Fixed.
Nah man, too opinionated. More accurate version of mine:
Agnostics are silly. Atheists believes there is nothing, unless it can be proved by evidence or logic. Theists believe in whatever they want, no matter if it's contradicting itself. Agnostics are not sure which idea makes more sense.
You know, these religious arguments really annoy me. You've got butthurt Atheists who can't stand people having free thought, you've got butthurt Theists who think they're the best and Atheists suck. Why can't we just acknowledge each others' beliefs and get along? Atheist vs. Theist conflicts are what spark violence amd strife. You've got two groups of people too bigoted to accept one another, and thus shit hits the fan. To Theists: God says to love another, so why not just let the Atheists be and have their rights instead of constantly hounding them like jackasses? To Atheists: If we're wrong, we're wrong. Why not just let us do what we want to without trying to interfere in our rights like jackasses?
You cant create something out of nothing. Except god. I had a christian lecture me in the street and i put that point to her. She couldn't come up with a decent enough argument as to how god came into being, except that he had always been there. which doesn't really answer the question as Christians say that the universe had to be created because it everything has to be created. But what about god?
Much better. And I just preordered the book from Amazon! It's only $15! http://www.amazon.com/Grand-Design-Stephen-Hawking/dp/0553805371
Fffffff I ordered mine from bookdepository. http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/book/9780593058299/The-Grand-Design 7 bucks more :saddowns:
Why can't we just acknowledge each others' beliefs and get along?
I do think 1.5 billion people are told to believe against that. Take a guess :v:
God can do anything. Include suck.
It's out of stock on that website lol I don't know why they trimmed it down 46% on Amazon though..
That can't be right - it's only preorder for now, there isn't even stock to run out of.
What is wrong with you? Why not be open and accept what people believe instead of arguing against it?
When someone is obviously wrong, you don't want to respect their opinion, you want to tell them what's wrong about it.
When someone is obviously wrong, you don't want to respect their opinion, you want to tell them what's wrong about it.
This guy has a point, there's respecting belief and then there's allowing people to be wrong and then defending it because it's what they believe, it's detrimental to the species.

Simple.
When someone is obviously wrong, you don't want to respect their opinion, you want to tell them what's wrong about it.
So thats just great... Someone saying its "obvious" that there is no existance of God. And another saying it is detrimental to the species to have thoughts beyond what we see. Great ignorance right there.
If you don't want your beliefs and erroneous scientific knowledge poked at, don't enter debates. Simple.
Religion has nothing to do with science. We just believe the creation of this universe was started by someone or something with intelligence. Your theory is no less idiotic. "Gravity is intelligent and decided to make the universe." What? [editline]01:37PM[/editline]
So thats just great... Someone saying its "obvious" that there is no existance of God. And another saying it is detrimental to the species to have thoughts beyond what we see. Great ignorance right there.
Both sides are ignorant, like I said. Religists base their beliefs off books, Atheists insist there is absolutely no possible way for there to be life beyond what they see. Both sides don't know their beliefs for sure. We don't know if there is a God or not, and debating about just leads to flaming.
Both sides are ignorant, like I said. Religists base their beliefs off books, Atheists insist there is absolutely no possible way for there to be life beyond what they see.
I believe in the idea that there can exist life beyond what we can see, if there is evidence and logical conclusions to support it. I believe in the existence of bacteria, and I find it very plausible that there may be life on other planets. There is however no evidence of a god, and logic suggests that there is none. There is no proof of his existence, and there is no proof that god has any at all effect on our lives. There is no proof that he exists, there is no proof that he doesn't exist. God is nothing, and should be treated as nothing, until god can be proven to be something other than nothing at all.
Both sides don't know their beliefs for sure. We don't know if there is a God or not, and debating about just leads to flaming.
I could say that I own a 6 legged unicorn and you would not be able to prove me wrong, but you would have to be pretty damn stupid to actually believe my claim of owning a 6 legged unicorn.
Religists base their beliefs off books
No. Not All.
Someone saying its "obvious" that there is no existance of God.
It is as close to being obvious as it could possibly get. It is dumb to believe in something that can't be proved, and something that can't be supported by evidence. To believe in god is to rely on a hypothesis rather a theory. It is ignorant, and not something to be respected more than people who believe in Santa Clause at age 40.
"If we look at the Universe and all that has been created, it indicates that somebody has been here to bring it into existence. That somebody is the almighty conqueror." I do wish he would elaborate on this, I'm intrigued on what he can come up with, did the almighty conqueror leave a note? "A creator God provides a reasonable and credible explanation of why there is a universe, and ... it is somewhat more likely that there is a God than that there is not." Huh?
Some of the arguments in this thread are hilarious. Keep it up, guys. It entertains me.
Both sides are ignorant, like I said.
To believe in god is to rely on a hypothesis rather a theory.
Different people believe in what they want to believe. Who are you to say it's right or wrong?
How do they explain Genesis then?
Doesn't that explain the Earth rather than the universe?
I really hate all of you.
Then you can leave. It isn't like anyone will care.
edgy
Different people believe in what they want to believe. Who are you to say it's right or wrong?
I am a person of greater intellect than those people then obviously. If you have the choice between believing in one thing backed up by evidence, or one thing not backed up by evidence... You are fucking stupid if you choose to believe in the one not backed up by evidence. If you have the choice of believing in something you don't know exists, and nobody else knows exists, and there is absolutely no indication that it does exist, and there is no way to prove that it does exist, then you are stupid if you still believe it exists.
Why can't we just acknowledge each others' beliefs and get along?
Because 6,000,000+ people were tortured and died horribly in WW2 because of religion. Because the Dark Ages were because religion had total control on society. Because almost every war of the medieval period was because of religion. Because of the crusades, where people raped, pillaged, tortured, and killed in the name of religion. Because we're in Iraq because some people think that their religion calls for them to kill us. 4/5 of those are because of Christianity. So that's not even including the other major beliefs of the last thousand years, and completely excludes the polytheistic beliefs from 2000+ years ago. :colbert:

Religion is an excuse to do stupid shit. Durr, god said it's awkay.
I know a scientist who is religious. /thread /discussion /fuckoff
Bah, so simply because one of your little friends has a good job and a skewed perception of reality, it means I should respect all other people with skewed perceptions of reality? Fuck no, I still think it's bloody retarded and that this person does not deserve to call himself a scientist if he can't even apply scientific methods to his system of belief. That scientist is a hypocrite and a fool, he's an embarrassment.
I never understood religious scientists either. How can your job be applying logic, reason, and based on evidence, yet believe in a God for which there is no evidence of?

Think about what you are saying, you are basically denoting that it is wrong to think about things that do not affect the real world. The things that do affect the real world are religious discrimination and extremism. But that isn't your point. Stephen Hawking didnt say what he did out of spite, he did it for his understanding of physics laws. Religion is not systematic like you think it is, it is percieved differently by everyone.
