than denying it. We are all sinners and fall short of Gods glory. Yet God in his infinite mercy and love for us sent his son to atone for our sins. The punishment for sin is death. Jesus went to the cross willingly because he loved us. If because of my faith in God, the father, Jesus, my Lord and Saviour and the Holy Spirit causes anyone to see me as weak, thats ok because when I am weak he is strong. News flash we are all weak. As for the big bang theory - God spoke and bang there it was! Any other explaination of the big bang theory is about as believeable as if an accident in a junk yard could produce a boeing 747.
Scientific method works both ways. It thoroughly denounces evolution which, though it has plenty of evidence, cannot be proven. According to Bacon, anything that can not be undeniably proven is false, and evolution is heavily debated on.
We know that evolution happens. We've seen it happen exactly as predicted in microbes and in a few larger species (and that's in only a few decades). The only thing worth debating is mutations we haven't directly observed, but because we know what leads to life evolving, we can determine that we're right in our analysis even though we never directly saw it happen.
It's not very complicated.

I'm laughing just because of how stupid people really are. It's a laugh of amusement and sadness.

Given a long enough time scale and this will happen, and that is the beauty of it.
:science:
And to the dude who said this:
Science is indeed the truth in ways, but remember that a lot of it is theory after all and cannot explain everything as far as we currently know without making extreme guesses.
I was going to say it's actually possible, but I thought why bother..
Religion is fool proof, no matter what you say to any religion they can come back with some shit about how it was "God's will". Sorry to any religious people but you are wasting your life in hopes of a good afterlife, whereas you could just enjoy this life to the full in case there isn't an afterlife, think about it before saying something stupid like "God has told me there is an afterlife", yeah, well my made up 'God' has said that your 'God' isn't real, and you can't prove me wrong because my 'God' is just as believable as yours. I can create an imaginary friend as well and use empty points as so-called "proof".
Who created God then, mother fuckers?

"Nobody, God has been here since before time began, which is a completely realistic and plausible argument." :smug:

Why does the universe and reality exist?
Kind of odd how similar the questions are...
What is funny is that religious leaders somehow think they are even remotely on the same level as hawking.
Nobody really know's how the universe was created because we didn't really witness what has happen... So people come up with godly entities and scientific Theories to cover it up till we find more evidence of how the universe was made. Even today and our technology, I doubt we can ever found out until the day we successfully colonized planets and extent our reach into learning more of the galaxies.

Maybe we'll never know why we exsist, might be better that way perhaps. But then again we do get some pretty wild stories from it though...
...Until people take it to seriously... AGAIN

And for what reason? Because I said that science isn't always complete truth? I admit I put some bit too much emphasis on that but to wish pain because of that? You aren't doing yourself any favors.

Should've been a perma imo.
I've always wonder that. Here you all these people who are atheist and have a better life than some Christians who doesn't. They prey all day, everyday for a better life. I mean all the homeless people in my city says stuff about God (although, it may be a scam to get money). They walk by asking for money and when they don't get it, they say "oh, well, God Bless you, sir/mam( or mama?)." So then, you fell guilty and and you "forget" you had 50 cents in your pocket. I know a lot of Christians who aren't well off. I've never understood Christianity. People always said stuff like "God doesn't want his children to be poor."
Also, I don't think Jesus actually walked on water. The water could have been so dirty that you couldn't see the bottom even if it was only 5 inches deep.
They prey all day, everyday for a better life.
*whispery voice*
Here we see the Christian, slowly stalking its prey, known as a "better life"
BAM! And it got it!
(The Mormons will have to wait their turn)

Maybe he just walked on a puddle. It doesn't specify how deep the water was.

Man, to either gain power over others, or to comfort himself with his imagination. This planet has seen both happen.
I am honestly sick of all the religious debates in ITN. I feel both sides are wrong. One, the religious side, governs completely on faith with no actual proof to back it up. The other side, Atheists, etc, argue that God does not exist since the religious leaders have no proof.
However the Atheists have no proof that he doesn't exist.
Neither side has any evidence to back up their claims, both are wrong.
That is why I am agnostic.
[sp] Also there is always the stuck up atheist at school. [/sp]
No, religion is about mind control and scamming suckers, dumb priest. But I guess he already knows that.
There's a big fucking difference between reasonable disagreement with organized religion and completely ignorant assumptions. You'd do well to learn it.

How many times must it be said? We don't need proof that he doesn't exist. The burden of proof lies on the one who makes the claim. I could make up any bullshit and then scream in your face "YOU CAN'T PROVE IT DOESN'T EXIST SO THERE ASSHOLE"
No, it doesn't work that way. Proof or stfu.
Hawking is indeed the most intelligent man of our time. However, he does tend to turn away from science and go more into the realm of theory and thought. Many of his works, according to scientific standards, are complete nonsense, because they are speculative theories as to how the universe exists and acts. Still, an extremely intelligent man.
I do agree with these religious leaders. I'm theistic evolutionist, and I think, though it's ridiculous to say a diety of some sort made us, it's infinitely more ridiculous to say the universe acted with personality or thought and "created itself", or that it all happened at chance just "because it could".
